I MUST USE BIBLE-PROVEN PATTERN AND ATTITUDES AS I INVOLVE IN GOD’S WORK. VOLUME 22 • ISSUE 26 • JUNE 24 PATTERN OF INVOLVEMENT To God be the glory for His greatness in our church for the past six months! Our theme, “Resolved to Involve,” is continually showing its essence, effect, and effort in the lives of the members, especially in those who are striving to do their best to make such a reality, by God’s grace. God is letting us see how He teaches Christians to love Him more and see the importance of involv- ing in His vineyard. I thank God for members who had involved in our Anniversary, Youth Conference, Vacation Bible School and even those who enrolled in our Bible College this semester. Truly because of your involvement, we accomplish more for God. Yet, our task is not over. This week starts the other half of the year, and there is more to be done. That is why Habakkuk 3:2 is a great reminder for us, “…O LORD, revive thy work in the midst of the years,…” May we check our spiritual accomplishment and ask God to revive us so we can serve Him better. May we develop our love for God more, so when discouragement comes and Satan tries to hinder us, we will still have the courage to keep on. I encourage you as we enter the second half of the year to be resolved to involve! If you are involved already, I appreciate your labour for the Lord. By His power, let us be determined to stay involved! DR. ED M. LAURENA

To God be the glory for His greatness in our church for the past six months! Our theme, “Resolved to Involve,” is continually showing its essence, effect, and effort in the lives of the members, especially in those who are striving to do their best to make such a reality, by God’s grace. God is letting us see how He teaches Christians to love Him more and see the importance of involv-ing in His vineyard.

Great BHBC Opening WeekWith 160 enrolled students, Baptist Heritage Bible College opened up its 1st Semester last week. Several new students mostly from our church with a few from other churches were also added to our college dormitory. It is also a blessing to see many who enrolled in the night classes, commonly known as CBE (Certificate in Bible Education). Preacher Meljun Laurena, the college Executive Vice-President, preached on the orientation night; while the President, Dr. Ed, challenged the students the second night to be intentionally rooted for God. Let us pray and support our Bible students as they continue to study and be equipped with Bible doctrines and principles that will help them to become more useful for His glory!

The hymn writer Frances Havergal gave several reasons for attending

church—especially on rainy days.

1. God has blessed the Lord’s Day, making no exceptions

for rainy days.

2. I expect my minister to be there. I would be surprised

if he stayed at home because of the weather.

3. I might lose out on the prayers and the sermon that

would have done me great good.

4. For important business, rain doesn’t keep me home; and church is,

in God’s sight, very important.

5. Bad weather...will prove how much I love Christ. True love rarely fails

to keep an appointment.

6. Those who stay home from church because it’s rainy frequently miss

on fair Sundays too. I must not take one step in that direction.

7. Christ said that “where two or three are gathered together in my

name, there am I in the midst of them” (Matthew 18:20).

8. I don’t know how many more Sundays God may give me. It would

be poor preparation for my first Sunday in heaven to have slighted my

last one on earth.

A church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper

and complained that it made no sense to go to church every

Sunday. The letter reads as follows:

“I've gone to church for 30 years now. In that time I have heard something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of them. So, I think I'm wasting my time, and the pastors are wasting their time.”

This started a real controversy in the Letters to the Editor

column – much to the delight of the editor. It went on for

weeks until someone wrote the following clincher:

“I've been married for 30 years now. In that time, my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this: They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given me these meals, I would be physi-cally dead today. Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!”

Thank God for spiritual and physical nourishment!

Have you heard the story of Jim and Ron? Jim went to church one Sunday morning. He heard the organist miss a note, and he winced. He saw a teen talking when everyone else was praying. He felt certain the usher was watching to see what he put in the offer-

ing bag, and it made him angry. Five times, by actual count, he caught the preacher in slip-of-

the-tongue mistakes. During the invitation, he slipped out, all the while muttering to himself,

“What a waste of time!” Ron went to church also. He heard the pianist play an arrangement of “A

Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” and he was stirred to worship by the majesty of it. A special mis-

sions offering was requested, and he was glad his church was doing what they could for people

around the world. He especially appreciated the sermon that Sunday; it really spoke to a need in

his life. He thought, as he shook the preacher’s hand and left, “How can anyone come here and

not feel the presence of the Lord?” Both men were in the same church the same day. Each found

what he was looking for. It has been said that churches and banks are much alike in one respect:

“What one gets out is, for the most part, dependent upon what one puts in.”

WHAT Do You

GET Out of

CHURCH?

A woman in China had been invited to a church and had gone just to please her friend. While she was there, she received Jesus Christ and began attending regularly. She did that because she found

pure joy in her soul while she was at church. That was the one place in her life she could actually worship in the Lord’s very presence. And since she loved being close to Jesus that much, she wanted her daughter to know the same feeling. There were two problems, though. Her daughter was an "invalid" and unable to walk, and they lived 18 miles from church. The mother wanted to go to church so badly; she was willing to overcome these obstacles. She purchased a basket big enough to put on her back, and she carried her daughter all the way to church. They would leave the night before and walk most of the night. Then they would spend the entire rest of the day walking back home. Don’t let the smallest of excuses keep us from going to church!

"The church was not designed to be a reservoir, ever-receiving and retaining

for itself God’s spiritual blessings, but rather a conduit, conveying them on

and out to others everywhere." -Anonymous

Sis. Neth F. Garrido"What shall I render unto the LORD for all his benefits toward me?" Psalm 16:12Salvation, church and ministry are God’s greatest benefits toward me, and they are

my “staying factors” in the work of the Lord. Just the thought that I am not going to hell is enough reason for me to go on and stay. Indeed, I thank and praise God that His grace continually sustains me.

I believe that church and ministry are inseparable. I thank God for the church with a leader who encourages the members to grow in the Lord and be able to serve God through a chosen ministry.

I was saved on July 28, 1988, and got into the ministry four months after. I thank God for He counted me “faithful” (although I am not), “…putting me into the ministry.” I have been through some of the various ministries of CBBC. It has been my greatest privilege to be entrusted with such responsi-bilities.

Serving God brought tremendous blessings to my life and to my family. His grace is enabling us to surpass daily crises, while making us enjoy more spiritual advantages. In this life, I have truly perceived and surely rea-lized that serving God is very beneficial to me. What then must I render unto the Lord?

" I wil l declare thy name unto my brethren: in the midst of the congregation wil l I praise thee." P SALM 22:22

Sis. Bely Andigan"But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so

that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God." Acts 20:24

I thank and praise God for His wonderful blessings to me: the precious salvation of my soul; the Bible that fills me with His truth, promises and assurance; the church that strengthens my faith; the deaf ministry that makes my life more meaningful and fruitful; our beloved Pastor who always encourages me to be faithful, dedicated and soul-conscious; my family for their love, support and understanding; my vocation as a full-time worker; my fellow church-workers who always inspire me to love God and to

serve Him wholeheartedly; and the church members for their prayers, moral and financial support, and whose labor and sacrifices are not in vain.

I got saved on December 27, 1987 at the youth camp in Marbel, South Cotabato. I was baptized here in CBBC on June 22, 1992. Thereafter, I enrolled in the Bible School and graduated in 1995 by the grace of God.

In 1994, our Pastor wanted to start a ministry for the deaf, and I was one of those who volunteered to work for them. I thank and praise God for the love and burden He has given me for the deaf people. The ministry for the deaf is very challenging because the deaf have their own language and culture, and few people are able to understand and communicate with them.

In my first three years of ministering to them, I experienced many difficulties, and I thought that I could not stay long with them. However, God always reminded me through preaching and my Bible reading that the deaf people also need Jesus Christ and His word. I then asked God to help me renew my commitment, and so I promised to the Lord that I will continue to minister to them through His might. Now, I am on my 18th year in the said ministry and I praise God for giving me love for them, and for the privilege of teaching and ministering to them.

In March, 1994, our church started with three to seven deaf attendees every Sunday. After 18 years, God has blessed us with more than a hundred deaf church members. Now, our church has a school for our deaf brethren. Some of our deaf graduates are now teaching in our school. To God be the glory for the fruits of this ministry.

My heart’s desire and prayer to God is for our deaf ministry to continue to build lives of godly deaf citizens, and to strive to produce deaf preachers, missionaries and workers.
