Sunburn Prevention

Cover up with a hat, clothing, and sunglasses during peak hours (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.). Apply sunscreen or Before Sun Blend frequently.

Before Sun Blend

Burn Care

Burn Care Ingredient Highlights

• Carrot Seed is a great essential oil choice when dealing with most skin problems. It contains effective disinfectant and antiseptic properties that can heal skin infections and wounds.

• Lavender, vera has many antiseptic and analgesic properties that make it ideal for burn relief. It can assist with healing the burn, reduce the risk of scarring, and easing the pain.

• Wheatgerm Oil contains high amounts of Vitamins D and E, both of which are beneficial in skin health and treating scars.

• St. John’s Wort has been found beneficial in healing wounds and preventing scarring.

• Sesame Seed Oil is rich in Vitamin E along with antibacterial properties, making it a good treatment for cuts, wounds, and burns. It promotes healing and reduces the probability and appearance of scars.

Bee Stings

• 1 drop Chamomile, german or• 1 drop Helichrysum or• 1 drop Lavender, fine or• 1 drop Tea Tree

Any of these Essential Oils can be applied neat, directly on location, to the sting.

For added relief, mix one of the above Essential Oils with ¼ teaspoon of Clay Vitality Cleansing Mud and then apply directly on location.

Do not combine or use more than one of Essential Oils recommended above when treating bee stings.

Insect Bite Prevention

Avoid floral and sweet-smelling scents, whether artificial or natural, like perfumes, body lotions, and dryer sheets! Use a natural and DEET-free insect repellent such as goDésana Bug Pro-Tech spray.

Bug Pro-Tech (DEET-Free)

This is a gentle but very effective blend with several seasons of successful use to its credit. Safe for those of all ages, it’s in a base of hypoallergenic Grape Seed Oil with no toxic chemicals added. Naturally non-toxic and gentle on the skin, the Grape Seed oil base helps it stay on the surface of the skin longer than water-based products.

Bug Pro-Tech Ingredient Highlights • Eucalyptus citriodora has a high citronella content, making it a fantastic natural

insecticide. The scent is believed to confuse insects, making it difficult for them to find a host.

• Tea Tree has been found to be an effective insect repellent. It has a strong and distinctive smell while containing terpenes that repel insects. Tea Tree can also be helpful, as it is anti-fungal and antiseptic, if you are too late in applying as a natural repellent.

Lightly spray areas of exposed skin and spread evenly with hands. Do not spray directly onto the face; spray on hands and rub on face, being careful not to get too close to the eyes or in the mouth. Repeat as needed every 3-4 hours or if you notice a mosquito landing on your skin. Can also be sprayed into the environment to repel insects while outdoors. For Pets: Spray lightly on hands and then apply to animal’s coat. Do not use on cats.

After-Bite

After-Bite Blend is designed to assist with itching and swelling that develops around the area of an insect bite. After-Bite disinfects, heals wounds, and promotes detoxification of the toxin injected by the insect.

After-Bite Ingredient Highlights

• Patchouli is highly effective for keeping insects at a healthy distance. It also has great antiphlogistic and antiseptic properties, so in the event that you are bitten by an insect, it can help to take down the inflammation as well as protect the bite from developing an infection.

• Lavender, fine helps immensely when it comes to insect bites. With its antiseptic properties, it will help destroy germs that have the potential for infection while soothing the itch and speeding up the healing process.

Roll After-Bite over the surface of the bite area including all swollen and itchy areas. May be applied as needed to reduce itching, reduce swelling, and promote healing. Non-toxic and safe for all ages when used as directed.

After application of After-Bite, apply a small amount of Clay Vitality Cleansing Mud on location. This will assist with drawing out toxins injected by the insect. TLC All-Purpose Ointment may be applied to soothe, disinfect, and assist with healing.

Ticks

• Marjoram, sweet will assist with drawing out the tick.• After the tick has been removed, apply, ONE of the following Essential Oils

directly on location, then cover with Clay Vitality Cleansing Mud. Rinse after 10 minutes, and repeat every 10 minutes for one hour.

Recipes From The Stillroom

Oregano Lavender Ginger Root Tea Tree

Refer to the individual datasheets for each of the above oils for age appropriateness. TLC All-Purpose Ointment may be applied to soothe, disinfect, and assist with healing.

Minor Cuts, Burns, Scrapes & Splinters Cleansing Blend

• 10 drops Lavender Chamomile Blend• 10 drops Tea Tree• 5 drops Ravensara• 5 drops Thyme ct. linalool• 5 drops Eucalyptus radiata• 2 ounces Baby Bliss Shampoo & Body Wash

Mix in PET bottle, label, and shake well before using. Add 3 to 5 drops to wet washcloth or hands and lather. Gently wash wound or cut and allow to air dry. Store in a dark, cool place. Appropriate for use with children over the age of 1 and the elderly.

After washing, follow with application of TLC All-Purpose Ointment directly on location. Clay Vitality Cleansing Mud may be applied over TLC Ointment and then a bandage applied when appropriate.

• Lavender, vera is great for healing wounds due to its powerful antiseptic properties. Applying it to cuts and scrapes increases cell growth while speeding up the healing process and lessening the possibility of scars. It’s also known to assist with/stop bleeding, clean the wound, and kill pathogens.

• Cistus (Rose Of Sharon) Essential Oil has anti-hemorrhagic, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, and immune supportive properties that make it ideal in healing wounds, diminishing bruising, and reducing inflammation.

• Arnica Oil helps to reduce swelling, protect against infections, and alleviate pain. It’s often used in sports medicine as homeopathic first-aid relief for sports and exercise related injuries.

• Tamanu Oil has the ability to promote the growth of new tissue when applied to a wound. It is often used to relieve irritation caused by scrapes, burns, rashes, insect bites, scars, and sunburn. With its regenerative effects, it can bring comfort after too much sun exposure while breaking down some of the free radicals caused by the UV rays.

Fever

• 6 drops Eucalyptus radiata• 1 pint of lukewarm water

Mix well and pour into glass bowl. Give child a sponge bath with the Eucalyptus water.


Congestive Allergic Reactions

The Essential Oils in both Respi Relief and Respi Relief For Kids have been shown to be effective for relieving hay fever and other airborne, allergy-type symptoms that result in sneezing, runny nose, watery eyes, and so on.

Follow suggested usage guidelines on the label and datasheet of each product.

Topical Allergic Reactions

Apply Clay Vitality Cleansing Mud to the affected area and let sit until it’s almost dry. As the Clay Vitality Mud dries it will help to draw out toxins and soothe the allergic reaction. Follow with TLC All-Purpose Ointment.

Mental & Physical Fatigue

Peppermint and Clove Bud (found in Alert Blend) are mental as well as physical stimulants, and facilitate concentration without mental fatigue. Diffusing them into the room while studying or doing book work can be helpful to maintain alertness.

Several drops can be placed in a car diffuser when you are driving long distances to help you stay awake and alert. Additionally, while traveling, you may want to add 1 drop (only) to a bottle of water and sip on it as you drive. Many people find this very refreshing, and it can aid digestion which can suffer during travel.

Heat-Related Illness

For fast, cooling relief when overheated, apply diluted Peppermint Essential Oil to the back of the neck or soles of the feet. This is especially nice before hiking to help keep the feet cool and comfortable.

In the event of heat exhaustion, seek prompt medical attention. Symptoms of heat exhaustion include profuse sweating, weakness, nausea, vomiting, headache, lightheadedness, and muscle cramps.

Coriander SeedCoriandrum sativum For thousands of years, Coriander Seed has been used to stimulate the appetite and impart an enticing flavor to food. An invigorating aroma makes this a valuable aid for low physical energy and fatigue. Those recuperating from illness or childbirth will find Coriander Seed especially helpful in their recovery. Coriander’s energizing ability helps to stimulate the mind, enhance creativity and memory, promote confidence, and encourage self-expression. It is also an excellent aphrodisiac.

Coriander Seed is highly supportive to the endocrine and digestive systems, has been known to be supportive in balancing the blood sugar of diabetics, and aids in the treatment of arthritis. • Use 2-4 drops on reflex points on either hands or feet. • Use 2-4 drops on soles of feet or along the foot spinal reflex.

Burn Care Burn Care was formulated to assist with regenerating skin that has suffered burns, even serious burns.

Burns can be caused by heat, fire, radiation, sunlight, electricity, chemicals, and hot or boiling water. There are three degrees of burns:

First-Degree: Skin is red and painful, slightly swollen, and the area turns white when you press on the skin. The skin over the burn may peel off after 1 or 2 days, and most first-degree burns usually heal in 3 to 6 days. If a first-degree burn involves much of the hands, feet, face, groin, buttocks, or a major joint, seek emergency medical attention.

Second-Degree: Skin is red or splotchy and quite painful, may be very swollen, and blisters are typically present. If the second-degree burn is no larger than 3 inches (7.6 centimeters) in diameter, treat it as a minor burn. If the burned area is larger or covers the hands, feet, face, groin, buttocks, or a major joint, treat it as a major burn and get medical help immediately.

Third-Degree: Skin is white or charred, and damage can affect all layers down to the bone. There may be little or no pain because nerves and tissue in the skin are damaged. In the event of a third-degree burn, seek immediate medical attention.

Adsorption vs. Absorption

The two words are similar but their differences are fundamental to understanding how clay minerals function and how clay works. Clays that have the ability to absorb and adsorb, like Clay Vitality, are called living or active clays because they are capable of changing and exchanging.

Adsorption describes the process by which the charged particles of other substances combine with the charged particles on the outer surface of the clay molecule. Think of it as a magnet, good attracting bad, holding it like a sponge and expelling it as the body normally expels toxins (sweating, breathing, bowel movements and urine). The positively charged ions are attracted to the stronger, negatively charged surfaces of the clay molecule. An exchange reaction occurs in which the clay mineral ions are swapped for the ions of the positive charged substance. Absorption is a slower and more complex process. All absorbent clays have a charge on their inner layers. This means that charged ions sit between the layers of the clay molecule surrounded by water molecules. Lavender IceFor Kids & Elderly Headaches are a painful, recurring experience for many people. They may be caused by stress, eye strain, allergies, sinus congestion, hormone imbalances, and many other causes. Some are mild and just annoying while others are migraines, which for some people can be debilitating.

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (usually abbreviated to NSAIDs) are a class of drugs that provide analgesic (pain-killing) and antipyretic (fever-reducing) effects, and, in higher doses, anti-inflammatory effects.

At least one recent study has begun to examine a potential link between the usage of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and autism in children (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3673819/). Additionally, some physicians have concerns that ibuprofen and other NSAIDS can cause kidney damage.

Reye’s Syndrome, a rare but potentially life-threatening condition, has been linked to aspirin usage in children and teenagers. Though approved for use in children over the age of 2, aspirin should not be given to adolescents recovering from chickenpox or flu-like symptoms.

Overuse of medications is itself a contributing factor to headache (rebound headache). Over time, painkillers and other medications may lose their effectiveness.

Most headaches aren’t serious, but seek prompt medical care if your child’s headaches wake your child from sleep, worsen or become more frequent, change your child’s personality, follow an injury such as a blow to the head, feature persistent vomiting or visual changes, or are accompanied by fever and neck pain or stiffness.
