Wear Red to celebrate the Solemnity of Pentecost on the weekend of June 8-9.
Salt Right before He ascended to heaven Jesus told the disciples: “You are witnesses of these things.” He wanted to connect their experience to His teachings, because they would not be able to
share what they didn’t believe in their hearts.
What about you? What have you witnessed? Where have you seen God in action? What’s happened in your life that strengthened your faith? It is so easy in this fast-paced, crazy world to miss the many ways that Jesus is present to us, to guide and inspire and strengthen and encourage us. One day, one week can blur into another and suddenly we feel empty and unsure if God even knows who we are or what we’re going through. Maybe you’ve had days (weeks?) just like that. The Ascension reminds us to look up—to look for the presence of Jesus each and every day—no matter what is happening in our lives. If our hearts are seeking Christ, we will find Him—often in the most surprising situations. Paul’s great prayer in the second reading from Ephesians is my blessing prayer for you:
“May the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, give you a spirit of wisdom
and revelation resulting in knowledge of him. May the eyes of your hearts be enlightened,
that you may know what is the hope that belongs to his call,
what are the riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones, and what is the surpassing
greatness of his power for us who believe.”
Remember—“We are an Easter people and Alleluia is our song.”

Beyond the Homily Questions 1. What was a “God experience” that you
remember? 2. How did it affect you? 3. Have you ever seen God at work in someone
else and told them what you saw? 4. What could you do to better “notice” God’s
hand in your life? Fa !"# J%&'
WHAT AN ANNIVERSARY!
A great shout of gratitude to everyone and anyone who
contributed to the great celebration for my
anniversary last Wednesday night! Besides being deeply moved, it was a tremendous affirmation to
see how all of the pastorate parishes came together to make it such a memorable night. The
planning was personal, the decorations spectacular, the food was awesome, the program delightful and the people—the people from many
avenues of my life, were a great gift. This should be a great indicator to our young people how a life of service to God’s people touches lives and is very rewarding. I am
humbled and grateful for your many best wishes, cards and kind words, and your generosity in gifts. The celebration couldn’t have been any
better in my estimation. Let us continue to pray for one another as we strive to “Be Church by
journeying together on the path to Christ.”
With love and prayers Fr John Haugen

Resisting Happiness—Discover how to recognize and conquer resistance in your life so you can become the-best-version-of-yourself and experience true happiness. Join us as we study Matthew Kelly’s book Resisting Happiness. In this book, we can learn how to break through the resistance that prevents us from becoming the-best-version-of-ourselves and live with passion and purpose. It is resistance that stands between you and happiness. In these pages you will learn not only what it is, but how to recognize and conquer it in your own life. We had planned to discuss this book during Lent, but there were too many activities scheduled. We will meet at St. Mark on Wednesdays, June 12 and June 19, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. to discuss the book. If you need a copy, pick one up at the parish office; you'll be good to go. Please call the Parish Office if you have questions, or just pick up the book and join us for the discussion. Don't Worry, Be Happy!
Flowers—Have you noticed the beautiful flower boxes outside of church? Thank you to Rita Engelken and her daughters, and to Mac Olsem and Rose Ann Kelchen for planting the flowers in them for all of us to enjoy. Thanks to Rose Ann also for making sure they have the water they need to grow and bloom throughout the summer. As in the past, if you have flowers in your garden that you would like to share, we are grateful for your help in enhancing the environment for our Sunday Mass. If you have flowers, please call Linda Williams (563-590-1524).
