We Are Animals Big Idea: Children will pretend to be different animals by acting out different animals movements and sounds. What You Need: No supplies needed What You Do: Before the Activity: Have the children stand in front of you. During the Activity: Call out animals one at a time in the following order: dog, cat, cow, chicken, lion, dog and cat. Each time you call out an animal, encourage the children to pretend to be that animal in movement and in sound. After the Activity: Review today’s Bible lesson. What You Say: Before the Activity: “Let’s be animals!” During the Activity: “When I call out an animal, I want you to pretend to be that animal. You can move like that animal and make sounds like that animal. Are you ready? (Pause.) DOG. (Pause.) Great job being dogs! CAT. (Pause.) Awesome! LION! (Pause.) Wow! Scary lions! Let’s be DOGS again!” (Continue the activity.) After the Activity: “That was so much fun! My favorite animal to pretend to be is a lion. They are really cool! Our Bible lesson today was about lions. Do you remember what happened? (Pause) Daniel loved God very much. He prayed to God three times every day! There was a king named King Darius, and he made a rule that people could only pray to him and not God. Daniel loved God and knew that God would protect him. He kept praying to God. The king was not happy that Daniel broke the rule and he threw him into the lion’s den! The king was worried for Daniel, but Daniel knew that God would protect him. And do you remember what happened? (Pause.) Yes, God sent angels to close the lions’ mouths and Daniel was safe! We don’t have to worry. God’s got it! God protected Daniel! God protected Daniel and He protects us too! We can always count on Him when we need Him. God’s got it! Who’s got it? God’s got it!”

Zoo Big Idea: Children will identify and separate animals into two baskets based on whether they are typically found at the zoo or on a farm. What You Need: Around 20 stuffed animals (try to include one lion in each classroom), and two baskets. What You Do: Allow the children to free play with the animals and the baskets. Then have the children help you separate the animals into two baskets, one with zoo animals and one with farm animals. What You Say: Before the activity: Wow! Look at all of the animals! It looks like a zoo in here! We can use these baskets to separate the farm animals from the animals we see at the zoo. Can you help me? (Pause.) Great let’s begin.” At the end of the activity: I have such wonderful zookeepers and farmers in here! I saw some of you playing with the lion. There were lions in our Bible lesson today, do you remember what happened? (Pause) Daniel loved God very much. He prayed to God three times every day! There was a king named King Darius, and he made a rule that people could only pray to him and not God. Daniel loved God and knew that God would protect him. He kept praying to God. Lion’s Paw Big Idea: Children will run around the bases while practicing their memory verse. What You Need: “Paw” from the Activity Pages on brown or yellow cardstock, attached to the baseball bases.

What You Do: Before the activity: Arrange the bases in a diamond shape in the center of the room. Have the children run around the bases while saying part of their memory verse as they touch each base.

1st base: “He is the great God” 2nd base “the mighty” 3rd base: “and awesome God.” Home Plate: “Deuteronomy 10:17”

What You Say: Before the activity: “Look at these paw prints! What animal do you think these belong to? (Pause.) A lion! You are right! There were lions in our Bible lesson today, remember? (Pause.) Daniel got thrown into the cave where the lions lived. But Daniel knew that God was always with him, so he was okay. Let’s say our Memory Verse together as we run from paw print to paw print. Ready? (Pause.) Here we go!” During the activity: “‘He is the great God (base 1) the mighty (base 2) and awesome God (base 3) Deuteronomy 10:17 (Home Plate),’ Super! Let’s keep going!” (Repeat as many times as desired.) After the Activity: “Great job, friends! I love this verse, because it reminds us that God is a GREAT God. He IS mighty and awesome. And guess what? He’s got this. He can handle anything. Who’s got it? God’s got it.”

Out of the Lions Den - Parachute Big Idea: Children will play with the parachute and stuffed toy lions. What You Need: Parachute and stuffed toy lions

What You Do: Before the Activity: Invite the children to stand around the parachute. Encourage the children to each take hold of the parachute and lift it off the ground. Place the lions onto the parachute. During the Activity: Instruct the children to move their arms up and down to move the parachute and send the lions up in the air and right out of the lions’ den. After the Activity: Repeat several times. What You Say: After the Activity: “That was a fun game, and you made the lions fly right out of the lion den. In our lesson today, the lions were quiet, gentle and nice with Daniel. They didn't hurt him. Are lions always quiet and gentle? (Pause.) NO! They are definitely not always quiet and gentle. God made the lions be nice to Daniel. He protected Daniel because Daniel made the right choice. Do you think it was easy for Daniel to do the right thing knowing he might get thrown in a pit with mean, hungry lions? (Pause.) No way! That had to be VERY hard to do. Lions are scary! They can eat you up! I bet Daniel was afraid of the lions, but he did the right thing, even when it wasn’t easy. God protected Daniel and He protects us too! We can always count on Him when we need Him. God’s got it! Who’s got it? God’s got it!”

Lion Races Big Idea: Children will pretend to be lions and race on all fours to the finish line and back. What You Need: Floor tape What You Do: Before the Activity: Use the floor tape to make two one-foot horizontal lines where you want the children to start the race. Make sure you have the lines about three feet apart from each other. Then make the same lines for your finish lines about 10-15 feet from the starting lines. During the Activity: Divide the children into two teams. Have each team line up in a single file line behind the starting lines. Challenge the children to be lions and get on all fours and race to the finish line and back. Encourage the children to roar while racing. When the children return to the starting line, ask them to stand up and go to the end of the line. Repeat until all of the children have had a turn. What You Say: Before the Activity: “We are going to have a race! We are going to pretend that we are LIONS and race! This will be so much fun!” During the Activity: “Everyone get down on all fours (demonstrate) and give me your loudest lion ROAR! (Pause.) Awesome! Now when I say, ‘Go,’ the first person will crawl and roar like a lion all the way to here (point to the finish line) and then come back to the start line (point to the start line). When you get back to the start line, stand up and go to the back of the line, so your other lion friends can have a turn. Are you ready? (Pause.) Here we go!” (Do activity.) After the Activity: “You did a great job pretending to be lions. You are all very fast lions! Today we heard a TRUE story from the Bible about lions! Shield of Protection What You Need: “God Protects Me Shield” Activity Page on white cardstock and “God Protects Me Images” cut out/apart, crayons, and glue sticks What You Do: Before the Activity: You’ll need one “God Protects Me Shield” and one set of “God Protects Me Images” for each child. During the Activity: Pass out the shields for the children to color. Talk about how God protected Daniel from the lions in our Bible lesson today. Then pass out the “God Protects Me Images” for the children to color. Hold up each image and review this month’s Bible stories. Lesson 1: Fire – God is always with me. Lesson 2: Ear – God always hears me. Lesson 3: Torch and pot – God teaches me the way to go. Lesson 4: The shield itself – God protects me. Encourage the children to glue each image to the correct box on their shield. What You Say: Before the Activity: “All month long, we’ve been learning that God’s got it! This shield reminds us that just as God protected Daniel, he protects us too! Do you see the other three boxes on your shield? (Point out.) I have some pictures that I want you to glue onto your shield.” During the Activity: “Lesson 1, this fire reminds me that God is always with me. He was with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the fiery furnace and He is with us too. Lesson 2, this ear reminds me that God always hears me. He heard Hagar’s cry when she ran out of food and water for her son, and God gave them what they needed. Lesson 3, the torch and pot remind me that God teaches me the way to go. God showed Gideon where to go and what to do so that he could win the battle against the bad guys. And this week, we learned that God protected Daniel from those hungry lions like a shield protects you. Will He protect us too? Yes! Who’s got it? God’s got it.” (Let children glue the different images onto their shields.) After the Activity: “Your shields look awesome! These different images on your shields remind me about all the amazing things we learned about God and His power this month. He is a big, mighty, and awesome God, and He’s got it. Who’s got it? God’s got it.”

Small Group Time What you Need: Parent Take Home Card, Playdoh, Animal Cookie Cutters, Rolling Pins, and Sticker Roll SMALL GROUP LEADER (SGL): (Make a lion out of the animal cookie cutters.) “Hey, friends! Come sit with me! We’re going to talk about Daniel and those lions! (Roar like a lion and show children lion cookie cutter.) Can you roar like a lion? (Pause for their roars.) Wow! It’s fun to pretend to be lions, but being thrown into a pit with real lions would NOT be fun! When Daniel did the right thing and only prayed to God, he was trusting that God’s got it. And God did have it! God protected Daniel from the lions just like a shield protects a soldier. Daniel learned that God is our protector. God’s got it! Who’s got it? God’s got it! (Allow children to make their own animal figures out of Playdoh)” SGL: “Who’s got it? God’s got it!” SGL: “God’s got it because He is great! God’s got it because He is mighty! God’s got it because He is awesome! Who’s got it? God’s got it!” SGL: “Yay! God’s got it! Okay, now it’s time for our discussion question. One, two, three, eyes on me! Daniel learned that God is a mighty protector, like a shield. He protected Daniel from the lions and He can protect you too.” “Let’s make a list of places or things that sometimes scare us. Maybe it’s going to the doctor, being away from your parents, or even the dark. When we pray we can use our list to thank God for protecting us. When I say your name, tell me one thing that scares you. Thank you for telling me these things. That was very brave of you.” “Ok, it’s time to review our lesson. I am going to ask you some questions and you will get a sticker for answering them. I have some really cool stickers today. Are you ready? (Pause.) Great! (Ask the children the questions from the “Parent Take Home Cards”. You can also make up additional questions from our video lesson. Don’t forget to ask them to say their memory verse for another sticker. You can repeat the same questions over and over as repetition is good for preschoolers.) You are such great listeners!” “Now I’ll pray before it’s time to say goodbye until next week. (Read the prayer on the back of the “Parent Take Home Card.”)”
