Warrior Sound has seen the band grow from three to five members, but The Qemists also continue to broaden their sound by teaming up with a diverse range of artists, including Hacktivist, on the brilliant up-tempo anthem “Jungle.” The album also features collaborations with Japanese metallers Crossfaith, whose singer Kenta Koie features on “Anger” and UK grime MC Ghetts on “No Respect.” Now a band of five brothers — Dan Arnold, Bruno Balanta, Liam Black, Leon Harris, and Olly Simmons — The Qemists are a real live tour de force. Proof of this has been seen on recent tours with Korn and Enter Shikari, one-off shows with the likes of Skindred, and stand-out festival performances at Download, Breakout, and Butserfest. Now, the band primed and ready to unleash their latest album, Warrior Sound, which binds their respective influences and styles naturally into one progressively cohesive and solid sound. In short, The Qemists have finally arrived.

“Hyped as the future of the ‘back to the past’ nu-rave movement, The Qemists … gleefully plunder the past 20 years of classic dance

music, jumping from jungle breakbeats to hardcore pulses.”

“Finally, a dance-rock hybrid that is both danceable and musical.”

selling Points• Landmark collaboration between Nate Wooley and one of his trumpet heroes, Ron Miles.• Debut release on Firehouse 12 Records.• Recipient of the 2016 FCA Grants to Artists Award, from the non-profit organization founded by John Cage and Jasper Johns.• Recorded at Firehouse 12 by Chris Reba; mixed and mastered by owner and chief engineer Nick Lloyd.• Artwork and design by Megan Craig.• RIYL: Ron Miles, Miles Davis.

Media & Marketing• Represented by Pusher Media in NYC.• Active social media campaigns. • Multiple write-ups in the New York Times as well as All About Jazz, Brooklyn Vegan, Stereogum, Pop Matters, and more.

Argonautica is a new project that combines elements of aleatoric and minimalist compositional aesthetics and forces them through the prism of early fusion. Designed as an homage to Nate Wooley’s early trumpet hero Ron Miles, Argonautica seeks to find a new way to tell a story begun on the latter’s My Cruel Heart from the early ’90s. The group is a double trio, with Wooley and Miles on trumpets, new music firebrand Cory Smythe on piano, avant-electro keyboard whiz Jozef Dumoulin, and Rudy Royston and Devin Gray on drums. The compositions set up swirling asymmetrical hockets and soundspaces that give flexibility to the musical personalities of each member of the band. It is an organism, moving in part or in tandem, sometimes in two directions at once, but always with purpose.

“You could practically see rays of sunlight breaking through banks of clouds as Mr. Wooley, trumpet

pointed heavenward, reached the summit of his mountain once again.”

“One of the year’s most audacious releases, trumpeter Nate Wooley’s reimagining of Wynton

Marsalis’ early work is a revelation, bringing the art form’s modern evolution conceptually full circle.”

#7 IN THE 2015 NPR MUSIC JAZZ CRITICS POLL TOP 10. “What separates Mary Halvorson from many other young noisemaking guitarists is her unexpected melodic flair … Aside from Ellington’s ‘Solitude’ and recent numbers from her generational peers Chris Lightcap and Tomas Fujiwara, the program consists of … not standards, exactly, but tunes from the 1960s onward that ought to be, by Ornette Coleman, Carla Bley, Annette Peacock and their like.”

CHICAGO READER: “A real knockout … lately she’s been on a serious tear. She’s a ferocious voice [and on] the debut recording of her group Ubatuba … I’d hate to give too much credit to the presence of Tim Berne — especially since Laubrock composed all of the music — but his characteristically knotty, zigzagging lines make a strong impression on the overall sound.”

HHHH½ ALL ABOUT JAZZ: “While most young drummers are walking in the footsteps of the elders and the influences of the mainstream, Sorey thrives on the outside… His debut that/not further exposes the inner workings of a young musician with the ability to play in any context, but the boldness to do his own thing … the musicians are excellent and Sorey’s playing is profound.”

SLATE: THE MUSIC CLUB 2012 “Mary Halvorson and her Quintet made my favorite jazz record this year, Bending Bridges, full of surprising melodies, discursive horn swaggers, and her wildly inventive electric guitar work, which wasn’t afraid to skronk and roar. I also love the metaphor of the title, which suggests a transformative brand of genre-straddling.”

NPR MUSIC BEST OF 2013: “In a year bursting with artful piano solo albums … Myra Melford’s was the one that reached me most deeply. Impressionistically based on the paintings of a recently deceased friend, it’s a lyrical and uncharacteristically simple effort by one of the most consistently challenging composers active in jazz today.”

HHHHH ALL ABOUT JAZZ: “The most important jazz flutist of her generation, Nicole Mitchell reveals another facet of her diverse musical persona … Inspired by the work of Hugo Award-winning Afro-Futurist science fiction author Octavia Butler, Mitchell transposes Butler’s words into an abstract sonic travelogue. Breathlessly vivacious and boldly creative, it is Mitchell’s most experimental and challenging release to date.”

Guitarist and composer Wolfgang Schalk’s new album From Here to There is an electrifying statement celebrating the “power of now” in jazz. Schalk’s new compositions — plus a fresh take on Ellington’s “Satin Doll” — bring the listener on a swinging spiritual journey from the first note. His band, featuring Andy Langham (piano), Carlitos Del Puerto (bass), and Clarence Penn (drums), masterfully support Schalk’s characteristic warm sound and swinging lines. Schalk’s seventh album as a leader, From Here to There stands as one of his finest works.

“Great new album! It stands out.”

“Intriguing … reaches from warm-toned melodic playing to free-style adventuring.”

“Strong and modern post-bop vibe chops à la Pat Martino.”

“One of the best jazz guitarists on the US scene.”

Mass III is the second official full-length album by Amenra, one of Europe’s most popular sludge/post-metal bands. Slow, depressive, dark instrumental passages combine with anguished screams that come welling up from nowhere as Amenra presents us with a heavy, dark journey into the world of madness.

selling Points• One of the most popular European sludge/post-metal bands. • Started the influential Church of Ra, now on Neurot Recordings.• Features live recordings of acoustic renditions of Amenra tracks. • In-house media campaign.• RIYL: Church of Ra, ISIS, Neurosis.

In 2009, Amenra released the beautiful and fragile EP Afterlife, meant as a musical testament for future generations. The acoustic tracks that made up this EP showed a very different aspect of Amenra, but also proved that in any incarnation, the band connects with its audience on a deeply emotional level. The EP continued to linger, and it was only a matter of time before the band decided to revisit the acoustic approach. In 2014, the Belgian powerhouse again showed its most vulnerable side, and this new album collects live recordings of old and new acoustic renditions of Amenra tracks, as well as a collaboration with Belgian poet Sofie Verdoodt and two bone-chilling covers.

selling Points• 180-gram vinyl release features thick matte cover and download card.• Sophomore modern classical release of renowned Polish composer.• Artwork based on the work of U.S. artist duo Kahn & Selesnick.• Facebook campaign with over 100,000 targets.• Email campaign with over 15,000 targets.• RIYL: Steve Reich, Igor Stravinsky, Edgar Varesè, Wojciech Kilar.

Kuba Kapsa is a Polish pianist and composer, who served as leader of the avant-jazz combo Contemporary Noise Sextet (2006–2014). Beyond that, he is a renowned composer for film and theater. His latest venture is the first of a sophisticated series of projects of modern classical music bearing the common title “Vantdraught.” The first part of the series, called Vantdraught 10 Vol. 1, featured 10 classical instruments: four violins, two violas, cello, vibraphone, marimba, and piano. This second part is Vantdraught 4, a quartet album written for violin, clarinet/bass clarinet, trombone, and piano. The minimalistic style is preserved, although the music is less repetitive and much more intimate. And, much like its predecessor, Vantdraught 4 features astonishing artwork based on “The Reluctant Conscript” by seminal artist duo Kahn & Selesnick.

Burnside, Howlin’ Wolf, The Black Keys, ZZ Top.

The blues are a religion, and Brian “Husky” Burnette sho’nuff preaches it. You can feel the testimony as he blends Mississippi Delta, rock, and electric blues. His music is gritty, soulful, low-down, and dirty. Husky, following in the family footsteps of rockabilly kings Johnny Burnette and Dorsey Burnette, has written and toured with several national artists over the years, most notably as lead guitar for legendary singer/songwriter Roger Alan Wade and the supporting act on tour for Hank Williams III.
