Weekly Reflection

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE by Rev. William J. Reilly “On the way they entered a Samaritan village, but they would not welcome him because the destination of his journey was Jerusalem… As they were proceeding on their journey someone said to him ‘I will follow you wherever you go… and to another He said ‘Follow me’” Such great contrasts. No welcome, hesitation, and commitment, all within a few short verses. Today, we find rejection of the invitation, insecurity concerning discipleship, and complete dedication. I ask myself, where do I stand. Our society and culture finds it difficult to meet the challenge of the gospel. At best there is indifference. Some begin, attracted to the person of Jesus and life in the church, but become lax, or are caught just in routine. Many are dedicated and enthusiastic, as the gospel gives meaning to their lives, enriches their families and brings great joy and peace. As vacation time begins, it might be a good time to ask where discipleship is leading me and discover the potential I have and the call of the Lord for me in these summer months.

Welcome Back to Ordinary Time

Because the term ordinary in English most often means something that's not special or distinctive, many people think that Ordinary Time refers to parts of the calendar of the Catholic Church that are unimportant. Even though the season of Ordinary Time makes up most of the liturgical year in the Catholic Church, the fact that Ordinary Time refers to those periods that fall outside of the major liturgical seasons reinforces this impression. Yet Ordinary Time is far from unimportant or uninteresting.

Ordinary Time is called "ordinary" not because it is common but simply because the weeks of Ordinary Time are numbered. The numbered weeks of Ordinary Time, in fact, represent the ordered life of the Church—the period in which we live our lives in watchfulness and expectation of the Second Coming of Christ. Ordinary Time is the part of the year in which Christ, the Lamb of God, walks among us and transforms our lives. There's nothing "ordinary" about that!

Summer Option Program

This past week many of our 7th and 8th graders gathered for our Summer Option program. It was a week filled with prayer, scripture, and faith sharing. Once again Array of Hope was able to join us for two of the days and the kids thoroughly enjoyed our time together. It was an awesome week.

Religious Education Registration Registration forms should have been picked up during the last Monday class or the last Family Based gathering. If you need to pick yours up, stop by the Religious Education office.

Travel size toiletries needed Please bring in travel size toiletries to the Parish Center to be distributed to the less fortunate during one of our 7th & 8th grade large gatherings. Soap, shampoo, toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, hand cream and razors are suggested items. Thank you for contributing to this night of outreach.

True Freedom is found in our Lord Jesus Christ who liberated us from sin through His death and resurrection. As we rejoice with our fellow Americans for the independence we enjoy in the United States, let us never forget those who are restricted by the chains of poverty. Why not celebrate your freedom by an act of kindness? One way to do this is by donating your unwanted clothing and shoes to the Catholic Charities donation bin located on our property. Thank you.

Prayer for Our Country By George Washington

“Almighty God, who has given us this good land for our heritage: We humbly beseech you that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of your favor and glad to do your will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom your Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to your law, we may show forth your praise among the nations of the earth. In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness and in the day of trouble, do not allow our trust in you to fall; all this we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord.” AMEN!
