A Word From Pastor Mike This is my final opportunity to write
to you in our church newsletter. On
July 1, I will begin my appointment as
pastor of Crossroads of Faith United
Methodist Church in Bolingbrook and
Gary Waters will become the pastor
here at Cary UMC. I will treasure my
six years of working alongside you in
our shared Christian ministry. Linda
and I have loved living in the parson-
age on the eastern edge of the church
property. We have looked out of our
dining room window each day to see
the beauty of God’s creation during
the various seasons of the year. In the
distance, we notice the church build-
ing where people gather for worship,
learning, celebration, and mission.
Day after day, we have walked up the
hill to join our church family. We will
miss the many friends we have made
here and will continue to hold you in
our hearts and minds, and to lift you
up in our daily prayers.
When someone answers the call
from God to serve as a pastor, it
means that we are saying yes to
great challenges, but also opening
ourselves to an abundance of our
Heavenly Father’s blessings. It has
been a privilege to lead worship and
preach here, to baptize the children
and confirm our youth. It has been a
joy to visit our members in their
homes, hospital rooms and nursing
homes. We have said farewell to
many dears saints of God in funerals
and memorial services. These occa-
sions have been a reminder of the
sacrifice of time, talent and treasure
persons make to our church and the
void that is left with their departure. I
want to say thank you to so many of
our devoted staff and laity for their
commitment and dedication.
As I reflect on our time together, I
am reminded of the words of the
Apostle Paul found in Philippians 1:3-
6: “I thank my God every time I re-
member you, constantly praying with
joy in every one of my prayers for all
of you, because of your sharing in the
gospel from the first day until now. I
am confident of this, that the one who
began a good work among you will
bring it to completion by the day of Je-
sus Christ.”
May God in Christ bless you richly,
Pastor Michael Ray Hickok

Let everything that has
breath praise the Lord.
(Ps. 150)
Forever I will sing the
goodness of the
Lord. (Ps. 89)
“O For a Thousand Tongues", by Charles
Wesley, was written in 1749. It was in-
spired by Peter Bohler who expressed his
spiritual joy saying, "Oh, Brother Wesley,
the Lord has done so much for my life.
Had I a thousand tongues, I would praise
Christ Jesus with every one of them". Wes-
ley was so moved by this statement that he
shared joy and praise and gave us this beau-
tiful hymn.
The opening phrase is, "O for a thou-
sand tongues to sing my great Redeemer's
praise, the glories of my God and King, the
triumphs of His grace". We can make this
our daily prayer as we go about our daily
routines in our church, homes, work, and
schools. Praise God with song, conversa-
tion, and actions. When we sing this in our
worship service, think about this powerful
text. (UMC No. 57.)
You have heard the phrase, "Actions
speak louder than words". How can we
bring this joy to others? "God has given
each of you some special abilities; be sure
to use them to help each other, passing on
to others God's many kinds of blessings. (1
Peter 4:10-11). USE our talents to evange-
lize, guide and help each other. The Bible
tells us that we are all born with distinct
talents and gifts that set us apart from each
other. When you discover the talents that
God has given you and you use them to glo-
rify Him, you will experience a full life!
Our loving Lord wants us to feel whole and
complete, and it is through the talents God
gave us that we can find our unique calling
in life! Encourage yourself and others who
are seeking God's plan for their life. There
are different kinds of service, but the same
Lord. We can be sure, however, that in all
of them, and in everyone, it is the same God
at work. (1 Cor. 12:5-6)
As we move forward together, let us
bring joy to others in peace, love, prayer,
song, words, and actions.
Kathleen Cizewski, Cary UMC Minister
of Music
"The aim and final end of all music should
be none other than
the glory of God and the refreshment of
the soul." JS Bach (1685-1750)

Feed My Starving Children
When: Saturday, June 1 from 2 - 4 pm. We will meet at the church in the Narthex and
caravan to the FMSC site in Libertyville.
Every day, 6,200 children die from starvation but we can make a difference for these
children by volunteering at Feed My Starving Children. FMSC’s volunteer program
offers us the opportunity to share the love of Christ and see firsthand the difference we
can make in response to Christ’s call to feed the
hungry. We will be packing meals that will
be shipped to children that need it.
Congratulations Class of 2019

From the Worship Team
There will be a change to the Sunday morning Worship services for the months of July
and August. Beginning Sunday, July 7 thru Sunday, August 25 there will be
only one service at 9:00 am. Hospitality & Sunday School will be held after the
service. We hope these 8 weeks will continue to renew the spirit of the congregation.
Reverend Gary Waters first service as new pastor will be July 7.
Endowment Team There are many ways and avenues to give financially to your church, besides pledging and/or weekly giving.
Below are two quotes: Endowments open doors to wider mission opportunities. Loren Mead, “Endowed Congregations: Pros and Cons”
Some members are inclined to give an endowment fund, whereas they wouldn’t give to an annual budget; therefore, having an endowment increases overall giving. Dean Hoge, etc. “talk about Churches and Money”.
As we move into the Fall this year, the Endowment Committee will be helping/educating our church members on various ways to give and support CUMC beyond regular pledging.
Some quick examples of those ways are: Charitable Gift Annuities, Charitable Remainder Trusts, Life Estates, Wills / Living Wills, Life Insurance
If you have any questions in the short term concerning these giving opportunities, please feel free to reach out to the Endowment Committee and we will be happy to help you.
Thank you, Mark Peterson Chair
Name Tags
“I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing.” Genesis 12:2
God knows your name, but what about your neighbor sitting
in the pew next to you? Wear your CUMC nametag so you
will be a blessing to those around you!
If you are in need of a nametag, please contact Dawn Ferree.

The VBS Giving Tree is here!
Thanks to all that have supported our VBS by donating items that were placed on our giving tree. For those that want to donate and haven’t had a chance, there are still items on the tree. WE will continue to add items as the need arises. The request slips are hung for you to pull, buy and do-nate items for our 2019 VBS, ROAR. Once you purchase an item, tape the request slip to it and place it in the marked donation bin in the Nar-thex. Gift cards should be given to Holly in the church office. It will be the “MANE” event this Summer!
VBS Registration forms are in the Narthex on the Welcome Center and on the table by the elevator. Online registration is available on the church website at: www.caryumc.org. Please register by June 1st so we can plan our supplies accordingly.

VBS count down is on its’s way! Roar, our VBS is just around the corner begin-
ning on June 17th through June 21st. The children begin their adventure at 2:30
and go to 5:30. Our mission project for this year’s VBS is the Midwest Mission
Distribution Center. The Mission Center has been showing God’s love in practi-
cal ways through the distribution of education, health, micro-business, and disaster
relief supplies meeting basic human needs around the world and around the corner.
The Nurture Team appreciates the positive response we have received in support
of our VBS giving tree. The tree is being done in an effort to offset the costs of
preparing and stocking up for the running of the VBS program .
If you know someone that would like to attend VBS, please give them a sign up
sheet which you can find at the visitor center in the Narthex and by the elevator.
You can also sign up through a link on our website. If you would like to serve at
VBS or have any questions please give me a call 847-639-7627 or send an email to
Help a child get in the word…
We need your help…we are looking for about 6 or 7
$20.00 donations to purchase Spark Bibles. There are
plans to give one out during CUMC’s presence at
Cruise Night in August and we will need some for
our Third Grade Bible Presentation this fall. If you
are willing to help us with this please put your clearly
marked donation in the offering plate or bring it to
the Church office.
Thank you,
Sally Lorenzen
