THANK YOU FROM DAVID PHILLIPS

I would like to thank everybody who attended my wife Andrea’s Funeral. It was wonderful to see so many people in the Church and I would like to thank all the kind people who did the food and teas in the Hall afterwards.

I know Andrea would be humbled by the day.

Thank you very much.

David

PARISH REPORT 9th May 2011

At the meeting on the 9th May eight Councillors were present together with two members of the public. Issues were raised by the public present about overgrown hedges in both Church Way and Church Road; these matters were to be referred to the County Council for attention. Following complaints by several members of the community Signage advertising ‘overnight parking’ for lorries at the Three Horse Shoes Public House in Ermine Street was to be investigated with the District Council, meanwhile the chairman was to speak with the landlord about the signs and their validity considering that Ermine Street through the villages was a weight restricted route. The Council annual accounts provided by the clerk were adopted as a correct record of the financial position of the Council. Mr. Ryan said that there would appear to be real progress in the registering of a new route for footpath 11 at Grange Farm. The chairman reported that the village hall at Little Stukeley had no available funds to allocate to the proposed new play equipment so Mr. Vincent was to proceed with an application to the National Lottery Fund. Mr. Ryan reported that he was still working with Urban & Civic for the provision of allotment land in Owl End and that he would carry out an informal traffic survey and then add to that any projected extra traffic that may be generated by movements to the allotments, he would then be prepared to discuss the results with Owl End residents prior to the formation of any ‘concrete’ plans. The Council adopted another ‘document of other matters’ designed by Mr. Ryan to supplement all issues not covered by Financial Regulations and Standing Orders. The next Council meeting will be on MONDAY 6th JUNE 2011 at 7.30pm at Great Stukeley village hall. Michael. J. Newman, Clerk & RFO.

Stukeleys’ Heritage Group

A reminder that our next meeting is at 7.30 pm on Wednesday 15th June in Great Stukeley Village Hall. This meeting will focus on Little Stukeley and we have arranged for a discussion to be recorded with memories from Alan Adams, who has lived in the village all his life, and Sarah Gifford who will bring memories of life at the Old Rectory. We had hoped to have Donald Cook with us, but at the time of writing he is in Hinchingbrooke Hospital; I’m sure all the Group will join with me in wishing him a speedy recovery.

Our October meeting will feature a talk by David Cozens on people in history who were associated with The Stukeleys, including Henry Archdeacon of Huntingdon,(1088 – 1157) , The Stones, Royalists in the Civil Wars, and Dr William Stukeley (1687-1765).

Dear Resident(s),

The Rotary Club of Huntingdon Hinchingbrooke, (with the agreement of the Stukeleys’ Parish

Council and Huntingdon District Council), will be holding our 10K Charity Run on Sunday June 19th,

(Father’s Day!) for the 2nd year. Approximately 500 participants will be taking part.

This will start at Huntingdon Race Course and will pass through bridleways and into Great

Stukeley, along Church Road, turning right into Montague Road, cutting through onto Ermine

Street, and then at the Stukeleys Country Hotel, turning back onto Church Road, turning right

along the grass alongside West View, and left onto the footpath, before returning to the

bridleway. Further information is available on www.huntingdon10Kcharityrun.co.uk.

The run starts at 10am from the racecourse, however it is anticipated that the first of the

participants will reach the village by approximately 10.15, with the last participants passing

through the village approximately one hour later.

We would ask all residents using their cars during this period of time to exercise extreme caution

and adhere to race marshals instructions, and to please ensure that dogs are kept away from the

runners.

It would also help the participants if residents were to cheer them on as they pass their property.

Last year’s event was a great success and many runners and marshals commented on how much

they appreciated the support they received from the local residents.

If any of you feel that you would like to help as marshals, your help would be gratefully received.

Please contact Bob Hulstrom, or Jane Morris on 01480 431848 (home) or mobile 07887995867

No little cat to sleep on the bed,

no little cat to tickle her head.

No little cat to sit on the sill,

no little cat to give her a pill.

No little cat to roll on the floor,

no little cat to paw at the door.

No little cat to jump up at the sink,

no little cat to give her a drink.

No little cat to meet me from the bus,

no little cat to give her a fuss.

No little cat to share my tea,

no little cat to look for a flea!

No little cat to bring in a mouse,

no little cat to lose it in the house!

No little cat to sharpen a claw,

no little cat to open a door.

No little cat to have her treat,

no little cat to clean her feet.

Sleep sweetly, my little cat, sleep,

I’ll try not to cry and I’ll try not to weep.

Thank you for being such a wonderful friend.

I’ll love you forever, right up to the end.

I know that many of you will be disappointed to see this is not one of Pastor Paul's stories, the sad thing is that he will no longer be able to carry on writing them for the Stukeley's Parish Magazine, for some time now Pastor Paul has been struggling with his eyes and now they have reached the point where he can not continue to prepare sermons or the articles for the magazine and will be returning home to the U S A early in august .As a church we are going to miss Him and his wife they have been such faithful servants for Grace Fellowship over the past 6 years and will be a hard act to follow , in next months magazine we will able to let you all know what will be happening at Grace Fellowship Michael Angelo once showed a friend an unfinished piece of sculpture in his studio. Calling upon him again after a lapse of time, the friend was surprised to see apparently little progress. The great master showed him how he had rounded a limb here, smoothed a roughness there, put in a touch of expression in another place. “But these things are trifles,” said his friend. “Yes,” replied the great master ; “but trifles go to make up perfection, and perfection is no trifle.”
