2019 The Journey June & July Dear Emmanuel Family, Spring has been lovely with her greenery spread across lawns and climbing up fences, and summer is upon us with giant magnolia blossoms, vegetable gardens, and bright sunny days. As we plan for the summerme around here at Emmanuel, we shiſt into the mode where some of us are traveling each week, and our schedules are a bit more haphazard than during the rest of the year. So, our Nurturing Min- istry has chosen some dates for us to gather around Gods word and Gods people. I hope you can get these on your calendars and make as many of them as possible. We are not whole without you, and God oſten uses your voice, your presence to teach and love us. Bible Study at a Restaurant is something we started this year, and we have enjoyed sharing meals and digging into scripture together. Below, youll find the dates for one meal each month. There is no need to sign up any- where, just come if you can, and tell them you are with Jennifers party. 2019 The Journey June & July

Dear Emmanuel Family, Spring has been lovely with her greenery spread across lawns and climbing up fences, and summer is upon us with giant magnolia blossoms, vegetable gardens, and bright sunny days. As we plan for the summertime around here at Emmanuel, we shift into the mode where some of us are traveling each week, and our schedules are a bit more haphazard than during the rest of the year. So, our Nurturing Min-istry has chosen some dates for us to gather around God’s word and God’s people. I hope you can get these on your calendars and make as many of them as possible. We are not whole without you, and God often uses your voice, your presence to teach and love us. Bible Study at a Restaurant is something we started this year, and we have enjoyed sharing meals and digging into scripture together. Below, you’ll find the dates for one meal each month. There is no need to sign up any-where, just come if you can, and tell them you are with Jennifer’s party. June 13th at 10:00am (Thursday) - Brunch and Bible Study at Tom’s Place in the back room July 22nd at 6:00 pm (Monday) - Dinner and Bible Study at ____TBA____ . Item-of-the-Month: June—Crackers, cold cereals,

granola bars, toilet paper. July—Canned beans, vegeta-

bles, and paper towels. Let’s fill the shopping cart in

the narthex!

June Prayer Focus

We pray the Holy Spirit will equip and inspire us to live lives that can’t be ignored or go un-noticed, lives that cause people to ask who we are, what moti-vates us and how they too can

share in our faith, joy and hope – not for our own recogni-tion, gratification or legacy, but for God’s glory. When life seems dark, our problems deep and in-surmountable or we long for forgiveness, pray to the Lord and trust God’s word, steadfast love and power to save. Remember in prayer parents and children during the summer months, a time when challenges of child care, hunger and meaningful, safe activities for youth can be complicated and acute; pray for wisdom and inspiration in creating services, programs and activities that support and strengthen families in your community. It’s sometimes tempting to underestimate our in-fluence and impact in the world as children of God, follow-ers of Jesus. Ask God to encourage us through the presence of the Holy Spirit to be confident and bold in bearing the good news of Jesus Christ and living, acting and advocating for the well-being of all people and communities. We pray the Spirit will help us discern what is true and consistent with God’s Word in the mix of all the mes-sages and influences that come at us each day and that we will have clarity and courage in sharing the gospel.

July Prayer Focus

Lord, we lift up all those who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens in this nation and throughout the world. We ask God to forgive us when we stray from God’s truth and ways, that we will stay on paths of humility, love and justice. When we feel weak, experience trouble or fear our ene-mies, we pray to God for strength, giving thanks and praise for the promise of God’s enduring love and refuge. We come to God in prayer, trusting in God’s patience and

responsiveness to our concerns, appeals and expres-

sions—spoken and unspoken—and ask that God will deep-

en our faith and teach us to pray without hesitation or self

-consciousness.

Fresh Bread folks will take

the summer off and meet again on Saturday morning September 7 at the church at 10:00. Folks will

view and discuss the PBS DVD series -- "Wisdom of Faith" -- with Bill Moyers interviewing Huston Smith, scholar of religious studies. This five part series co-vers Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Christianity, Judaism, and Islam. Huston Smith had a lifelong com-mitment for better understanding among religions so as to promote social justice and peace. Fresh Bread encourages any interested women to come and bring friends.
