EDITOR's NOtePOSH CONTINUES TO DELIVER

At POSH, we pride ourselves on delivering results for customers through our focus

on operational excellence and safety. This has enabled us to secure landmark projects amid keen competition, several of which will be executed this year.

Our continual success and strong reputation would not have been possible without the dedication and seamless support of our in-house ship manager, POSH Fleet Services. In this issue, we look behind the scenes to this team of unsung heroes, whose contributions have enabled POSH to become who we are today. At the same time, we celebrate the successful completion of the tow and positioning of the INPEX Ichthys Explorer Central Processing Facility – the world’s largest semi-submersible platform – and examine the technical intricacies of such a massive project.

In line with our strategy to seek key pockets of growth, we extended our footprint in the Middle East through a new joint venture in the United Arab Emirates. We are also pleased to have delivered the first six of the 12 vessels contracted for our Saudi client under our POSH Saudi joint venture.

In the coming months, we look forward to more key projects that we have been appointed for, including the tow and station-keeping of the Shell Prelude Floating Liquid Natural Gas ("FLNG") facility - the largest offshore facility in the world. Our 750-pax POSH Arcadia will be providing accommodation support for the Prelude FLNG; you will see how this semi-submersible accommodation vessel has been meticulously designed to be best-in-class.

Closer to home, our Harbour Services & Emergency Response division shows why its one-stop solution model is a perfect fit for terminal operators. In addition, POSH undertakes a successful salvage mission and we share our views on the emergence of green energy systems for vessel operators.

We hope you enjoy the read.

ssav weathervaning POSH ARCADIA READIES FOR SHELL PRELUDE DEPLOYMENT

Ahead of its deployment for the Shell Prelude FLNG project, our 750-pax Semi-Submersible

Accomodation Vessel ("SSAV") POSH Arcadia was put through its paces at the renowned MARIN simulator in the Netherlands in January 2017. There it underwent the first of its kind real-time simulation to test its ability to stay gangway connected to the weathervaning turret moored Prelude FLNG.

Technip FMC, our client who selected the POSH Arcadia to support the Shell Prelude project, commissioned MARIN to conduct simulation to evaluate POSH Arcadia’s station-keeping capability for the hookup and commissioning phase. In particular, it tested POSH Arcadia’s ability to keep a relative position and remain connected to Prelude FLNG as it rotates 360 degrees.

POSH Arcadia passed with flying colours, exceeding all of the clients’ expectations. It maintained station up to 10 degree per minute FLNG rate of turn and 2.2 kilonewton transom speed, with a lever arm of 500 metre from the centre of the turret. Having cleared the simulation, POSH Arcadia joins sister vessel POSH Xanadu as the two of only a handful of floatels in the world with the technology and available thruster power to follow a weathervaning turret moored asset and stay gangway connected. This valued capability was what had attracted Technip FMC to contract POSH and the POSH Arcadia for the Prelude FLNG project. We look forward to repaying our customer’s trust.

posh fleet servicesEMERGING AS A PROMINENT SHIP MANAGER OF CHOICE

In the maritime industry, having a competent ship manager is integral for ship operators. At POSH, our dedicated in-house ship manager POSH Fleet Services (“PFS”) is a critical enabler to our business.

Over the years, PFS has evolved into a leading ship manager with a distinct reputation for executing complex projects globally. We have worked with oil majors such as Shell, Chevron and BP. With a formidable track record, multiple accolades and more than 100 vessels under management, PFS possesses the capabilities to take on third-party engagements.

HEADS OF DEPARTMENT (FROM LEFT): NG TSE HAI (PURCHASING), TAN SEE LOOK (TECHNICAL), CHAN JOO HUAT (CREWING), SIM HEE PING (PFS DIRECTOR), CAPT PRIYADARSHAN PANDEY (HSEQA), TEO KEONG KOK (TRAINING)

“The benchmark of a quality ship manager is delivering reliable, safe and best-in-class service. Our strong project pipeline for 2017 speaks volumes of the trust customers have in us to do what we do best – deliver results.”

Mr. Sim Hee Ping

Divisional Director

POSH Fleet Services

Our current portfolio of vessels includes Anchor Handling Tug Supply ("AHTS") vessels, Anchor Handling Tugs ("AHT"), Platform Supply Vessels ("PSV"), Multi-purpose Support Vessels ("MPSV"), Offshore Accommodation Vessels, Habour Tugs and Oil Spill Response Vessels. Maintaining these different asset classes requires deep technical expertise and know-how of specific fleet requirements. PFS is well-placed to do so.

2017 is a seminal year for PFS. We will be supporting several back-to-back milestone projects, namely the INPEX Ichthys Explorer Central Processing Facility (“CPF”), INPEX Ichthys Venturer Floating Production Storage and Offloading (“FPSO”) facility, Shell Prelude Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (“FLNG”), and TOTAL Egina FPSO.

Committing to “One Team, One Goal, Zero Harm”, PFS abides by and often

exceeds stringent benchmarks for safety and operations including ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and Offshore Vessel Management and Self-Assessment (“OVMSA“). Central to achieving this are the four core pillars of our operations: Technical Support, Crew Management, Health, Safety, Environment & Quality Assurance (“HSEQA”), and Procurement.

CREWING MANAGEMENTPEOPLE ARE OUR KEY ASSET

The PFS Crew Management department equips crew to execute the job safely and effectively through an extensive

training calendar. With a pool of more than 1,000 crew of different nationalities, we conduct regular seminars focusing on safety and operations, vessel management for our various assets, and soft skills required in the line of work. In 2016, we partnered Shell to roll out the “Safety for Supervisor” course to cultivate a leadership mindset that prioritises safety. We also run “Train the Trainer” courses for senior officers and superintendents to provide effective on-the-job training.

One other mission that POSH has is to ensure a pipeline of future leaders. To that end, we select quality officers and engineers through our Cadetship Programme before identifying and grooming potential Masters and Chief Engineers through our Command Assessment Programme.

TECHNICAL SUPPORTCREATING VALUE THROUGH INNOVATION

As our fleet grows in size, we recognise the importance of driving efficiency through innovation. The Technical

Support department drives many of our differentiated solutions and is highly effective. One key innovation is the proprietary Onboard Lubricating Oil Testing procedure.

Through pre-empting potential machinery failures, this predictive system optimises the draw on limited lubricant supplies on board vessels. This prevents major faults and translates into maintenance savings for clients. In addition, the Technical department regularly lends its expertise to and embarks on joint-innovation projects with institutions such as the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore and The University of Newcastle, Australia.

HSEQAGETTING OUR CREW HOME SAFE, GETTING THE JOB DONE RIGHT

HSEQA department oversees all aspects of operational safety across the Group. Led by Master Mariners who

have worked extensively across various vessel types, PFS developed the comprehensive yet succinct POSH Integrated Management System (“IMS”) for fleet safety - adaptable to any type of vessel. In addition to that, our Floatel vessel has a Safety Case accepted by Australia’s National Offshore Petroleum Safety and Environmental Management Authority (“NOPSEMA”) and our Offshore Accommodation vessel has a Safety Case accepted by Brunei’s Energy Department Prime Minister’s Office (“EDPMO”) – both attesting to our team’s expert abilities.

Captain Priyadarshan Pandey, General Manager for Group HSEQA, said, “My overriding priority is to ensure our crew get home safely to their families. Besides being the right thing to do, safety at sea is also a business imperative as incidents can impact operational deadlines and finances.”

PROCUREMENT WORKING SMART, BUYING SMART

To support an expanding fleet, we have structured PFS to focus on smart sourcing, tendering, and fulfilment.

Our procurement team has global, end-to-end supply chain competencies.

The sizeable scale of our operations means we can extract cost savings through bulk purchases, while our global logistics network ensures goods get delivered on time in good condition to our vessels operating worldwide.

OUR PEOPLE OUR PRIDE

LOOKING FORWARD

PFS has built up a strong reputation because of the competencies residing within each core pillar and the

team working assiduously together. To remain competitive we continually keep abreast of industry developments and invest in our people as our core asset.

Mr. Sim elucidated, “This entails a constant drive to innovate, explore new and better ways to work, and abide by best practices, all the while keeping a laser focus on safety. Through these initiatives, I am confident in PFS’s ability to consistently deliver results and raise the bar for operational excellence even higher.”

PTOPL Delivers the Ichthys ExplorerTOWAGE AND STATION KEEPING OF THE CPF

June 28, 2017 was a memorable day as POSH Terasea Offshore Pte Ltd (“PTOPL”) successfully completed the towage and station-keeping duties for the INPEX Ichthys Explorer Central Processing Facility (“CPF”).

The largest semi-submersible platform ever built, the Ichthys Explorer is the crown jewel of INPEX’s offshore Liquefied Natural Gas (“LNG”) Ichthys project. We are proud to have the successful execution of this milestone project added to our operational credentials.

In this article, we invite you along this historic journey through a closer look at the stories behind the scenes. These include four years of rigorous planning, seamless coordination with multiple stakeholders and the operational intricacies of executing a project of such a scale.

POSH CONQUEST, TERASEA EAGLE, TERASEA HAWK AND POSH CHAMPION TOWING THE CPF FROM SHI SHIPYARD

PLANNING FOR SUCCESS

Preparation work began way back in 2013 upon contract award by Samsung Heavy Industries ("SHI"). Aside from extensive planning to identify and address all potential concerns, PTOPL also made sure to keep at the forefront of ever-changing

requirements in the maritime industry and constantly updated operational procedures to ensure consistent best practice.

Several months before the sailaway, risk assessment and pre-sailaway meetings were organised to brief and align all stakeholders. These four years of detailed and conscientious preparation, backed by strong teamwork and close collaboration with our partners and client created the blueprint of success for the delivery of the Ichthys Explorer.

GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND

To deliver the best services, PTOPL went the extra mile to tailor a one stop solution for our client. We seconded a project engineer to the SHI office, purchased and installed additional equipment, arranged for an Australian riding crew to be on

the CPF during the tow, and among others held the CPF position keeping simulation in the Netherlands.

LEADING UP TO THE SAILAWAY

The sailaway is often a major challenge in any project; there are many interface points including pilots, harbour masters and

port authorities in addition to the limitations of manoeuvring within congested areas. It was more so for the massive Ichthys Explorer.

To have all tugs meet Australian regulatory standards, PTOPL undertook asbestos, noise and vibration surveys for the entire fleet. We worked closely with marine biologists, vessel survey experts, specialist divers and the Maritime Union of Australia to ensure our tugs posed zero risk to the local environment and living conditions on board were of the highest standards for the well-being of the crew. These were in addition to fulfilling all Marine Warranty Survey requirements by keeping all tugs in tip-top shape to undertake the monumental project.

Operationally, bunkers had to be planned in advance to ensure the tugs were sufficiently supplied to undertake the towing and station-keeping phases. On the CPF, towing gears were also provided, installed and checked thoroughly by PTOPL. Leading up to the sailaway, daily meetings were held with all stakeholders and port authorities to ensure everyone was clear on their responsibilities.

When it came to D-Day, our project team executed a seamless sailaway departing the SHI Shipyard for the Browse Basin off Australia.

Ichthys explorerThe largest semi-submersible platform in the world, the Ichthys Explorer weighs 120,000 metric tons and the topside measures 130m by 120m. The Ichthys Explorer is expected to process subsea gas condensates from within a 130-kilometre network of subsea well infrastructure to produce 8.4 million tonnes of condensate annually. The condensates will be distributed onshore for local use in Australia, or offshore to the Ichthys Venturer floating production storage and offloading (“FPSO”) unit to be exported.

EXECUTING THE 5,600 KM TOW

With a hull 110 metres long by 110 metres wide that displaces 150,000 tonnes, the sheer size of the Ichthys Explorer required a unique configuration of five units of 200 Tonne Bollard Pull (“TBP”) tugs. Terasea Eagle and Terasea Hawk

formed the centre tugs with POSH Champion and POSH Conquest on the port and starboard bridles, while POSH Commander escorted the convoy and served a double role as contingency first responder.

The voyage took 34 days at an average speed of 3.98 knots. All went according to plan, including a challenging port of call at Dili, Timor Leste for crew change and bunker top-up. To manage this segment, the project team was re-positioned to Dili to ensure that the operation was managed safely and efficiently.

STATION-KEEPING AT BROWSE BASIN

After the smooth towage, PTOPL embarked on the next phase of positioning the CPF for the mooring hook up. This required the joint effort of PTOPL and engineering consultants, Aqualis Offshore. We had two Masters on

each tug for the 24-hour continuous operations, and five positioning Masters on board the CPF during this phase.

Connected to pre-rigged positioning lines at each corner of the CPF, the tugs towed the CPF to its final location and kept it in position within the excursion zone limits. Thereafter 28 mooring lines were hooked up to the Ichthys Explorer that will anchor it for the next 40 years in 250 metres of water.

THE NEXT CHAPTER

As the last mooring line was hooked up and the tugs reeled in their towing gears, so ends our chapter with the Ichthys Explorer. The years of preparation paid off as the CPF was delivered and moored at the Ichthys field

incident-free.

With the job done successfully and safely, we now look forward to the next instalment in this milestone project for the oil and gas industry when we tow the INPEX Venturer FPSO to the Ichthys field.

ONE-STOP MARINE SERVICES FOR TERMINALSHSER HIGHLIGHTS ITS UNIQUE SERVICES

One of the busiest ports in the world, Singapore sees an average traffic of 1,100 vessels

daily. These vessels can call at port for various reasons: cargo operations, taking bunkers and supplies, ship repair and surveys, crew changes to anchorage work and so on. What they all have in common is a need for safe and effective harbour services management.

At POSH, we understand that delays or incidents are detrimental to Singapore’s reputation as a leading port of call and on businesses that rely on our port. That is why our Harbour Services & Emergency Response (“HSER”) division stands apart in being able to provide one-stop solutions for terminal operators.

In the past, terminal operators would have to identify and work with different vendors for required services such as harbour towage, personnel transfers, diving services, fire fighting and oil spill prevention. This puts a strain on a terminal's internal resources that could have been deployed more effectively.

Our HSER division addresses this pain point through catering to the full array of services required. POSH is among a selected handful of operators to be awarded a public towage license by the Maritime Port Authority of Singapore. With three bases in Singapore waters, mobilisation to any of the terminals takes us just one hour on average and our dynamic and versatile fleet of harbour tugs can adapt to the constantly changing vessel schedules.

Meanwhile, our emergency response and salvage team, with its well-honed crew and specialised equipment, are stationed at these three bases round-the-clock, ready to respond to any emergency needs in the port and its approaches.

Apart from our integrated approach and guaranteed 24/7 services, our customers also appreciate our flexibility in tweaking and bundling together solutions that are customised to their requirements. This is why they continue to entrust us with their needs. Moving forward, as more terminals across the region seek to streamline their operations, integrated solution providers like POSH are critical enablers.

POSH recovers the alam manisSEMCO SALVAGE & TOWAGE REFLOATS BULK CARRIER OFF SEYCHELLES ISLANDS

On the evening of February 2, 2017, Alam Manis ran aground in the sandy shallows of Saya De Malha Bank,

off Seychelles Islands while on her voyage from Richards Bay, South Africa to Pipavav, India. Fortunately, no crew was injured. However, reports of an oncoming tropical cyclone raised concerns for the safety of the crew.

Semco Salvage & Towage Private Limited (“SSTPL”) was engaged by Manis Shipping, owner of the Alam Manis, to refloat her immediately and Anchor Handling Tug Supply ("AHTS") vessel POSH Virtue was rapidly deployed to the location.

On site, SSTPL worked with Manis Shipping’s crisis management team to coordinate the operation. At the same time, POSH Virtue executed hydrographic surveys on the surrounding sandy shallow waters, mapping out the egress route while the salvage team carried out underwater inspection and preparations for the refloating operation.

With good weather conditions and a favourable high tide, Alam Manis was successfully refloated without losing any cargo or causing any damage to the environment on the morning of February 11, 2017. POSH Virtue then towed Alam Manis out of the shallow water maze. This was followed by a final underwater inspection by our salvage team before she finally resumed her voyage to Pipapav, India.

It's TGIF @ Beast & Butterflies !!! POSH joined its parent company, Kuok Singapore Ltd (“KSL”) for a bonding event on May 26, 2017. The event involved

employees from across KSL's maritime entities including Pacific Carrier Ltd, PACC Container Lines, PaxOcean Shipyard, and the POSH Group. It was a platform to share business updates and ideas and foster cross-business synergies, and a time for POSH employees to catch up with their counterparts from within the KSL Group. Over live band performances, as well as food and drinks, an enjoyable time was had by all in attendance, with experiences and knowledge exchanged, and deeper camaraderie developed across the KSL Group.

technology for sustainable shippingTHE USE OF SOLAR AND WIND POWER FOR LOW EMISSION SHIPPING ó

Sustainability is not just a buz-zword. Across the world, regula-tors are increasingly focusing their

attention on sustainable shipping. It is also the logical way forward for busi-nesses, allowing them to reap commer-cial benefits, improve their competitive position and deliver long-term viability. Many innovative technologies and products have been developed to meet this growing demand for “greener” shipping operations. These range from enhancements in paint technology to improvements to thermal efficiencies for ship machinery and hybrid electric power and propulsion systems. In this article, we look at renewable energy solutions, specifically the use of solar and wind power. Powering Marine Systems with So-lar EnergySolar energy can and is being used on ships to complement fossil fuel usage and reduce carbon footprint. For ex-ample, the 328 solar panels on board the MV Auriga Leader, the world's first solar powered cargo ship, help to pro-vide up to 10% of its power. While im-plementing solar energy solutions will initially be capital intensive, they can result in greater savings compared to using diesel over the longer term. Marine solar power systems come in various sizes and can be installed on

large ships such as car carriers, bulkers and oil tankers, as well as smaller ships such as offshore support vessels, com-muter ferries and recreational vessels. The extent to which solar power can complement fossil fuel usage is pri-marily determined by space and weight restrictions. Smaller vessels such as offshore support vessels, where space is at a premium and can require more energy than their larger counterparts, could find it especially hard to adopt solar power solutions. The key to high-er take-up across the board is there-fore to ensure optimal design that drives maximum efficiency. Tapping the Wind to Power ShipsThe use of sails is not a new concept. However, they are experiencing some-what of a renaissance as an increas-ing emphasis on mitigating climate change has led to renewed interest in harnessing wind power to propel commercial vessels. Through the use of sophisticated technology and com-puter controls, the traditional sail has been much improved upon as a viable source of energy. Experts believe that if utilised correctly, wind power can generate fuel savings of up to 50%. The most efficient sails on the mar-ket now are rigid sails, which work on Bernoulli’s principle (each rigid sail cross-section profile is designed in an aerofoil shape to facilitate maximum

thrust). Using wind director sensors, these sails align with the prevailing wind direction to derive maximum power. An Integrated ApproachOne other innovation is an integrated wind and solar energy solution, where rigid sails are implemented along with marine-grade solar panels. This tech-nology has been tested on smaller vessels and its effectiveness on larger commercial vessels is being studied. As much as 15-20% of the power required to propel a ship could be provided by such an integrated system.

Advancements have been made in the development and commercial applica-tion of solar and wind power over the past few years, which are encouraging. We do however need to recognise that we are still at the nascent stage – where renewable energy sources are at best a minor and still-expensive supplement to help reduce carbon footprint rather than viable alternatives or joint energy sources. But the mistake would be to accept this status quo; to truly protect our seas and ensure our viability over the longer-term, companies have to step up to embrace these innovations and take a leading position in calling for their continued improvement.

Did you know ?UNMANNED SHIPS BY 2020Imagine a ship out at sea without a single sailor on board. Equipped with infrared detectors, laser sensors and high-resolution cameras to monitor surroundings, unmanned ships are heralding a change in the way shipping companies operate.

Shipping companies are embracing this change as it is likely to lead to optimisation of ship use and cost cutting. However, despite the potential benefits, automated shipping faces barriers in the form of safety regulations, security issues and limited bandwidth in terms of the ability to transfer large amounts of data from ship to shore.

Nevertheless, a transport revolution in the shipping industry is taking shape and the phrase “all hands on deck” could soon become obsolete.
