1 FAT FENDER FLASH THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER FOR FORD F-100 ELITE OF NORTHERN CALIFORNIA June 2013 ============================================================================== EAST BAY BANTER By: Ken Rogers Hi From East Bay The 4 th of May we had members truck to the Silicon Valley Cruise. Great weather and a good turnout for an enjoyable day. The highlight was the lunch served at Frankie, Johnnie, & Luigi Too Italian restaurant. There was plenty of food served to the hungry folks. Good run Silicon Valley! If you missed this run you’ll want to plan on it for next year. Congratulations to East Bay member, Robert Martinez, for winning one of the awards for his neat F-100. May 11 th we had members of our chapter and Livermore Chapter truck to Niles for their show. There was a good turnout for a relaxing day in Old Town Niles. We always enjoy this show. On May 18 th we had members truck to the Classic Cruisers USA car show in Newark. There was a good selection of rods, trucks, and customs at this show for a well planned event. All registered vehicles received a free breakfast at Dino’s Restaurant, a supporter of this club. East Bay member Wally Wallace received a nice award at this show. We are looking forward to Crusin’ The Grove in Stockton on June 2 nd . If you missed this event last year, fire up your F-100 and cruise to Oak Grove Regional Park for a good show. We enjoyed this event last year. Did you check out Street Trucks, and True Blue Trucks magazines? Both had neat articles, in their April issues, on last year’s North-South Run. That’s good exposure for our club. Are you planning to go this year? Sure hope so. June will be a busy month for our chapter. TRIVIA Last month’s question: What was the ‘Sea Hunt’ like show about divers in Southern California that included actor Ron

Ely, who later played ‘Tarzan’ in the movies? What was his character’s name?

Answer: Hi Jim, This wasn't an easy one... Lots of research of the different shows.... Well, I finally found it within an hour after seeing the email... The Show was called "The Aquanauts" and the character's name Ron Ely played was "Mike Madison". I hope this is right. Susan Davis, Modesto This month’s question: What child star, of what classic 50’s show, showed up for his original audition in his Cub Scout

uniform?

Modesto Happenings

The Matthew Preston Benefit Car Show was a great success! Over 150 entrants showed up on April 28th at the Fruit Yard. Matthew’s Mom Sandy, and aunt Gwen Schmitt, along with numerous friends and relatives, did all of the pre-show work and contributed greatly on the day of the event. The F-100’s work in running of the show went smoothly thanks to them. The weather was great, the raffle was plentiful, the trophies were abundant, and the participants were generous! The net was over $11,300, which will be used to provide life-saving medical procedures that otherwise could not have been afforded. The check was written directly to the doctor for Matthew’s benefit. Our very best wishes to Matthew on his upcoming surgery.

John turned “60” (watch out AARP) on the day after the Preston Show, but looks like he’s still a kid at heart. The newly completed mini-lizzie made its debut at the Show and was a hit with everyone and lived up to its reputation for speed.

Who’s Working on What The paint job is finished on John Walsh’s truck – it looks great! He won a trophy at the Mathew Preston show – looks like all that hard work has paid off! If you want to see it in person, come out to our Back to Graffiti Show at the Fruit Yard on June 14-15.

Tom Day’s ‘29-‘30-’31 pickup engine was featured in last July’s Fat Fender --- now you can see he’s moving right along on it. Looking better all the time and can’t wait to see it when it’s like the original scale model!

We hope that all you Mother’s out there had a great Mother’s day, and that your sons or daughters did something special for you. I know my son did. Next month is your special day Dad’s so do not worry I am sure they will do something special for you too. May has been a busy month as we are finalizing our plans for Crusin the Grove. We hope that you have made plans for coming as it’s looking good at this time and place. We have found time to visit some great shows to pass out flyers. May 4 was one of them. We hit the show in Tracy first and passed out half of our flyers (over 250) then ran up to Copperopolis and passed out over 250 more. It would be nice to know how many people actually own custom cars (like a census). With more than one car show that goes on in any given weekend. It just would be kind of neat to know how many are actually out there in the state or even the United States. It is great to see all these great vehicles still going strong and those that survived. May 19th was the annual All Ford Picnic at Micke Grove Park. Art had a chance to go out and check out the vehicles. There seemed to be more than last year. Our friends at CVC were able to join him in the fun. It was a great weekend. Hope that everyone had a great Memorial Day, the day we remember all those people that have fought for our freedom either with their hearts and souls or their lives. Take care and we will see everyone soon.

******************************************************************************* A guy was driving when a policeman pulled him over. He rolled down his window and said to the

officer, “Is there a problem, Officer?” “No problem at all. I just observed your safe driving and am pleased to award

you a $5,000 Safe Driver Award. Congratulations. What do you think you’re going to do with the money?” The

driver thought for a minute and said, “Well, I guess I’ll go get that drivers’ license.” The lady sitting in the

passenger seat said to the policeman, “Oh, don’t pay attention to him – he’s a smart arse when he’s drunk and

stoned.” The guy from the back seat said, “I TOLD you guys we wouldn’t get far in a stolen car!” At that moment,

there was a knock from the trunk and a muffled voice said, “Are we over the border yet?”
