your witness.

Romans 8:28, “And we

know that in all things God

works for the good of those

who love him, who have been

called according to his

purpose.”

At the checkout they

always seem to ask, “Did you

find everything you were

looking for?” The answer is

almost always, “Yes, and

more.”

It was a typical outing to

the grocery store; first the

produce, then the canned goods.

You know the drill. You may even

know every aisle.

Having crossed everything

off my list, I rolled my cart into a

“we” checkout lane. Unpacking

my used grocery bags from an old

milk crate I noted another cart

pulling up behind mine, a middle

aged man was behind the cup

holder on his grocery cart. He had

the character and form of a dutiful

husband dispatched from home. I

was certain he probably was about

to complete a spouse mission

involving bread, eggs and milk.

We made eye contact and we were

close enough for a conversation.

“Did your wife send you

here?” I asked with an assuming

smile. “I wish she had … she

passed away 10 years ago. Seems

like yesterday,” he replied.

I gulped. And there it was,

just like that, it happened. This

total stranger just opened his

biography. He cracked his book

open to a page in his story that

occurred 10 years before and held

it up for me to see. A page, one

could speculate, where he had

placed a permanent bookmark.

He was not complaining.

He was simply answering my

question. I relearned that people

want to tell their story. The clerk

started to ring up my items as

they were lifted from the cart to

the conveyor. We introduced

ourselves. His name was

Bill. Next was my produce, then

came another page display from

Bill, “I lost one of my kids six

years ago,” he said.

My canned goods came

next along with another question

from me, “Do you feel picked on,

Bill, like you are getting more

than your share of hardships?”

By this time I was down

to the bread and eggs. Bill

replied, “Not at all, I see

blessings … my grandchildren.

My son’s wife was pregnant

when he died …”

My cart was empty. My

groceries bagged and paid for. It

was time to go. Bill and I shook

hands and we walked different

directions across life’s stage. Bill

had given me a gift to ponder on,

seeing blessings in the midst of

troubles and hardships. Bill was a

witness in his words. He missed

his wife dearly, along with his

son, yet it was clear his faith was

not crushed but perhaps

strengthened.

Bill, whoever you are and

wherever you are, thank you for

announced With concern for the return of the historical “summer slump,” the council approved an adopt-a-bill program in order to minimize drawing funds from reserves to pay our basic bills. Copies of bills will be posted on a bulletin board near the main church entrance. The board will be active from Memorial Day until Labor Day.

Congregation members are encouraged to ‘adopt a bill.’ To do this, take the copy of any bill from the bulletin board and an envelope. Place the copy and payment in the envelope and place the envelope in the offering plate during a church service or mail it to the church office. Please do not pay the bill directly to the service provider; checks must be made payable to Our Saviour Lutheran Church.

“You may remember an adopt-a-bill program from the past. There are enough bills and in enough sizes for everyone,” said Mike Charles, congregat ion president emeritus. “The programs have always been successful. And this program will be successful too.”

Much anticipated OSLC church directory has arrived

inadvertently omitted from the

roster, please provide the correct

information to the office by

calling (920) 468-4065 or

e-mailing [email protected].

A copy for use by boards

or committees have been placed

in each group’s mailbox in the

office hallway. Should you

need an additional copy, please

contact the office.

Smile because the long

awaited church directory has

arrived!

If you had your picture

taken or submitted a picture of

your family for the directory, a

directory has been set aside for

you. Please pick up your copy

(each is labeled and should be in

alphabetical order) from the boxes

by the coffee bar area. For all

others, a limited supply of

additional booklets is available

and can be picked up at the office.

Please verify the contact

information that is in the roster

section in the back of the

directory. If any of the contact

information has changed, if

to live in bondage to certain emotions. You will learn valuable information about facing your new normal in life and renewing your hope for the future. Grief-related books/materials are available for participants to borrow.

GriefShare will begin on September 15, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. in OSLC’s parlor. The cost is a $20 donation. Contact the church office with any questions or to register at by phone 4 6 8 - 4 0 6 5 o r e - m a i l [email protected].

This 13 week program features biblical, Christ -centered teaching that focuses on grief topics associated with the death of loved ones. The DV D se m in a r f e a t u re s nationally respected grief experts and real-life stories of people, followed by small group discussions. Past participants have related how helpful the information and follow-up discussions were to them.

Many grieving people find they are only beginning the work of healing when friends or family have returned to their daily life routines. Too often people, including Christians, tend to store their grief instead of allowing it to do the

God-given work for which it is intended. Don't allow fear of what others may think keep you from what could help you. Confidentiality is very much a part of this program.

Your bereavement experience may be recent or not so recent. You will find encouragement, comfort and help in grieving the death of a spouse, child, parent, sibling, other family member or friend. No matter what the cause of your loved one's death, this is an opportunity to be around people who understand what you are feeling. You will learn how to recognize the symptoms of being stuck in grief and that you do not need

A final note… We need to assume that there will be an NFL season this year and, with that said, need to have volunteers ready to work when that first event arrives. All volunteers must take an online alcohol awareness test. Instructions to taking the test can be found at the coffee bar island. Please put your name and number on the sign-up sheet to show your interest in serving for the upcoming season and then take the test instructions at home. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old and have a valid picture ID to show when entering. The uniform includes black pants (no capris, shorts, etc.) and comfortable shoes (no open heels or toes). A shirt and hat will be provided at each game to complete the uniform.

As many news outlets had reported, two very popular icons, country music artist Kenny Chesney and Lambeau field, met on June 11, 2011. Similar music performers leading opening for Chesney included Uncle Kracker, Billy Currington and the Zac Brown Band. This huge music event, with a crowd of around 50,000, spanned almost six-and-a-half hours. The fans exploded in cheers when Packers head coach Mike McCarthy brought the Lombardi trophy on stage to Kenny Chesney before the band played his hit football song, “Boys of Fall.” Kenny showed an interest in returning to Lambeau Field and, if logis-tics work, this type of concert may be scheduled more often. So…what does this concert have to do with Our Saviour Lutheran Church and why is this article in our monthly newsletter? Members and friends of members of OSLC and even the

church secretary manned two food stands during the event. The eight register ‘Grid Iron Grill’ in section 308 and a four register ‘Goin’ Deep Pizza’ in Section 107. Each of the 27 volunteers worked approxi-mately 11 hours each (from 12:30 p.m. until 11:30 p.m.) to serve hamburgers, brats, French fries, cheese curds, pizza, beer and more to the hungry, and thirsty captive crowd. In that one day, in those 11 long hours, through the efforts of those few folks, the church will receive around $4,000 in sales profits and tips. Without the leadership of Neil and Rosemary Burmeister, the stand leads for the concert, the task of round up and training volunteers could not have been accom-plished. Additional thanks goes to all of the volunteers during this event as well as all who worked as runners during the past Packer season.

Members and friends of OSLC took part in local monumental music event And ready to do it all over again next year

For more, visit www.libertasgb.org Did you know that communication is one of the best ways to keep teens away from drugs and alcohol and yet it’s still one of the most feared and seldom used.

The end of the school year has arrived and for youngsters the days of free time and hanging out with friends is here. Many teens have less structure and supervision during summer break and unfortunately this can lead to increased opportunities to use or abuse drugs and alcohol. While teens should be supervised when possible, realistically there will be times with no supervision during the summer. During those times it’s suggested that parents:

Encourage children to become involved with community or recreation activities.

Talk to your children so they understand how you feel about drug and alcohol abuse.

Discuss the consequences of using drugs and alcohol.

Assign household projects or lawn chores.

Communicate with other parents and neighbors. Check in with kids during the day to determine their whereabouts and activities.

Even when parents can’t be with their teen, it’s important for them to know their daily activities. Remember, the more positive activities teens are involved in, means fewer chances for them to get

Thrivent Choice dollars; did you choose Our Saviour?

Summer is a time to keep teens active
