Golden Music Festival 2014

Welcome!

Welcome to the Golden Music Festival at Clear Creek History Park! This weekend’s event is a benefit for Golden History Museums. All proceeds earned support GHM’s education programs and collections conservation.

Clear Creek History Park is one of three historic properties operated by Golden History Museums, a division of the City of Golden Parks and Recreation Depart-ment. If you look north across Clear Creek you will see the Golden History Center, home to changing exhibits, public programs and our artifact collection. To the south at the corner of Arapahoe and 12th Streets sits the Astor House Museum, an 1867 boarding house that is listed on the National Register. These special places are open year round and offer an array of fun, family programming. In fact, if you stop by this park next week, you’d see dozens of kids participating in Hands-on History—our highly popular summer camp for kids ages 6-11. Be sure to “Like” us on Facebook (if you have a mobile device, you can do it right now at www.facebook.com/GoldenHis-toryMuseums).

Mark your calendars to return for other great Golden History Museums events. Join us on September 13th for the first-ever Golden Frontier Olympics. Put together a team to test your historic skills and knowledge and get a taste of what it was like for Colorado pioneers. Teams will earn points by competing in events that range from exhilarating to downright silly. Come to the 3rd Annual Black & White Night on Oc-tober 11th for a festive evening with music, sumptuous desserts, cocktails, silent auc-tion and fun entertainment. For a full list of events, visit GoldenHistory.org/events.

Finally, help connect us to any educators you know. GHM has launched its new stan-dards-aligned classroom outreach program called Building Colorado. In this game-based program, students work in teams to build cities, respond to actual historic events, and earn points to achieve goals like becoming Colorado’s capital or building the first railroad.

This event would not be possible without the support of our sponsors, partners, and advertisers. A big thank you to the City of Golden, Credit Union of the Rockies, Colorado Creative Industries, 1 Stop Printing, Great Big Color, Visit Golden, Stem Ciders, Mountain Toad Brewing, Golden Moon Distillery, AC Golden Brewing, and SCFD. Also many thanks to our tremendous volunteers and the critically important Friends of Golden History Museums.

Thank you and enjoy the concert!

About Us

Golden History Museums offers visitors fun, participatory experiences about the exciting history of this dynamic town.

The Astor House, a former hotel and boarding house, offers a glimpse of life at the frenetic turn of the 20th century when Golden was a bustling supply town and trade center. Estab-lishments like the Astor House were an important fixture in Golden where transients and passers-through outnumbered residents nearly four to one.

Clear Creek History Park recreates 1880s life on a ranch in nearby Golden Gate Canyon. Visitors can immerse themselves in pioneer life by helping tend our garden, lending a hand with chores, participating in a school lesson, and caring for our farm animals.

The Golden History Center features a variety of changing exhibits about Golden’s past. It also boasts one of the finest collections of Coors Porcelain in the country, fun Jolly Ranch-er memorabilia, and a wealth of artifacts that tell the story of our city from its founding to present day.

We encourage you to explore and enjoy each of our venues. You’ll find that GHM offers something for everyone in your family and is a place you can visit and share with friends and family time and again.

Groundscore

Formed just over a year ago, through a combination of campsite pickin’ and Craigslist, Groundscore is a Boulder/Denver based bluegrass band. Although steeped in traditional bluegrass, their genre is loose enough to throw you from a Hoedown straight into a Hootenanny. So keep your pockets empty folks, ‘cause you never know what you’ll “Groundscore” when these four hit the stage!

Camptown

Camptown, a relatively new arrival on the Colorado music scene, specializes in contemporary and traditional Bluegrass music, and strives to capture the rhyth-mic groove and dynamic characteristic of the best contemporary Bluegrass bands ‘back East’. Comprised of ‘young veteran’ musicians hailing from the Midwest and Southeast, (and one Denver native!), Camptown features soulful lead and soaring harmony vocals, hard-driving, tasteful picking, and crisp arrangements. The band’s repertoire consists of both Bluegrass classics and more recent com-positions (including some originals), plus a few surprises thrown in for good measure!

Shortly after organizing, Camptown reached the finals of the 2013 Rockygrass Band Competition. In October 2013, Camptown had the honor of performing for Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, former President Jimmy Carter and wife Roselyn, at a gala Habitat for Humanity benefit held in Denver.

Camptown is Dustin Devine (home state: Oklahoma) – acoustic guitar/vocals, Ross Jacobsmeyer (Missouri) – banjo/vocals, Bob Jackson (Maryland) – man-dolin/fiddle/vocals, Ernie Martinez (Colorado) – mandolin/resophonic guitar/acoustic guitar/vocals, Cole Sigmon (North Carolina) – double bass/vocals.

The Westside Flyers are an enthusiastic group of 25 young violin-ists, ages 4-13, who love to “make music” together. These musi-cians are students of local private violin teacher, Laura Barnette. The Flyers spend a great deal of time taking lessons and practicing at home with their parents to improve their skills. They work on many different styles of music; Bach to fiddle, concertos to trios, Christmas music, waltzes and the blues. The Flyers have performed in several local churches, at Echter’s Greenhouse Fall Fest, for residents at the Westland Meridian, Golden Pond, and Clear Creek Commons. They have provided pre-concert entertainment for the Jefferson Symphony Orchestra. For many years the Flyers and the Children’s Choir of Golden presented a very successful joint spring concert celebrating their mutual love of music. Selected members of the Flyers have formed quartets, Quatro, 4MEN, The Ladies Aid Society and the newest group to begin work over the summer, the J.E.T.S. These quartets love to give concerts around Golden. The Flyers, supported by their parents, are wonderful musicians and even more wonderful, generous, kind and hard working children.

Chain Station

Entertainer Profile

Chain Station is a four-piece, high-energy, ‘get ‘em out on the dance floor’ string band from the Front Range of Colorado’s Rocky Moun-tains. They’ve become known for catchy and lyrically-poignant original songs which flow from the mountains, through them and right back to you! Pure mountain music!

Their live shows have become that of legend, with energy and stage antics that guarantee one hell of a night out. Equally comfortable rocking a packed club, playing backyard BBQs, or providing tasteful mountain music for your wedding, this band does it all…with style.

Finnders & Youngberg

Entertainer Profile

Each member of Finnders & Youngberg brings a variety of influenc-es and talent to the table. When they decided to bring their songs, voices and stories together in a brand new Colorado front range melting pot, a truly rootsy musical soup was seasoned and thick-ened.

Together the band weaves their way though a maze of influences, never losing sight of the roots that inspire them. It’s this merging of old and new that keeps their music from being simply a gimmicky restoration of a vintage era, and their original vision has enough distinction that you’ll seek this sound out again and again.

Julie Hoest

Entertainer Profile

Julie Hoest is a musician who performs songs in the style of con-temporary folk and blues. Her powerful fingerstyle guitar work accompanies a strong and tender voice. She has been performing in Colorado and nationally since the 1980s, and has played at sever-al festivals including the Rocky Mountain Folks Festival and the Grand County Blues Festival. She is also a member of the legendary Mother Folkers.

Julie’s fondness for the guitar began on Long Island at the age of eight, when her father encouraged her to play as he sat after din-ner singing the songs of Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie. Over the years, Julie has been influenced by a wide variety of musicians rang-ing from the early blues pickers of the ‘30s and ‘40s and jazz singers like Ella, to present-day artists such as Bonnie Raitt, Tim O’Brien, Norman Blake, Joni Mitchell, and Richard Thompson.

After taking a bit of a hia-tus from playing in public, Julie is back in full force and has recorded her third CD titled “Never Far.” Julie resides in northern Colorado with her hus-band, various four-legged creatures, and her three guitars.

The Railsplitters

Entertainer Profile

The Railsplitters are a hot new bluegrass band based in Boulder, CO, a veritable hotbed of new acoustic music. The band has been scaling new heights with a refreshing and charming range of blue-grass and ‘beyond-bluegrass’ music. Bringing real depth and for-midable talent, this group draws influences from bands such as Joy Kills Sorrow, Punch Brothers, and Crooked Still. The Railsplitters are nothing if not enthusiastically bluegrass and contagiously so with rapid tempos, unusual instrumentals, and good-time break-downs! Using powerful female and male vocals, enchanting har-monies, and masterful instrumentals, The Railsplitters have the kind of raw power that can raise mountains and maybe even a few eyebrows.
