The Oklahoma Wheat Commission plans to hold the Oklahoma State 4-H and FFA Junior Wheat show competition. Students and parents can find a copy of the rules with all the requirements for entries to be valid in the June Newsletter Google Folder

titled OK Wheat Show. Please note due to the COVID 19 situation, student workshops that have been traditionally provided by the OSU Plant and Soil Science Department will not be taking place this year in order to follow best management practices for

social distancing. Parents can send samples in the mail to the Payne County Fairgrounds, 4518 Expo Circle East, Stillwater, OK 74075, Attn: 4-H/FFA Wheat Contest. Shipped samples must arrive before Monday, July 20, 2020. If parents, instructors, or stu-dents plan to bring samples in person on Tuesday, July 21st, once samples are received and entered we are going to ask that all

individuals bringing samples exit the building once they are submitted. Visual scores will be posted on the OWC website the following day on Wednesday, July 22nd. In order to be in compliance with OSU policies and practices we have to mitigate risk for

the judges and individuals involved on OSU campus to ensure we are following best management practices for the OSU wheat research team within the agricultural economics and plant and soil science departments no exceptions will be made. Please note samples will start being checked in at 8:00 a.m. and judging will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 21st.

    CFAP Program

If you have Hogs, Cattle, and Sheep (lambs and yearlings only) are eligible please check with the

FSA Office or visit their website to see if you qualify for this program. Show animals are ineligible,

    but commercial/seedstock herds are eligible.

You can call the FSA Office or visit their website https://www.farmers.gov/cfap/livestock

    Horse Show Updates

    1. The state show is still scheduled to go on. Largely that decision will be out of my hands, if extension activities are allowed, and the governor allows a state fair, we are good to go. I do have contingency plans, but I am hopeful they will not be needed.

    2. Qualification for the state show. For 2020 only, we will be waiving the qualification at districts. With the cancellation of shows, this is the only reasonable option. Note, we do not intend to do this in 2021 or the future.

    3. If the state show for some reason must be cancelled (note – it is not cancelled now), we will facilitate an online horse show. For those that wish to pursue their own virtual shows, I’ve enclosed some information on how to do so prepared by colleagues in TX.

    -Dr. Hiney

*I have enclosed the Virtual Horse Show Information in the Google Drive Folder labeled June Newsletter.*

Rabbit Hemorrhagic Diarrhea Virus 2 (RHDV2)

This is a pretty infectious disease with high mortality rates which affects domestic and wild rabbits. As many 4-H’ers are involved with showing rabbits, and there is limited availability for vaccine (per Dr.Hall) enhanced biosecurity is suggested. This does NOT impact human health.

Follow the links to the fact sheets regarding Rabbit Hemorrhagic Diarrhea Virus 2:

    County Record Book Meeting

    Monday August 3rd, 2020 6:30pm Courthouse Basement

We will be having a special record book meeting to discuss the format our county would like to use

from now on. I understand this year was particularly frustrating for many, but I ask that we put this

behind us and work together on a clean slate for the upcoming year. I will have 3 examples of record

books to be discussed at the meeting so that we can do what is best for the Kay County youth. I

would also like to schedule Record Book Workshops and Record Book “Work Days”. They sound the

same but are very different, youth will learn at the Workshops and physically Work on their books

during the “Work Days”. I know this is another evening away from home, but I feel like keeping it

separate from Teen Leader and PLO Meetings will be best so that we can keep our main focus on the

goal of providing the best format for the members to be successful on the State Level. If there is

absolutely no way this date will work for you please email or call me at the office. ~ Liz

Record Book Tips for the Upcoming Year

Write everything down!!!!! Find a blank notebook of some kind and write down everything you do/

did since June 1, 2020 for County Books and April 20, 2020 for State Books. If you think its small

and meaningless still write it down, if you are unsure if it counts...write it down with a question

mark, if you think you know you will remember it...write it down anyways. It is best to sit down once

a week or once every other week to write what you did in your 4-H Notebook/Planner. Please do not

go longer than a month without writing something down. Over a months time span you can forget

or leave off important details such as number of people reached/helped, how much something cost,

or how long you spent volunteering/working on something. All of those details are important for a

good record book. If you have any questions please email or call me at the office. ~Liz

Since 4-H Camp is cancelled I am trying to put a twist on our Back To School Bash, but I would like

everyone’s input before I finalize the schedule. Please fill out the survey using the link below.
