Arlington RAPID: Rideshare, Automation, and Payment Integration Demonstration
Overview: One-year demonstration project to integrate autonomous vehicles on the Via rideshare service and allow UTA students to ride the AVs for free
Program: One of 25 projects awarded through the Federal Transit Administration’s competitive Integrated Mobility Innovation grant program
Partners:
• Via Transportation, Inc.
• May Mobility
• University of Texas at Arlington
Demonstration Location: AVs will operate in Downtown Arlington and on UTA’s campus

• Local Cost Share: $1,146,925
• Total Project Cost: $2,845,483
Timeline:
• Planning Phase: Present – February 2021
• Demonstration Phase: March 2021 – February 2022
• Evaluation and Knowledge Transfer: March 2022 – November 2022
Process:
• Requires amendment to existing Via contract and agreements with FTA and UTA

6UTA Summer Shuttle Service
Overview: Three-month partnership between UTA and Via to provide Via rides for UTA students, in place of UTA shuttles
Details:
• All UTA students will be able to take Via for free to and from certain designated areas on and around UTA’s campus
• Due to few students on campus for the summer, this will allow UTA to suspend their shuttle service
Funding: Via will invoice UTA directly for the cost of all eligible rides, at the rate of $3 per ride
Proposed Term: June 1 – August 21, 2020

Overview: Two-year pilot program to allow eligible students to ride Via for free
Eligible Students: All enrolled Tarrant County College students
Funding: $350,000 additional Federal Transit Administration funding from NCTCOG
Proposed Start Date: August 2020
Process: Requires amendment to existing Via contract and an agreement with TCC

CARES ACT – FTA Funding 10
The Federal Transit Administration was provided with $25 billion in supplemental funding to allocate to recipients of urbanized area and rural area formula funds
• 100-percent federal share, with no local match required
• Available to support capital, operating, and other expenses generally eligible under those programs to prevent, prepare for, and respond to COVID-19
• May be used on expenses Jan 20, 2020 and later
• Funds available until expended, but FTA encourages entities to use the funds quickly as the intent is to relieve COVID challenges now.
• No inclusion in TIP unless funding will be used for projects that have substantial functional, locational, or capacity changes
