Novice, Junior and Senior members are FREE to participate in as many contests as you would like to learn the basics of a given contest!
Prizes will be given to participants along with a critique of their efforts.

Understanding 4-H Meat Pen Poultry On-Line Fair Entry Deadline—July 15
Meat birds are a Cornish/Plymouth Rock cross bred designed for fast growth. Day old chicks can grow to 5 pounds in 40-55 days.
Meat birds are large fowl and are available from hatcheries across the country as day old chicks. Look for hatcheries close to NM since birds are mailed and delivered to your post office.
Suggested feed: Non-medicated chick starter the first week or two then move to 22-26 % protein meat bird crumble. You will need large feeders and waterers for these birds.
Plan ahead to make sure your chickens don’t miss the 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 pound weight limit for show. If any of your 3 birds for poultry meat pen are under or over weight the pen is
disqualified.
Meat pens must be ALL pullets (female) or ALL cockerels (male) for a pen of 3 for the County Fair.
Only Grand and Reserve Champion are able to sell in the junior livestock sale so exhibitors should be prepared to bring the chickens home to be pro-cessed. This type of chicken grows too fast and will not be able to support their own weight past 7-8 pounds.
