JUNE 2016
June always brings such excitement and sad-
ness at the same time.
In the month of June we celebrate the wonder-
ful things we have learned and accomplished
as a student, a class, a staff , a school, and a
community. We all have so much to celebrate
and be proud of.
But, June also brings about change which can
be sad. In June our Grade 8s graduate and
prepare to move on to high school. Although
we are sad to see them go we are also excited
about what lies ahead for them.
We also have some staff that will be leaving us
and moving on to other adventures. After
many years of teaching, Mrs. Vanderwater will
be retiring at the end of the year. We all wish
her the best as she begins a new chapter of her
life. Mrs. O’Connor will be changing schools in
the fall. She will be working closer to home at
Parnall Public School and Lincoln Centennial
Public School. We wish her all of the best and
know she will be a welcomed addition to both
of the schools.
Ms N. Robinson will be off traveling from Sep-
tember until December. While she is away we
will have a Long Term Occasional Teacher fill-
ing in. We can’t wait to hear all about her
adventures when she returns in January.
We welcome Mrs. P. Robinson to the Orchard
Park team. She is very excited to meet every-
one here. We also welcome Mrs. Adam who
will be joining us as our new Learning Resource
Teacher. She is looking forward to working
with everyone at Orchard Park.
During this month, time has been spent begin-
ning the organization of classes for the new
school year. Decisions are based on a variety
of factors including providing for a good gen-
der, personality, interest and ability mix. The
“primary class size cap” is also an important
factor which will delay our final class place-
ment decision-making until late August. How-
ever, here is our predicted DRAFT school or-
ganization for September 2016 given our cur-
rent enrolment:
Kdg - Ms Bigford and Mrs. Quiring
Kdg - Miss DiLibero and Ms Lambourne
Gr. 1 - Ms Prodger
Gr. 1/2 - Mrs. Child
Gr. 2/3 - Mrs. Anderson
Gr. 3 - Ms Pavone
Gr. 3 - Mrs. Vigna
Gr. 4 - Mrs. Glauser
Gr. 4/5 - Mrs. P. Robinson

Gr. 6/7 - Mr. Mabee
Gr. 7/8 - Ms N. Robinson
Gr. 7/8 - Mr. Ott

**Please note, this organization is subject to
change should our enrolment or staffing change
in the fall.

able on the first day of

VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION
BEFORE AND AFTERSCHOOL DAYCARE
Orchard Park is very fortunate to have
wonderful volunteers that help in so many
ways. A volunteer may feel that their
contribution is small, but the staff and stu-
dents know that is not the case. As a to-
ken of our appreciation, a donation to
Woodend - Living Campus was made in
recognition of the Orchard Park Volun-
teers. Please know
that your contribu-
tion to our school is
greatly appreci-
ated and we thank
you from the bot-
tom of our hearts!!
The YMCA of Niagara is pleased to offer licensed before and after school child care at Orchard Park School in Sep-
tember of 2016. This site will be a shared site for students from Orchard Park, Martha Cullimore, Prince Phillip, Victo-ria and John Marshall schools for before and/or after school child care arrange-ments. Parents may register children to the age of 12 years for before school care, which opens at 7:00 a.m., and/or after school care available to 6:00 p.m. Fee sub-
sidy is available to eligible families.
Stimulating and fun learning experiences are offered to enhance your child’s social, intellectual, physical and emotional development. Programs are based on the
YMCA values of caring, honesty, responsibility, respect, inclusiveness and health.
The YMCA will contact parents who have previously submitted interest on the inten-tion form through the school. Parents who have not filled out the form, may go on the Region’s wait list, www.niagara.onehsn.com and enter information on the YMCA Child Care - Orchard Park lists. If you have questions, please contact the YMCA at
905-646-9622. Further details will be sent home as information becomes available.
A BIG Thank You to the staff,
students and parents. You
helped in so many different
ways to make this school such
a wonderful place to be. We
are lucky to have such a
GREAT team to work with
EVERY day!!!
SCHOOL VANDALISM
If you notice
any unusual
activity at our
school, please
call either of
the following emergency
numbers: 905-682-8065 or
905-563-1293. Also, if you
ever notice children on the
roof, please contact Niagara
Regional Police immediately
as this is extremely unsafe
and those engaging in this
behavior are trespassing on
DSBN property. We appre-
ciate your assistance with
these matters because graf-
fiti and other damage can
be very costly to remove or
repair. Thank you!
Please ensure ALL library
books are returned before
the last day of school. Late
notices will be sent home as
reminders for students.

PRIMARY ARTS WEEK CELEBRATION THIS FALL!
We know with summer vacation rapidly approaching that it is hard to think
about school in the fall, but we have some exciting news that just can’t wait!!
In the fall of 2016, our Kdg to Grade 3 students will be having an “Arts
Week Celebration”! For one whole week, our primary students will have visits
from local artists in Dance, Drama, Music and Visual Arts culminating in an
Open House Arts Café to share what our students learned and made with our
family and friends!
This even is taking place part thanks to generous support from Orchard
Park’s School Council and a fundraising campaign underway on the “My
Class Needs” website. If you would like to share the link and/or contribute to
our Arts Week campaign, please go to:

Thanks for your on-going support...this is going to be a great event!

about how you can help out,
please contact Melissa
As the year comes to a close,
we want to thank all the par-
ents who have volunteered
their time in different ways
to help accomplish great
things at Orchard Park! Be-
cause of your dedication and
commitment we were able to
achieve much and upgrade
many things for our children

fund most of the cost of the
“Pink Shirts”, put money to-
wards the school play, host
the cake reception, help out
with the Young Author’s Day

teachers some money to use
in their classrooms, pur-

On Monday, August 22, 2016 Niagara Student Transportation
Services (NSTS) will post specific back-to- school transportation
arrangements for each student enrolled at the school.
Please visit www.nsts.ca and sign-in to the secure parent portal
to get your child’s student transportation information. To sign-in to
the portal you will need your child’s Ontario Education Number
(OEN) which can be found on their report card. While you are
there, please subscribe to the delay and cancellation module for
direct and timely emails regarding student transportation that im-
pacts your child.
Changes to home, pick-up and/or drop-off addresses must be
made through your child’s school. During the summer you may no-
tify NSTS of address changes so a bus stop is available for your
child to start the school year, however, NSTS is not authorized to
change student address information.
With the availability of the secure parent portal, NSTS will not
mail student transportation notices with the exception of Kindergar-
ten students or new students to the system who do not have an
OEN to sign-in to the portal.
Please contact your school or NSTS if you
have questions regarding your child’s trans-
portation arrangements.
