 ArticlesFancy Some Green Exercise

The media have made it clear thatregular exercise has great benefitsfor people’s health regardless of their age. Furthermore, that it

should become part of everyone’s life. The lists of

benefits are endless; however at the forefront isthe prevention or minimization of developingcardiovascular disease (heart attacks, high bloodpressure), osteoarthritis, cancer and obesity.Nevertheless when you mention the wordexercise to someone they immediately think of endless hours spent in the gym. As a fellow gymgoer and exercise enthusiast, I get it; Ioccasionally get bored of the gym. The mainproblem I contend with, particularly with cardio is Iend up staring at the same bit of wall and begin tocount down the minutes till I can stop. But youdon’t need to spend every single workout in thegym. It has been proven that exercising outside or green exercise as it is being called nowadays hassurplus benefits compared to the gym.If you exercise such as walk or run through town, along a river or in a park you will experiencegreater mental benefits. Fact! A stint outdoors willgive you an additional reduction with your levelsof tension, anxiety, stress, anger and boost your self-esteem compared to exercising indoors.Winner all round. Granted, maybe not so much

when you go for a run and it is chucking it downwith rain so you end up heading home looking likea drowned rat. Got a lake, pond or river near you?Try and incorporate a walk or something near itas it has a calming effect upon you which youmight not even be aware of. If you plan to dosome exercise, maybe pop outside and reap thebonus benefits. What would you rather do, watchthe same music videos on the gym TV or enjoysome green exercise? Worried about peoplestaring at you whilst you stretch in the park?Ignore them; you are the one undertaking a

healthy and active lifestyle, which is nothing to beembarrassed about.

How To Be Kind To Yourself WhenTimes Are Difficult. By Pavlenka Small

Is life so busy that you just don’t havetime to spend a few minutes to take inyour surroundings? Perhaps you feellike that hamster on a wheel-spinning

round and round and would like to getoff, if only for just a few minutes! If you lead anextremely busy life and hectic lifestyle, here are afew ways in which you can make more time for yourself.Focus on your priorities. In order to have theright balance in your life, it is essential youconsider what is most important - decide what youwant to achieve without setting yourself unrealistic deadlines.Differentiate between what ‘must’ be doneand ‘needs’ to be done. WHO is telling you what

needs to be achieved? Put your tasks into anhonest perspective and ask yourself what is theworst thing that can happen if it doesn’t get done. Say it as it is. Do you know what messagesyou give out to people around you? Do youaccept offers of help when everything is gettingtoo much to cope with or do you decline and sayyou are fine? (By the way FINE stands for FeelingInsecure, Neurotic and Exhausted!)Be your own best friend. Good friends supportyou through thick and thin rather than criticise you.

They don’t shame you but encourage you to learnfrom them and move on. So when you start tocriticise yourself, ask yourself what you wouldwant your best friend to say or do, then do it.You deserve more than you think you do. Doyou recognise your own self worth? How often doyou put your dreams, wishes and desires at thebottom of the pile behind your partner, children, parents and work colleagues? Tell yourself youdeserve some regular time to yourself and thenmake it happen. Is the grass really greener on the other side?

Sometimes we are never content with what wehave. We often set ourselves ridiculously highexpectations and we don’t reach them becausewe become disappointed and frustrated. So adjust your expectations of happiness, focuson being more content with what you have andwho you are and don’t forget to spend a little timeto enjoy watching the changing of the seasonsaround you! Useful Information

Simpler Income Tax for SmallBusinessesHMRC has introduced two simpler income taxschemes for small businesses – ‘Cash Basis’ and‘Simplified Expenses’ – which are designed tomake it easier for small businesses to do their income tax, and provide them with greater certainty that they have got their tax right. For the2013-14 tax year onwards, this means that:Small, unincorporated businesses withincome that does not exceed the VAT registrationthreshold (currently £79,000 per annum) canchoose to be taxed on the money that actuallyflows into and out of their business (the CashBasis), rather than using normal accounting rules. This means that these businesses will avoid theneed to make year-end adjustments, required

under current rules that were designed for morecomplex businesses. All unincorporated businesses can choose touse fixed rates (Simplified Expenses) to work outwhat they can claim for some common types of business expenses where there is a mix of business and private use. Until now, businesseshave had to work out the actual amounts thatrelated to business use. Three types of expensesare covered:1 Motoring expenses – businesses will beable to claim a standard mileage allowance based

on the number of business miles travelled duringthe year.2 Expenses relating to business use of home – businesses can claim a flat rate based onhours spent conducting business activities fromhome.3 Adjustments for private use of businesspremises – a flat rate can be used for the privateuse portion of costs where someone lives at their business premises (e.g. a bed and breakfastestablishment).Cash Basis and the Simplified Expenses are

entirely optional, and businesses will beencouraged to choose any or all of the schemeswhich best suit their needs.
