The Shepherd’s Call Newsletter of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, Sun Prairie, Wisconsin “To Restore All People to Unity with God and Each Other in Christ”
BC Buzz Submitted by Lisa Nesson
The Church community and the Bishop’s Committee has been pretty busy this past
month with several projects and fundraising events. We would like to thank everyone
who has pitched in to help with the various events both as volunteers and as partici-
pants. It couldn’t all be done without the help of our church community.
As a recap, let’s start with Good Shepherd’s Spring Garage Sale that was held the last
weekend of April. It was a great success with lots of bargains to be found by all. The
proceeds have helped to offset some of the church bills, and we appreciate the chance
it afforded us to interact with the neighborhood.
Good Shepherd has also partnered with the Sun Prairie Boys and Girls Club for the sum-
mer of 2014. This organization will be utilizing our church space, indoors and outdoors,
for the summer during the work week. We think this is a great opportunity for the
Church to get involved with the community while being reimbursed for the space.
The Inaugural Sunshine Ball, held on Saturday, May 3rd, to benefit Sunshine Place, was
a huge success! While we did not reach our goal of $25,000.00 for Sunshine Place, we
did have 200 tickets sold, and we raised approximately $15,000.00 to benefit this im-
portant charity in Sun Prairie. This event is off to a tremendous start, and the planning
has begun for the 2015 event. A huge Thank You to Shirley Forester, Mary Deininger,
and the Sunshine Ball committee for bringing this idea to life! We all look forward to
next year’s event!
Finally, but certainly not least, we are all looking forward to the Kick Off of the Capital
Campaign for Good Shepherd. It has been decided, based on the recent feasibility
study, that we will be moving forward with this campaign. The committee will be work-
ing through the summer on the organization of this project, and it will kick off in the
fall. We appreciate everyone who responded to the survey . We had the largest re-
sponse that the organizers have ever seen – Congratulations to Good Shepherd! Let’s
keep the momentum going forward with this important event that will allow us to re-
tire the Church’s debt and let us become financially independent from the Diocese.
As always, please feel free to contact any of the Bishop’s Committee members with any
questions, concerns or ideas you may have regarding Good Shepherd Episcopal Church.

Praise in the Prairie 2014
Many of you have been asking and we are super excited to announce that we have the Sign Up Link ready for
Praise in the Prairie 2014! If you are interested in volunteering for this FUN event on June 14th, please go to the
link below to see what areas are available and to sign up. Most volunteer time slots are only 2 hours, but if
you'd like to help out longer we would be thrilled!

A friendly reminder that all volunteers will be given a free t-shirt to wear the day of the event, a meal while vol-
unteering and the opportunity to meet new friends while making a huge difference in our community. This all-
day Christian music festival will raise awareness of the homeless situation in Sun Prairie, help Shelter From The
Storm Ministries raise the funds to build a much needed multi-family shelter and unite the community! If
you or someone you know is a business owner or artist, would you consider having a booth at our event? Please
reply to this email and we will send you more information. We are so excited to get to know you better and
work side-by-side with you as we help to make a difference in our community! And please pass this email on to
anyone you know who would be interested as well!

Junio 2014
Blessed Summer Good Shepherd,
Summer in Wisconsin is hard earned by surviving our winters, especially this winter. Even the spring felt a little
winterish to me this year. Slowly the nice weather comes out and shows its face. The long winters take their
toll on body, mind and soul, but they do, I believe, make us a hearty stock that appreciates the warmth, the
color, and the festiveness of summer. Summer gives us time to refill our tanks and to reconnect with neighbors
and friends. I know in our neighborhood that we go for months without saying a word to our neighbors all win-
ter. As the weather gets nicer, our kids start to play more outside with each other, and we stop to catch up with
each other and to invite each other to meals and gatherings.
Summer for Good Shepherd will also be a time of refreshing and renewing, but also a time of planning and pre-
paring. Our leadership team has spent significant time over the last several weeks with our consultant, Erin
Weber-Johnson. She has been very impressed with our leadership and our hard work. You really have done an
amazing job, Good Shepherd, with all the hard work as a church family on all our projects and especially on the
capital campaign.
We also finished another successful year of Sunday school and Christian Education. Thanks to Laura Adams and
all the Christian Education teachers for all your love and devotion to teaching our kids and adults about God’s
word and God’s love. Congratulations to our Church development teams for completing their cycle and espe-
cially to Shirley Foerster and Heidi Tess who graduated this year.
This week is the wrap up meeting for our inaugural Sunshine Ball. This was a huge undertaking for us. Congratu-
lations to Shirley Forester and Mary Deininger, the co chairs, Peter Curran, the Executive Director of Sunshine
Place, and the Sunshine Ball committee. It was a fabulous event and many people spent long hours making it
happen. God bless all our sponsors, but especially Market Street Diner, Brian at B’s Jewlery, and the bank of
Sun Prairie for going above and beyond. This event was a huge plus for us in many ways, but most importantly
for me, it showed Sun Prairie that a little white church on the corner could make a big difference to our com-
munity and to help Sun Prairie to be the special place we are so proud to live in.
The summer will bring a lot opportunities for education, for hanging out, for praying together, and for having
fun. God bless all the energy you give to make Good Shepherd the coolest church on the planet. Enjoy the nice
weather, and give thanks to those who serve our country as we celebrate the official start of summer this Me-
morial Day.
God bless,
Father Mike
