Registration is open for Gifted, Talented InstituteThe Gifted and Talented In-

stitute (GTI) is being offered for the ninth summer.

Students, who are enter-ing kindergarten through 12th grade in fall 2010 can take classes on a wide variety of topics, in-cluding: geology, claymation, lit-

erature, fencing, theatre, archi-tecture, chemistry, art and more. Classes started June 21 and are offered through July 30.

Students who are currently enrolled or identifi ed in a gifted and talented program in their school district are eligible to at-

tend. In addition, students who demonstrate specifi c talents in classes being offered may also enroll.

The institute is supported by fees paid by parents and by grants. Registration can be done online at www.giftedtal-

ented.org. Call (952) 707-4150 for further information about the program. All classes will take place at Eagle Ridge Junior High School and are organized by Burnsville-Eagan-Savage School District Community Education.

The institute is a collabora-tion of nine school districts: Bur nsville-Eagan-Savage, Farmington, Lakeville, Rose-mount-Apple Valley-Eagan, Inver Grove Heights, Jordan, Prior Lake-Savage Area, Shako-pee and South St. Paul.

$2,000 for K-9During the Mission Carnival at St. John the Baptist Catholic School, students raised $2,000 for a new K-9 dog for the Burnsville Police Department. Teacher Megan Scherf, who coordinated the carnival, recently presented Offi cer Dan Long and Dagger, Burnsville’s current K-9 partners, with a check. Dagger will retire from the de-partment at the end of the year and the money will help go toward the cost of a new police dog, which is between $7,500-$8,000.
