CHURCH ORGAN PROJECT 2014

As you read in the last months newsletter, Palm Sunday, April 13, was the debut of the Virtual Organist, which means that we no longer have to have a live person playing every week for the worship service.

Working each week with the company, Church Music Solutions, located in Collinsville, Illinois, we send them our choice of music for the service and they have one of their professional organist prepare/play the music, in the order of the service. They then send it to us on line, to our iPad, which is then plugged into the organ.

AND with a simple touch of the play tab, the music comes through the organ pipes, filling the sanctuary with music that was produced just for us, to play on our organ, to help us all sing as we worship.

The music is designed to lead the singing, thus it contains spaces to allow breathing, reading along, and participating! It is a known fact that well-played worship music actually helps members feel confident in singing along.

We all are appreciative of those whodonated to the fund to cover the cost of the installation of the Virtual Organist

equipment. These include Jill Pittman, who donated her mother, Thelma Rose Trimmell’s Memorial Fund; Inabell Peters, who donated her husband, John Peters’ Memorial Fund; Dan Brown Family, Fred Bloom Family, Lester Caldwell Family, The Darnell Family, The Zainali Family, Cathy Buddenhagen, and Leon Onions. Mary Lambert purchased and donated the required iPad.

It has been a while since we have had organ music on a regular basis. Pipe organs arebuilt specifically for the building that they’re housed in, and the volume is relative to the size and acoustics of our sanctuary. This is true of our organ. It is significantly louder and more robust than a piano or a sound system. That’s the nature of the instrument. It’s simply how pipe organs sound, in any church.

The fact that we have several of our pipes exposed, those pipes are naturally loader than the ones that are hid behind the front wall. We have visited with the person who tunes and repairs our organ. The next time he comes he will see if he can adjust some of the pipes to tone the sound down.

In the meanwhile, it is suggested that if the music is too loud in the area where you are setting, that you might want to consider

setting in a different area of the sanctuary. We want each person to be comfortable with the volume of the music and to becomfortable with the service.

The Pre-School graduation was a wonderful program. Rose Ramirez and her aids (Vanessa Marquez & Jaclyn Ramirez) did a good job, the children sang and danced for us. Then the children received their certificates and Diplomas! Good time for all who attended. The sanctuary was decorated in a graduation theme and art work of the Pre-School class hung on the brick wall of the sanctuary.

Mary Lambert has been doing the music with the organ on Sunday morning in May.Thank you Mary for your dedication to our Church!

If anyone has an article for the July Prairie Light Newsletter, please turn in by June 23rd.

Have a wonderful month! Cathy

“A Peek At Pentecost”Sunday, June 8, 2014

Pentecost Offering “I will sing praises to my God all my life long.” Psalm 146:2 (RSV)

What’s the Pentecost Offering?

Each year on Pentecost Sunday (June 8 this year) we still celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit as a “Bringer” of new life! With the Spirit’s coming, we no longer need to settle for “business as usual” but can know the “transforming, redeeming love of God” that makes the impossible possible!

The Pentecost Offering is one of the four Special Offerings of the Presbyterian Church, (U.S.A.). When we give to the Pentecost Offering during Sunday morning worship, we help bring God’s “transforming, redeeming love” to children at risk, guide & nurture young people’s growing faith, & provide for opportunities for young adults to become spiritual leaders – all in the Name of Jesus Christ! So, this Offering is all about our young people!

First Presbyterian Church Pre-School and

Day Care Center“And the greatest of these is love.”

The First Presbyterian Child Care Center and Preschool had a graduation ceremony on May 16th for 10 graduates and 10 participants. This was followed by refreshments. The children and staff wish to thank those who came to cheer them on and help with the program!

June will be different for all of us. The older children will be here all day this summer which means figuring out how schedules and routines will work. Every class will participate in the Memorial Library summer reading program.

We hope to have other ideas and special events that will keep the children engaged all summer.

If you have any ideas or would like to come with a presentation please contact Miss Rose or Miss Becky at 624-1616.

Thank you, staff, for all the time and energy you give to these children.
