Parish Office : Open Monday through Friday From 9:00am to 4:30pm
The mission of St. Joseph’s Church is to be a welcoming, caring, Christ-centered Catholic community. We desire to
experience and share God’s unconditional love. Inspired by the example of Jesus, we strive to lead all people to
wholeness and fullness of life.
The Sacrament of Marriage is celebrated after a period of preparation of no less than six months. Those who wish to marry at St. Joseph’s are invited to contact one of the priests during regular weekday office hours before making any other arrangements. The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated, on the first and third Sundays of the month at 1:30pm. Please call the Parish Office to schedule an appointment with one of the priests. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is available at any time to any Catholic over the age of reason who is seriously ill, preparing for surgery or suffering the effects of age. The priests of the parish regularly celebrate the Eucharist and administer the sacrament of the sick at the area nursing homes; lay ministers lead services and bring communion to the residents every Sunday.

O blessed Joseph, faithful guardian of my Redeemer, Jesus Christ, protector of thy chaste spouse, the virgin Mother of God, I choose thee this day to be my special patron and advocate and I firmly resolve to honor thee all the days of my life. Therefore I humbly beseech thee to receive me as thy client, to instruct me in every doubt, to comfort me in every affliction, to obtain for me and for all the knowledge and love of the Heart of Jesus, and finally to defend and protect me at the hour of my death. I was informed a few weeks ago that St. Joseph’s Church would be receiving one of our Archdiocesan seminarians for part of the summer.
David Birkdale completed his 1st year of Theology at Catholic University’s Theological Seminary in Washington DC.
David grew up in New Hyde Park Long Island with his mom and dad and two younger broth-ers. He went to Chaminade High School and received his undergraduate degree in Philosophy from Fordham University.
We welcome David to our parish community of St. Joseph’s. David will be with us beginning the week of June 15th thru the month of July. Please pray for David and all of our seminarians that God lead and guide them in their discernment of the priestly vocation
From the Desk of Fr. Lagiovane
My Dear Parishioners,
My two prime reasons for this letter to our faithful and dedicated parishioners are as follows:
First ~ To, once again, express my sincerest appreciation and gratitude to you, most impor tantly, for
your continued prayers and for your support for the wellbeing of all of us with your ongoing financial assis-
tance. These supports are truly an inspiration to me as I continue to lead our parish through one of the most
difficult periods in her 175 years of service. I feel truly blessed to serve this faith community as your pastor.
Secondly ~ To keep you fully informed about our par ish’s financial status, I wish to share our plans with
you regarding some of our income receipts and our ongoing necessary expenditures. To accomplish this goal, I
want to inform you that I am currently assessing all aspects of our financial plan for our parish needs for the
next fiscal year commencing September 1st. As you know, we are living in unprecedented times dealing with
many aspects of this serious pandemic which has impacted all our lives and our parish – its liturgical services
and financial solvency.
Our current financial status remains relatively stable due to our previous year savings and despite some de-
creased revenues from our parishioners and benefactors due to the lack of permitted services such as Masses,
Baptisms, Weddings, etc. At all times, I thank God for our many parishioners who continue to contribute on a
weekly basis to help us meet our many expenses. Also, we have benefitted from a one-time government grant
of $109,000 which we applied for and received from the government’s Paycheck Protection Program which
assisted us in meeting some of our payroll and utility expenses during the last two months.
Additional income received to date includes our Easter collection which totaled over $ 72,000. Down about
8,000 dollars from the previous year. Many thanks for your generosity especially given no church services
could be offered. Our monthly collections are down as is indicated each week in our bulletin along with our
second collections for the parish. Our On-Line giving/ “We Share” has increased a few thousand dollars each
month.
As I plan for the next fiscal and future years, it is imperative on me to reexamine all income and expense budg-
et categories including current staffing needs. There are certain fixed expenses which have doubled since our
move from Croton Falls to our new church which must be met on a monthly basis. Some of these very signifi-
cant expenses include our monthly loan obligation on our church mortgage of $50,000. Currently, we are us-
ing revenues which we had collected from our Renew and Rebuild Campaign (R&R) of a few years ago to
cover part of the loan. Since we are in extraordinary times and weekly/other collections are not enough to cov-
er the loan payment each month, we were required to use these R&R funds to cover the loan. My intention-
“Plan A”- was to build up that fund to the point of being able to put a large down payment to further reduce
interest charges and the total loan amount. However, I had to go to - “Plan B”- and utilize the R&R funds to
help pay the monthly loan charge”.
Continue on the next page………..
Thank you for your continued prayers and financial support during
these difficult and challenging days for all of us.
We rely on the generosity of God's people to pay our bills each week.
If you would like to contribute each week:
*You can leave your donations in the collection box in the Narthex of the Church.
*Mail them into the Parish Office.
*Or use our On- Line Giving - "We Share"
https://stjosephsomers.churchgiving.com/
Other major expenses include maintenance needs, utility costs, staffing needs, etc. We do our best to monitor
all these budget categories very carefully on a frequent basis and will continue to do so. Many of the budget
modifications/ staffing decisions which I made six years ago, in addition to those in the ensuing years, have
proven to be beneficial for the overall financial stability of our parish. Although we do have some savings for
emergency and other potential needs, we must maintain a fund balance of reserves to ensure our financial sol-
vency and stability.
Please note, to recover some of our lost revenues from the decrease in collections and our inability to conduct
Sunday Masses and other parish liturgical programs due to the crisis, I would ask you to please consider our
special second collection on the weekend of June 28th. Those who receive envelopes will notice the inclusion
of this envelope in their monthly packets. For those who contribute through our online giving- “We Share”-
will see a line stating, “Make up for the loss of collection due to closure”. This special collection, once again,
is for those who may not have yet had an opportunity to contribute or for those who may be able to further
supplement their previous donations. For others who are not able to assist us at this time, please know that I
certainly understand. I know how hard it is for many of our families in making ends meet at this time.
Finally, let us continue to pray for each other. I am confident that Our good Lord will continue to strengthen
us and increase our faith.
I pray that God’s peace be upon you and your families as we move closer to worshipping together as a parish
family.
In Christ,
Rev. Father John M. Lagiovane Pastor
