Don’t Take Grant for Granted, He’s Here to Win

HOME FURNISHINGS

It’s hard to believe the racing season is quick-ly approaching the half way mark for 2011 at

Five Flags Speedway, and the ‘HOT” days and nights of summer have just begun. Speaking of hot nights, the action at America’s Favorite Home Track just seems to get hotter and better at every event.

Tonight there will be plenty of fireworks on and above the track. The Bryant

Family will treat the number one fans in the world to two fireworks shows.

The first one we will celebrate Independence Day a little ear-

ly and light up the sky with lots of fabulous colors and a lot of loud booms with the annual July 4th Fireworks display.

I kind of have a feeling that the real and most exciting

“sparks” will fly on the fast half-mile surface as the Super Late Models will be in attendance for the Buddy’s Home Furnishings Blizzard series race number 3 sponsored by “PRINT NOW”. Drivers such as Pollard, Enfinger (shown above), Vanderley, Wilson, Carlson, Davidson and a host of others will invade the speedway for a shot at bragging rights and first place money of $4,000.

Look for some new and some familiar faces this time around that you have not seen in 2011.

Female sensation Kenzie Ruston from North Carolina along with Jeff Fultz will be on hand

trying to steal the show. Also look for one of the most liked drivers at the track to be in the action this week trying to leave town with the “loot”. His name is “Baby Face” Chase Elliott.

Can Augie Grill break the tie he holds with Scott Carlson at seven wins apiece in the

Blizzard series and become the series Win-ningest driver since the inception. A lot of fans might think so but don’t count out Scott Carlson just yet. He could easily leave as “King of the Bliz-zard Series”

Let’s close this out with a big ole Get Well Soon Donnie Hamrac, who took a vi-

cious hit in the turn two wall a couple of weeks ago. We miss you man.

Thanks to Deborah Holland for the 3D glasses to add to our enjoyment of tonight’s sky show.

Also an early HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA, land of the free and home of the

brave… thanks to all our military per-sonnel who spend countless hours away from their families to keep us safe.

A $50 gift card is given to the first car hauled off on Fletcher’s Rollback each nite.

Who Would Disqualify Ricky Brooks? Ricky Brooks has been on both sides of tech inspection, as a driver and the chief inspector at various tracks including here at 5 Flags. He has DQed the best, when an infraction was discovered. But has anyone ever DQed Ricky

Brooks?

Yes, twice. Both times Fritz Augustine, a long time tech chief here, (shown on the left) sent Ricky back to his pits following 2 pre-race inspections. Once too high on clearance, once on weight. Brooks’ team fixed the infraction, but both times it nullified his qualifying position, forcing Brooks to start at the rear of the feature field.

So yes, Ricky has been there, done that.

Fast Facts on the Winged Warriors

These are the fastest cars to race here. About 20 drivers from the Tampa Bay area trailer their alcohol powered cars 400 miles to compete. They love the challenge of our banked half mile oval, and love even more the great fan turnout. They will have an autograph session while here for their only appearance this season. Now about the cars, all power. No wasted weight for items like starters and transmis-sions. That’s why they have to be pushed off. Speed, over 120 miles per h o u r ! The wings push the car down to keep it on the track. The tires are different sizes, the largest 22 inches wide.
