LUST

Lust or lechery (car-nal “luxuria”) is

usually thought of as excessive thoughts or desires of a sexual

nature.which therefore rendered love and devotion to God as

secondary

unforgiven souls of the sin of lust are

blown about in restless hurricane like winds symbolic of their own lack of self control to their lustful passions in

earthly life.

GREED

Greed (Latin, avari-tia), also known as

avarice, is like glut-tony, a sin of ex-cess. However, greed is applied to a very

excessive or rapacious desire of

wealth, status, and

power.

Unforgiven souls of the sin of Greed will suffer like those that

commit gluttony.

ENVY

Envy (Latin, invidia) may be characterized by an insatiable

desire;those who commit the sin of envy resent that another person has something they perceive themselves as lacking, and wish the other person to be deprived of it.

shut with wire.

GLUTTONY

the over-indulgence and over-consump-tion of anything to the point of waste. it is considered a sin because of the excessive desire for food, or its withholding from

the needy.

SLOTH

failure to utilize one’s talents and gifts. The modern view goes further, regarding laziness and indifference as the sin at the heart

of the matter.

Unforgiven souls of Sloth will be forced to work non-stop for

eternity.

VANITY

Vainglory (Latin, vanagloria) or Vanity, is unjustified

boasting. into pride for his listing of

sins.

eternity.

ENVY

Envy (Latin, invidia) may be characterized by an insatiable

desire;those who commit the sin of envy resent that another person has something they perceive themselves as lacking, and wish the other person to be deprived of it.

Read More booksProf. A.C. Grayling- “To read is to fly: it is

to soar to a point of vantage which gives a view over wide terrains of history, human variety,

ideas, shared experience and the fruits of many inquiries.”

Reading is like providing the mind with nour-ishment. Knowledge is the food for the mind and soul. Apart from giving us the basic informa-

tion about the world around us, it also provides us with the food for thought. It encourages us to think. It increases our hunger for knowledge and

our thirst to learn more.

Reading is an activity that keeps us occupied. Reading results in the fruitful usage of time. It helps us get rid of our anxieties. It diverts our mind from monotony and boredom. It is one of the best ways of relaxation. Reading novels or sto-ries takes us to a new world where we forget our sorrows and fears. Books make very good friends.

Research has shown that avid readers stand out from the rest because of improved cognitive abil-

ities. They can think creatively. It improves their grasping power. It makes them better ana-lyzers and problem solvers. Reading helps a per-

son be successful in life.

We say “Some people’s kids” and “If I were their

parents-“ Did you ever stop and think about the im-

pression you have made on ‘Other people’s kids’ or your own for that matter. If you where ‘Their’ Parents, do

you think it would be differ-ent? Do you not see what

I see? The younger genera-tion, the future generation, cussing, swearing, bullying.

No respect for authority, no respect for their peers. You cant walk onto a an Elementary playground

without hearing some child screaming racial and or

sexual comments. You can’t talk to these kids, because they don’t care what you have to say. So I ask you,

what happened? Where did our generation go wrong? Each year, the grotesque behavior gets worse, and

spreads. Soon, it will spread to the newborns, and we

will think it ‘normal’ for a baby to shout cuss words. Has our society really got-ten so corrupt? Will we let it get worse, before we de-

cide to make it better?

We must change it, we must brake through the world our So-ciety has created.HOW?It’s easier than you think. 1.) Do your part as a role mod-el, and set standards for yourself. If a child looks up to you, and sees your goals, they are likely to follow.2.) When you’re around young-er children, keep foul language out of conversations. If you think it is cool (Which its not) then they will think it’s alright to use “swear” words too. 3.) Don’t let a child witness you do something Illegal. If you smoke, if you do drugs, or if you drink. People have forgotten that children are impressionable. Even if your in you’re own home, and you’re old enough to, that does not give you the right to do it in front of children. Regardless if they are your sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, daughters, or sons. 4.) Last but not least, take the time to do things with our future generation. Take them for a walk, play a silly game, talk to them. Teach them right from wrong, don’t expect them to ‘know’ bet-ter. Because children only know what we teach them. A

Sitting here in class, not even being able to decide what to wear tomorrow, I have no other way but to realize that I have no power. I can’t decide what to wear, how on earth am I going to make other people do what I want them to do if I don’t even know what I want to do myself!? Another example, let’s say I was fat and I wanted to slim down, I wouldn’t be able to resist chocolate! Life as a teenager stinks! BUT! (No double “T”.) Adults don’t have power either! Not even the President! Mommy Agatha wants daughter Hildegard to wear a green butterfly sweater, Hil-degard who’s done with life and gets a headache from everything that isn’t black flips Mommy Agatha off. Conclusion? Well, this world is made up off a bunch of individuals who do not have any power. BUT! (No double “T”.) Is this a bad thing?

Dear JHS, how much power do you have? You, as an individual teenager with acne, no love life and obnoxious parents, how much power do you have? Are you able to influence other people? Can you bend them to your will?

I got the POWER?!

The Future of America BY Harsha SekhriRipped jeans, finger in nose, little white things in their ears and a can of pop loaded with deadly chemicals in hand. What am I talk-ing about? Exactly! The juniors 2010 are getting ready to approach their final year as a SENIOR!On May 28, the future of America is going through the last day of their junior year and after very brief 12 weeks, they will be seniors, they will be serious, mature and very responsible, right? Let’s hear

about that matter first!Casey Creek said, “I think that there are some seniors who are pretty well prepared and others… Let’s just say they shouldn’t have gotten out of middle school”.

Memii Saravia says, “Our seniors are pretty awesome”! Woo, woo!

Well, obviously there are mixed feelings about our seniors this year… What do juniors think they will be like in their

roles as seniors?

Jace Bloom said, “We’ll be just as worthy if not much better”. Saravia is convinced their senior class is going to be “balling”!!!

I guess our juniors are very confident they’ll be great

seniors… Will they be mature?

Page 17: June Issue Tiger

Victor McKay said, ” What our juniors need are Macy’s subscrip-tions, belts and some of them deodorants before they can even think of stepping out in the real world”. He adds, “ Based on my final examination I think we have quite a promising future at

JHS”.

Creek said, “It is a love-hate thing, I want to get moving in life, but I will miss

school, oddly”.

Page 18: June Issue Tiger

Random ThoughtsGosh, I really don’t want to write this. The little, cute and obnoxious freshmen are watching Freedom Writers while I have to sit here, and try not to think about my delicious chocolate muffin I have in my bag but I can’t eat. Quick Quin just won’t allow it! Well. What should I write about today? Maybe love, school, stars, music… All we want is positive stuff of course, right? NO! Actually I’m under the influence of hormones this week so I’m going to reveal my dark side to you JHS!I had a dream… I shouted at snow white! I can’t remember what made me so mad… I guess it was the fact that in my dream snow white sang about love and free birds. UGH! I’m sick of this romantic wishi washi! To be honest I can’t wait till I’m 21! I’m in such a mood to go clubbing back home in Germany, shaking off anger and frustration and just go with the beat… Only 6 weeks and I’m home! ;) It’s depressing and exciting at the same time… Yay-Yuh!

Page 19: June Issue Tiger

I just had a random thought when Hailey shouted at a freshman… I have to admit I really enjoyed it! Why do we dislike freshmen so much? I know they’re obnoxious, loud and very nosy but they’re so young. We should forgive them. By the way, senior guys take advan-tage of pitiful freshmen girls all the time! So! Let’s be kind. I know I contradicted myself, never mind. Let’s be rebellious, fight against injustice and do not be soft and weak and just weep about things! Your boyfriend cheated on you? Hell! Go and cheat on him and let him know you can be just as bad and cruel! Come on girl, you’re made of tuff material, I don’t want any weeping! You have a crush on that cool senior football player but he doesn’t know you exist? You’re slowly getting mad about him being so ignorant? Put on high heels and tight jeans, walk right in front of him, smile at him and then pretend he doesn’t exist any-more!Your HashBrowns, all riled up and hormonal! PS I want cherry pie now!PSS I messed up this layout on purpose.PSSS... Nothing really, I just wanted to write PSSS.PSSSS... 4 S’s lol.PSSSSS... Nevermind...

Theodore Roosevelt’s policy on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN

Are we “SLOW LEARNERS” or what?Theodore Roosevelt on Immigrants and being an

AMERICAN

“In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and

assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to

discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man’s

becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any

man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this

excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign

flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...

and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.”

-Theodore Roosevelt 1907

Illegal immagration is a serious problem, and soon americans will become the minority in their own country. Its happening as

(This article has no racist connection. It is not against one race. It is silply getting the word out about illegal immigrants.)

MANIA By:Becca wensveen

What is the best part about your school? Is it football season? Maybe it’s winter break? Well, for Jerome, it’s Tigermania! Tigermania is an annual assembly that takes place all school day! We play games , watch performances, and we get an hour long lunch!!! This year Senior, Tra-cy Sedano, put Tigermania together for her se-nior project. “I thought they did a really good job with the videos and the music. It was really interesting,” said Mrs. Rogers, 9th and 10th grade English teacher. This year, the theme was a trip to the carnival. We had clowns, pie eating contests, and awe-some dances! We had alot of fun this year with Tiger mania. hopefully next year will be able to live up to this year’s standards.

Out of many, ONE!By: Trinny Johnson

There are many different talented students at this school. One of these talents is singing. There are many students that love to sing. On Tuesday May 18th, JHS had a choir concert. This was the ending concert for the year. This concert was one of the best of all of them.Tons of things happened at this concert, from a flag cer-emony to senior recognitions. It was a very emotional time for some, knowing that seniors are leaving in just a few days.Senior Amanda Stone said “I’m excited and nervous to graduate. Without Mrs. Palmer I would not be as good as I am, she is the reason for my success.” The first thing that happened at this concert was a flag ceremony. This was for all the veterans and for the cur-rent solders. Made by a student here at JHS, Ariel Hod-nett; she sang a song that she dictated to her father and to her brother. Both of these great guys are in the mili-tary service, serving our country. Junior Kadi Carter said “I am going to miss Amanda Stone very bad, I started to cry when Mrs. Palmer an-nounced her name.” There were many small ensembles, in which they each worked on and sang a different song. The whole trimes-ter was dedicated to each group working on the song that they had picked and the three whole group songs. Mrs.Palmer said that she was very happy with the con-cert and that she was very excited that she was able to do a musical with Chamber Singers. All in all, the concert was a great success. Many parents showed up to support all the students.

The lights dimmed, the crowd buzzed, and the band played. At the band awards concert every year, nerves run high pulses race, and musicians get the recognition they deserve.

The Concert started with crowd favorites, played by a combined group made up of the middle school and high school bands. The crowd stood, clapped and saluted our flag as the combined group played the Star Spangled Banner and the school fight songs, Tiger Rag and On Wisconsin.

As the night progressed the band added their unique style to a medley of John Williams hits, and debuted their new field show, Simplicity. This field show will be played during the 2010 marching season. The band director, Mr. Smith is excited about the challenges the band will face with this field show, and is confident they will overcome them.

One of the things that the band students learn is leadership. Mr. Smith over the years has taught us how to be leaders, and the band is certainly not lacking any. The students that go above and beyond the call of duty are rewarded greatly.

At the concert these exceptional students were named as captains. Color Guard Captain went to Ms. Casey Clark, a very deserving member. Her Co captains will be Sabrina Brian and Anastasia King. “I plan to get the guard to work together as a team instead of individuals.” Said Sabrina Brian.

Not only will Anastasia be Color Guard co captain, but she will also be assistant field conductor with Anna Naranjo. “I like Mr. Smith choices for field conductors,” said current conductor, Sabra Cain, “I think the girls will step up to the job and it will be good for everyone.”

Section captains for the band include Hope Haycock (High Winds), Mardee Burnham (Trumpet), Jerman Orozco (Low Brass), Chance Clark (Percussion), and Hannah Lock (Pit Orchestra). “I chose these people based on odd criteria,” Said Mr. Smith, “I was looking for people with experience and whom the section will respect.

After all the awards were given, the real tear jerkers came. The seniors were recognized for their membership in the fastest growing band program in the state. This concert was especially memorable because it is the last concert they will perform in as a member in the JHS Band.

It is always hard for members to leave the band and we will all struggle with saying goodbye. “We have grown attached to them, and they (seniors) are a big part of our family, it’s fair to say I’m going to miss them greatly. Shelbi Raney, a senior says that it will be hard to say goodbye, because all of her friends will still be attending JHS.

Many People have helped this band become what it is and deserve the same recognition given to people at the awards concert. Thank you to all of the boosters, for being the backbone of the band. Thank you Mr. Smith, for being strong when the rest of us were not. And especially to the seniors : I know I speak for us all when I say , “ Thank you for all that you were, all that you are , and all that you will be to this band organization. We will now carry the torch you have passed down, with pride, and keep the flame of musicianship alive.”

EXCHANGE

STUDENT Guten Tag,I’m Harsha aka HashBrowns.

I’m 16 and an exchange student from Germany although a lot of people mistake me for hispanic. Well, I have black hair and brown eyes… That’s because I have an Indian background ;). I like to hang with my friends here and in Germany . I’m going to miss the USA loads, although it doesn’t seem like it when I talk about Hamburg, my home town in Germany, I will! What on earth will I eat? We have neither skittles nor air heads. Ter-rible!!!I will miss so many of my friends here like crazy! Of course I’m excited for the clubs in Germany, my bestie’ s and my family of course… It’s just a mixed pot of crappy feelings… Well, since this is supposed to be a biography I’ll tell you about the important stuff in my life, I got a governmental scholarship to come here, I strongly dislike my teachers in Germany, I love clubbing in Hamburg, I think Prom here is super cool!!! Um… What else? I’m addicted to shopping!!! I love Forever 21, Amer-ican Eagle and Urban Outfitters!!! I was born in Germany, I love my country, I’m an only child and really wish I had a big brother I could poke in the stomach! ;) I like to be funny, I’m very moody, I talk a LOT and I’m not too shy to let everyone know what my opinion about life is! ;)That’s about it. ;)

German View“one year in the United States of America. Fun not guaranteed.” That is what our JHS exchange students dived into! one year away from their family and friends, in the country where people eat sausage with syrup instead of ketchup!

Harsha Sekhri said having come to the USA was one of the biggest challeng-es and adventures in life she ever had.

Sarah Mehler agreed, “The USA is so fascinating and very different from Germany... When it comes to sausage at least.. “

“It’s true,” said lisa Zimmerling “the USA is not as different from Germany as most of the people here think.”

What do the Germans think of our

seniOrs?

Page 39: June Issue Tiger

German ViewMehler said, “This is what I always imag-ined seniors to be like, funny, determined, a litlle stressed and having a heck load of fun!”

Sekhri said, “Well, this is not quite High School Musical, but it’s pretty acceptable.. ;)”

Zimmerling said, seniors here are ac-tually very comparable to the seniors in Germany. She would have liked to be a senior, but it’s ok that she isn’t, most of her friends are sophomores and juniors anyways.

Mehler said, having lived in the USA for one year has totally bossted her ego.
