“The Church leads people brought

into unity in the unity of the Father,

the Son and the Holy Spirit,” is an

extension of the mystery of the incar-

nation and of the Kingdom of God

inaugurated by Jesus Christ on earth

and brought about by the mission giv-

en to the Apostles (Mt 28:18--20), for

proclaiming and estab-

lishing, among all peo-

ples, the Kingdom of

God. The church slowly

grows to its maturity, and

longs for the completed

Kingdom. The Church

through her presence and

mission in the world con-

tinues this sanctifying

ministry which Her Mas-

ter initiated.

We have lots of

Malankarites migrated to

Edmonton years ago. We

appreciate our Archdiocese of Ed-

monton for their support and spiritual

motivation to this community. All

Syro-Malankara community wishes

to keep their tradition and pass the

same liturgy to our future generation.

As a result of the continuous efforts

and wishes of all Malankarites, on

Feb 10, 2010, we decided to have a

prayer group and biweekly prayer

meetings are conducting at the resi-

dence of one of these families. Holy

Mass was celebrated occasionally

when a Malankara priest was avail-

able.

The presence of Rev. Fr. Daiju Ku-

riakose, who is on a spe-

cial assignment in To-

force in the formation of

the community in Ed-

Fr. Daiju Kuriakose on

April 28, 2010, we cele-

The first visit was conducted by His Grace Abraham

Mar Youlios, the Bishop of Muvattupuzha Diocese to

Edmonton along with Fr. Daiju Kuriakose on June 30,

2010. We gathered together along with our well-

wishers and celebrated a Holy Mass in Malankara rite

in St. Theresa`s Roman Catholic Church. The Bishop

and Fr. Daiju Kuriakose visited our Archbishop, H.E.

Richard W. Smith and asked about the permission for

getting a Malankara Priest here.

H.H. Pope Benedict XVI erected a new Exarchate in

USA and appointed as first Bishop H. E. Rev. Dr.

Thomas Mar Eusebius as Apostolic Visitor to Canada

and Europe. During his first visit to Edmonton on Jan-

uary 15, 2011, there was a meeting with the Archbish-

op of Edmonton, H.E. Richard W. Smith, and

requested for the presence of a Malankara priests

here. As per the request of H.E. Dr. Thomas Mar

Eusebius, the Archbishop of Edmonton is very

kind enough to appoint Rev. Fr. Thomas Puthu-

parampil as our coordinator.

On April 28, 2011, the Apostolic Visitor to Cana-

da visited Edmonton and conducted Holy mass

by H.E. Dr. Thomas Mar Eusebius in St. There-

sa’s Roman Catholic Church. During the auspi-

cious Eucharist, the bishop officially read the ap-

pointment letter of Archbishop Richard W Smith,

regarding Fr.Thomas Puthuparampil as the co-

ordinator for the Malankara faithful in Edmonton.

In Catholic Church calendar,

each month is dedicated to a

Saint or a Feast that is of a great

importance. June is the month

that celebrates the Sacred Heart

of Jesus. This year, the feast of

the Sacred Heart of Jesus is be-

ing celebrated on June

11th. Sacred Heart of Jesus rep-

resents the entire mystery of

Christ, the totality of his being,

and his person considered in its

most intimate essential: Son of

God. Christ himself is the

“Sacred Heart”, the Word Incar-

nate and our Savior who loved

us abundantly. Pope John Paul

II constantly reminded us that

devotion to the Sacred Heart

was an essential component for

evangelization, which is a mis-

sion called for by the church.

June: Month of the Sacred Heart

“For evangelization today,” he

said “the Heart of Christ must be

recognized as the heart of the

church: it is He who calls us to

conversion, to reconciliation. It is

He who leads pure hearts and

those hungering for justice along

the way of the beatitudes. It is He

who achieves the warm commun-

ion of the members of the one

Body. It is He who enables us to

adhere to the Good News and to

accept the promise of eternal life.

It is He who sends us out on mis-

sion. The heart-to-heart with Jesus

broadens the human heart on a

global scale.” So let us celebrate

the Feast of Sacred Heart with de-

votion and open-heartedness that

He may sow in us the seeds need-

ed for evangelization.

Youth are always in search of truth

and meaning in life. In their pursuit, they need

guidance and inputs. Toronto MCYM had the

opportunity to conduct a Youth Seminar on

May 28, 2011 from 11 am to 5 pm at our

MCYM president’s residence. The seminar

had given ample opportunity to interact on the

topic Holiness that enriched and motivated the

youth that were present there.

We opened the seminar with the recit-

ing of the holy Rosary. Following this, we had

Bible readings concentrating on two main

scriptures – Luke 24: 36-53 (call to a renewed

life), and Galatians 5: 22-23 (virtues). The

main speaker of the day was our director Fr.

Daiju Kuriakose. He began with a basic de-

scription of what Holiness is – a virtue. He

explained to us that to achieve Holiness, there

are three main criteria: you must have a sin-

less life, it must give you peace and fulfill-

ment, and you must lead a life that is pleas-

ing to God (a life worthy of God’s call). Fr.

Daiju then continued to say that the world it-

self is good because God created it, and all of

God’s creations are good. However, it is we

who embraced sin and make the world sinful.

So we can either be a saint in this world with

the help of God or leave ourselves to the temp-

tations to become a devil in this world. We

spoke about the path to Holiness and had dis-

cussions about why we need to be holy.

We had some free time to just sit in

silence and reflect on our lives and ways for us

to become holy. Throughout the various activi-

ties, discussions, and reflections we had, our

youth truly experienced a very spiritual and

communal feeling. We also played a few

games and had ample bonding time. May God

shower his abundant blessings and graces up-

on our MCYM, so that we may grow in the

path of Holiness.

A Poem dedicated to all the Fathers out there…

Source: Unknown

On behalf of the entire community, we would like to wish all fathers a very warm Happy

Fathers Day!

4 years My Daddy can do anything!

7 years My Dad knows a lot…a whole lot.

8 years My father does not know quite everything.

12 years Oh well, naturally Father does not know that either.

14 years Oh, Father? He is hopelessly old-fashioned.

21 years Oh, that man-he is out of date!

25 years He knows a little bit about it, but not much.

30 years I must find out what Dad thinks about it.

35 years Before we decide, we will get Dad's idea first.

50 years What would Dad have thought about that?

60 years My Dad knew literally everything!

65 years I wish I could talk it over with Dad once more.

Happy FatHer’s Day
