Thanks to everyone who donated to the June Food Drive. There is increased need at TEAM during the summer months. Some of the food donations will be taken to our clients who are struggling to make ends meet. As always, we appreciate everyone who uses the SVDP envelope in the parish pack-et or the brown envelope at the back of church. We are seeing an increase in families who are being threatened with gas or electric disconnection. Thanks to everyone who played in the North District SVDP golf tournament or was a hole sponsor. The report was that everyone had a good time.

Remember that June is the month of the Sacred Heart and July is the month of the Most Precious Blood of Jesus!
AS I WRITE THIS… …I am still on the east coast, freeloading on my relatives (and having a wonderful time). By the time you read this, however, I will have already returned and be back on the job. Be-ing essentially vacant (which, I suppose, is why it’s called a “vacation”), I don’t have much to tell, but there are a couple of things, as you will see as you scroll down. PIANO RECITAL The upcoming piano recital for the parish by our home-grown virtuoso, maestro Danny Kuehler, will still take place, but there might be a change in the date or location. It’s still a couple of weeks away, so you’ll be notified with plenty of time to spare. All this is because of instrument itself. We’re trying to obtain for him as fine an instrument as we can, but to get a really good one involves some logistical problems. His list of awards and achievements con-stitutes a most impressive resume, one that many would envy. I believe he will treat us to a great show! PETER AND PAUL This coming Wednesday (June 29) is the great feast of the two foremost apostles, St. Peter and St. Paul. Consequently, it is also the time when the whole universal Church sends mon-ey to Peter’s successor, so that he, in the manner of the apostles of old, can distribute it to the needy of the world. Called “Peter’s Pence”, this collection will be taken up this weekend. Please be as generous as you can afford. QUIZ-A-CATHOLIC In the spirit of summer vacation, I haven’t given you a quiz for a while. I suspect, howev-er, that some of you haven’t done too well on the quizzes of the past, so I’ll include one this weekend, as a sort of “summer school” so I won’t have to have anybody repeat the academic year. I’ll make it easy…this one is a repeat from last October and it’s on the important cities mentioned in the Bible. See if you know… 1. The city where Jonah was regurgitated so that he could tell them to shape up. 2. The city where Joshua “fit de battle”. 3. The biblical city in whose valley the “last battle” will take place. 4. The city of Jesus’ birth. 5. The city of Jesus’ Death and Burial. 6. Any of the cities to whose Churches the Angel of the Book or Revelation speaks. 7. The famous isthmus, whose residents had a reputation for scandalous living, and to whom St. Paul wrote at least two letters. 8. The capital of the Empire and the greatest city of the day.

QUOTES OF THE WEEK
(This week’s quotes are given in a sense of irony: they are bold expressions of Catholic belief, but ut-tered by men who dramatically abandoned their faith and caused grave scandal, wounding the Body of Christ terribly. But when they were good, they were very, very good, but when they were bad, they were horrid.)
“They sin damnably who do not obey the Pope.” – Martin Luther
“Excommunication is a medicine, and to be suffered with patience and obedience.”- Mar-tin Luther, who suffered his own excommunication with uttered blasphemies and “intolerable quarrels”
Our source for these quotes from Luther is none other than King Henry VIII of England, who would go on to say: “It plainly appears that those who are driven from the bosom of holy Mother Church are immediately seized, possessed with furies, and tormented by devils” and, “Truly, if anyone will look upon ancient mon-uments, or read the History of former times, one may easily find that all Churches in Chris-tendom have been obedient to the See of Rome since the conversion of the world.”
If only Henry would have followed his own advice! The quotes are taken from his theological treatise, “The Defense of the Seven Sacraments”, and is so wonderfully Catholic and defends the faith so well that, after he left the Catholic Church to start his own version of it, he tried to blame it on St. Thom-as More, his friend, whom he martyred for oppos-ing him (and whose feast was just last week)!

A Rose for Life If you are expecting a baby, awaiting an adoption, or tryin g to conceive, the Pro- Life Committee would like to place a rose with your name on it in a vase in front of the St. Angela statue in the Church lobby. Your parish family will remember you in their prayers as you await your arrival. A special white rose represents those who have conceived, and a special yellow rose represents those we are praying for who are waiting to be blessed with a pregnancy or adoption. Please call Karen Dietz, 314-799-5936. For those whose babies have ar-rived, please take your rose as a remembrance of this very special time.
Daniel Kuehler, our parish pianist for 12 years, will give a benefit concert at St. Angela Merici on Sunday, July 10th at 2:00 pm Since making his Sheldon Concert Hall debut at age 9, Dan-iel has continued to follow his passion for mu-sic, leading him to win local, national, and in-ternational competitions and to play through-out the United States, Russia and Portugal. He has received his Bachelors of Music in piano performance at UMSL and is currently pursu-ing a Masters in piano performance at the Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. This summer, Daniel has been invited to attend two music festivals in Vienna and Xian, China. Both of these festivals present rich op-portunities to take lessons from and perform with internationally acclaimed pianists at pres-tigious venues. All proceeds will be contribut-ed to support Daniel's attendance of these festi-vals. On the program will be works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Rachmaninov, Scarlatti, and Schumann. Admission is free and free-will donations are welcome and greatly appreciat-ed.
Daniel Kuehler, parishioner, parish pianist and wonderful young man, is giving a ben-efit Concert at St. Angela! Don’t miss this!
