Congratulations to the Management and staff on a job well done during the 2013 Annual Club Championships! I was pleasantly told that the course played in very tough conditions, with the green speed running at 12.8 feet on the Stimpmeter.

Also, heartiest congratulations to all winners - Men’s champion Tan Vi Kung, Ladies champion Khairunhanisah Azlan Hanif for winning the title for the fifth consecutive time this year, and Senior champion Foo Hwa Peng.

On a similar note, I would like to acknowledge our junior Kiishaan Tharmalingam who placed 5th in this edition of the Club Championships – he was only eleven strokes behind the champion and on his very

first attempt at the event. Also Raeysha Surendran, another talented teen who made her debut at the event and one who settled with runner-up honours in the Ladies Championship after a worthy title charge alongside the champion. Well done!

I would also like to extend a special ‘Thank You’ to the rules officials who worked very hard prior to the event to ensure that the course is marked according to standard, and who also advised us on the technical aspects of rules during the event proper.

Bravo to all for braving the tough course conditions, and once again, hats off to the champions for besting it!

On the sport side of things, we were very active with tournaments such as the Badminton Championship, and kudos to the winners of the respective categories! I was also pleased to note that the Swimming Championship was successfully organised and welcomed the participation of 80 swimmers this year.

Additionally, I am very much looking forward to members' participation in the Captain's Trophy this year, especially after such a great showdown at the successfully concluded Club Championships. With such wonderful fellowship and continuous support, I'm sure September 15 will prove to be yet another fun-filled battle for the trophy!

To wrap things up on a constructive note, KPGCC is one of the best clubs around to not only socialise, but also be active in various sports. While the Management is working towards the betterment of all aspects and areas of the Club, we as members should give our full support and as always, helfpul comments and feedback are always appreciated.

Last but not least, a blessed Ramadhan to all Muslim members and Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri. To everyone else – be safe and best wishes as always!

We are proud to announce that KPgCC was voted the Best Maintained golf Course in the 2012 Pargolf awards, which was held at the Sime darby Convention Center on April 26.

This great achievement was contributed by the dedication of the Golf Course Maintenance department’s staff - their hard work in maintaining the golf course so that it is in top notch condition is a year-round effort, as well as members’ cooperation in observing proper golf etiquette while on the course. Similarly, the Management is committed and will continuously strive towards maintaining the best possible golf course condition, especially for members’ enjoyment.

I would like to congratulate our Men’s champion Tan Vi Kung, Seniors’ champion Eric Foo Hwa Peng and Ladies’ champion Khairunhanisah Azlan Hanif, for their excellent performance during our recently concluded 2013 Club Championships in June. We received overwhelming response from our members, and it was great that you enjoyed the championship course set-up and super-fast green speeds.

Our thanks go out to the Operations staff and the Club Championships organising committee for ensuring the smooth operation of the event. And a big ‘Thank You’ to all the sponsors as well for making this event a great success!

Great news! We have added Spring City Golf & Lake Resort onto our overseas reciprocal list. One of the top courses in China, Spring City was voted 1st Runner-Up – Best Course in China during the recent 2012 Asian Golf Monthly Awards, and we are honoured to be the first club in Asia Pacific to reciprocate with this prestigious establishment.

Moving on, we will be organising a Family day on Sunday, September 22, in conjunction with KPGCC’s 15th Anniversary celebrations. So, do come on over with your family and friends to enjoy the fun-filled activities, games, food and merchandise stalls. Plus, there will be lots of lucky draw prizes to be won as well!

Also, do treat your family and friends to a sumptuous Ramadhan buffet at our Poolside Pavilion during the holy month of Ramadhan. Scheduled from July 13 to August 4, we will be serving up a wide selection of Malay and international cuisine in celebration of the festive occasion.

Before I sign off, Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri to Muslim members and to all, please drive home safely.

See you on the greens!tang Meng Loon

pargolf awards 2012/may monthly medal

Sawadee, Here We Come!

The May Monthly Medal teed-off on Sunday morning of May 12 as the opening leg of the 2013 Cleveland Srixon CSSB Open circuit.

Contested in stableford format, the tournament saw gross winners Lam Kong Foo and Tan Vi Kung, together with A Medal winner dzahaman Abdul Rahman advance to the September grand final at Rancho Charnvee Resort & Country Club and Vintage Golf & Country Club in Thailand.

KPgCC reaffirmed its status as the Best Maintained Golf Course in the country for the third consecutive year at the 2012 ParGolf Awards, ahead of Kuala Lumpur GCC, Horizon Hills GCC, The Mines Resort GC and Royal Selangor GC.

Held on April 26 at the Sime darby Convention Center, the glitzy gala witnessed Gamuda director dato’ Goon

Heng Wah accept the award from director General of Tourism Malaysia, dato’ Mirza Mohammad Taiyab.

KPGCC and HHGCC also received nominations in the Golf Club of the Year category, where KLGCC was proclaimed the winner.

“It is a tremendous honour for KPGCC to receive the award and I would like to

thank the strong teamwork and dedication of our highly committed staff, members’ cooperation as well as the continuous support from the media and golfers alike. This award simply exemplifies our commitment to excellence!” said Tang, Group General Manager for KPGCC and HHGCC.

“Kota Permai GCC continues to set the standard and indeed raises the bar for golf course maintenance in the country. The clubhouse is also one of the best in the country in terms of facilities and upkeep,” said Jonathan Ponniah, Managing Editor of ParGolf magazine.

The awards were based on a points system decided via three channels i.e. voting by a strong panel of 64 golf industry personalities appointed by ParGolf, an online poll on www.pargolfmagazine.com and ParGolf’s management.

The Four Brothers Cool

on behalf of the Golf Committee and

participants of the Senior, Ladies and Men's

Club Championships, a big ‘Thank You’ is

extended to the Management and all

supporting staff. We know that a great deal of

tireless effort was put in to organise this annual

event, and you have made this year's Club

Championships another successful one!

Not forgetting the sponsors, our gratitude

goes out to all of you as well for making this very

important event a memorable one for us. Last

but not least, to all members who came to

participate or simply just to enjoy the Club’s

facilities – this is YOUR club, and therefore yours

to enjoy!

Speaking about enjoyment, the Senior event

is getting very crowded and it is very likely that

the age limit may be extended next year. Rest

assured that all comments regarding the

running of the Championships, both prior and

during the event, will be looked into by your Golf

Committee for the necessary improvements to

be made.

A persistent problem that we have taken

notice of is in regards to the pace of play

experienced during the Championships every

year. Some flights actually take more than 6

hours to complete 18 holes - which is against

the spirit of the game! For this reason,

sometimes it is very difficult to concentrate and

produce your best in such situations and

therefore, this will be our first priority towards

improvement.

Once again, a big ‘Thank You’ to everyone

for yet another successful Championship, with

heartiest congratulations to all winners and to

the rest, do try harder next year and we will see

you then!

Happy Golfing!

senior & ladies club championship

Khairunhanisah azlan hanif reaffirmed her status as KPGCC’s best female golfer yet again, after seizing her fifth successive victory at the 2013 Ladies Club Championship.

Firing a two-day total of 153, the five-handicapper surged ahead of rising KPGCC teen star Raeysha Surendran (8) by five shots to claim the Ladies Gross title, leaving the latter in the runner-up’s seat. Last year’s runner-up Ong Gim Hong (11) settled for third place on 159.

The Ladies Nett category saw doris Yee (11) bagging the title with a combined two-day total of 143, also five shots clear over her closest rival and runner-up Loo Eng Loo (20). Ng Guat Lee (22) took third place on 151.

Meanwhile, Eric Foo Hwa Peng (3) led the seniors on a two-day winning total of 149 to claim the Senior Club Championship's Gross category. Runner-up honours went to Goh Kian Yong (7) who carded a combined 152, and three shots back in third place was Tajudin Supian (5).

With all the top three performers finishing on 141, the Senior Nett category indeed witnessed a tussle to the end. After a countback, Ng Thin Poh (9) was announced the winner, Phang Ah Kheon (15) as runner-up and Eoon Chin Oon (24) in third place.

The Super Senior Gross and Nett categories in contention for golfers aged 60 and above, saw these golden agers battling it out ‘old school’ with dato’ Ayob Mohamed (10) snagging the Gross title on 176, two shots ahead of runner-up Steven Tiong (14). Last year’s victor Goh Ah Hin (18) meanwhile retained his winning streak, this time over at the Nett category where he finished on 144 while Ng Ah Chong (21) successfully defended his runner-up position two points back.

men's club championship

tan Vi Kung managed to keep a steady hold on his lead to seize the Men’s gross title by two shots over closest challenger and newly-crowned Senior champion Foo Hwa Peng at the 2013 Men’s Club Championship which was held from June 21-23.

Although blanketed by grey skies due to the annual haze phenomenon, the tournament this year was indeed a nail-biting affair, especially with the top three performers in each category notching up a margin of only a few strokes between them in their race for glory. In addition, the scores displayed on the leaderboard certainly were testament to KPGCC’s superfast greens, which were running at 12.8 on the Stimpmeter during the championships.

Holding his lead (72-76) heading into the final round, Tan’s third day 85 still enabled the eight-handicapper his victory on a three-day total of 233. Although he managed to stay close behind Tan one shot back after the first round, Foo unfortunately fell back on day two with an 84 and closed the final day with a 78 for a three-day total of 235 plus runner-up honours. Meanwhile, defending champion Zakaria Mohamed settled for third place on 237, up one shot from his winning total last year.

The Nett title was claimed by 11-handicapper Lee Peng Chin on 220 by virtue of a countback, edging Chang Thean Siang (13) into second place. KPGCC Handicap Sub-Committee chairman Gilbert Low (15) took third place on nett 224.

Held on the night of the final round on June 23 together with the ladies and senior championships, the customary prize presentation dinner welcomed members, invited guests, sponsors’ representatives and the media. Merry-making over a sumptuous spread while drinks flowed freely and a live three-piece band serenaded in the background, members and guests were also treated to fantastic lucky draw prizes and, of course, wonderful KPGCC hospitality which truly capped an unforgettable night!

KPGCC’s swim team thoroughly dominated the annual swimming championship held on Sunday morning of April 28, and plugged a vast majority of the top spots which were contested via seven gender-based categories.

Currently in its 11th edition this year, the invitation towards the 2013 meet was extended by the Klang Executive Club (KEC), and saw an increase in the number of participants with swimmers ranging from ages 7 to 17 years contesting the five age groups. Also surfacing at the event was the Turtle Swimming Academy, who came on board to lend their assistance.

Unfortunately, due to inclement weather more specifically lightning, the last event which was the 200m freestyle relay for both boys and girls was cancelled. However, this did not deter the wonderful response and support received from all parents and participants who were gathered at the event.

The annual swim meet strives to be one of many platforms for junior swimmers to compete in prior to participating in more competitive events in future. As KPGCC is always referring our young swimmers for their involvement in the SportExcel or Milo circuits, this event stands as an avenue for the discovery of new talents, as well as an arena for potential swimmers to be polished.

badminton championship/table tennis friendly

Star powered Friendly matchFormer international table tennis player Xie Saike was in town recently and made some time in his busy schedule for a friendly game at KPGCC on the evening of April 29. The friendly game also saw the participation of Gamuda director dato’ Ng Kee Leen.

Hugely popular in the 80’s, some of Xie Saike’s achievements include capturing the 1981 World Champion Mixed doubles title, the 1982 Asian Games Single’s title, plus three titles at the 1983 Asian Games with one each in the Single, Men’s doubles and Mixed doubles categories.

The pair defeated runner-ups Ong Sin Oong and Leong Kai Jenn with a 21-9, 21-13 victory to emerge as champions, while Yap Kah Hin and Chan Tat Kong notched up a 21-17, 21-14 victory over david Tham Meng Kin and

Foong Vooi Lin to win the Men’s doubles Combined Age of 90 & Above (Md90) category. Over in the Men’s doubles Open category, Wong Voon Chien and Terence Eng outdid the duo comprising Hew Sin Mee and Wong Chak Yee by

21-10, 21-13 to seal their spots as winners. With three doubles categories i.e.

two age groups and one open category up for contention, the edition this year unfortunately saw no representation from the fairer sex.

Young artists Showcase talentsKPGCC’s annual Art and Colouring Contest, held on March 31, proved to be yet another success this year as it not only provided the kids with an opportunity to showcase their colouring skills, but also exercise their creativity through

friendly competition. A yearly event held due to members’ demand, the event

this year welcomed the participation of 29 kids between 5 and 12 years old with three age groups up for contention.

art contest/social chairman message

Message froM thesoCial Chairman

earlier this year during the run-up to KPGCC’s AGM, many of you would have noticed that the Club was a hive of activities with heavy campaigning by members and serious canvassing for the election of the new Liaison Committee.

Recently, the country’s political scene also underwent a hectic period in the run-up to the national general elections. There is no denying that GE13 was, of course, a much bigger event and one of more significance to all of us. I am sure that many of you were very enthusiastic in evaluating the political situation during the period, as well as before and after the conclusion of these elections.

Surprisingly, other than the occasional friendly banter, there was not much display of political affiliation at the Club. In the aftermath of GE13, the media highlighted the major political differences and racial overtones that have affected the nation. However, to the credit of all KPGCC members, I found that this political divide has not affected the relationship among members in any one bit. I would like to think that this is very much due to the maturity of all

our members, whereby we treasure and embrace the virtues of friendly relationships, in addition to KPGCC being a place for healthy sports and social activities.

On the topic of healthy sports activities, we have just concluded our annual swimming and badminton championships. Towards this, I wish to extend my heartiest congratulations to the deserving winners and also thank all participants for their contributions and sportsmanship in making these annual events a huge success.

For our very junior members who are not into formal swimming competition levels as of yet, KPGCC has started preparations in organising some fun novelty events. I hope all parents will give their full support and encourage their young ones to participate in these fun events.

In conclusion, please remember that KPGCC is YOUR Club, so let us all keep this a happy and fun place!

Thank you.

liaison chairman message/2013 national sporteXcel swimming champonship

Message froM theliaison Chairman

With the coming of the fasting month followed by Eid Al-Fitr, on behalf of the Liaison Committee, our best wishes goes out to all Muslim members and staff towards a tranquil and rewarding Ramadhan.

Moving on, many would have been aware of the numerous notices displayed strategically throughout the golf course reminding fellow golfers on the etiquette of replacing divots. I trust that as socially perceptive members, the decorum of being conscious towards other players as well as the upkeep of our beloved Club is always upmost on our minds. Having said this, I praise the Management on their foresight in constantly monitoring matters towards improving the Club’s facilities for the enjoyment of all.

On a similar note, I would like to share my golfing experience of a time when I played golf

together with three guests at our beloved Club. In the midst of our game, it rained very heavily and we had to stop for about two hours. When it was time to resume play and although the fairways were wet, there was no standing water and the greens were steady. My friends were amazed, and showered praises on how well the golf course is maintained.

Bearing this as an example, I feel that we should also appreciate and commend the Management for their efforts in preserving and enhancing the Club’s facilities.

Again, in the spirit of Ramadhan and Hari Raya Aidilfitri that will soon be upon us, I wish all my colleagues and friends ‘Selamat Hari Raya, Maaf Zahir Batin’!

Thank You.

a Swimmin' good time!the 2013 national Sportexcel Swimming Championship’s first and second legs, held on 11-12 May at the Pusat Akuatik darul Ehsan in Shah Alam and 15-16 June at the Pusat Akuatik Hang Jebat in Melaka respectively, witnessed swimmers from all over Malaysia contesting 48 events in three age groups.

Organised by the National Sports Council (MSN) and the Amateur Swimming Union of Malaysia, the national level event this year saw many KPGCCians making their debuts, bolstered by the enthusiastic support from their families. The first leg saw 53 swimmers from KPGCC, while 17 swimmers engaged in the second leg.

Hazel Ho Jia En succeeded in achieving a medal in both legs, despite competing against older swimmers and together with Chong Yi Siang, Chong Yi Shin and Nur Iman Sofiah, all four finished their races in point scoring positions for the Club. Meanwhile, the second leg saw double celebrations as it coincided with Father’s day and also the birthday of swimmer Chia Vern Kye, which was celebrated with a big birthday cake.

Meanwhile, a delighted Coach Zalah said, “I am very happy to see the level of support given by the parents whose kids just joined the competitive program, and I hope they gained valuable experience in preparing and swimming for a race. Some of them were upset as they were

disqualified in their event, but it is all part of the learning curve. Most of the swimmers had improved their personal best timings and I hope they continue to train hard and do better in the next competition.”

“I am happy that many parents see the benefits of

competitive swimming and are willing to commit the time and effort. KPGCC has always been

supporting the SportExcel development program and the team, and we wish them all the

best in the next competition.”iSMaiL iBRahiM

Ball In Motion Deflected or Stopped

knowtheruleswith deborah wong

Rule19

Q. in strokeplay, a player took a stroke and her ball hits her trolley. What is the ruling?a. She incurs a penalty of one stroke when her ball hits her own equipment and must play the ball from where it comes to rest.

Rule19-2 By Player, Partner, Caddie Or Equipment If a player’s ball is accidentally deflected or stopped by himself, his partner or either of their caddies or equipment, the player incurs a penalty of one stroke. The ball must be played as it lies, except when it comes to rest in or on the player’s, his partner’s or either of their caddies’ clothes or equipment, in which case

the ball must through the green or in a hazard be dropped, or on the putting green be placed, as near as possible to the spot directly under the place where the ball came to rest in or on the article, but not nearer the hole.

Q. in strokeplay, a player accidentally hits the wheel of her bag trolley with her club whilst making a stroke. What is the ruling?a. There is no penalty. The player was obviously entitled to move her equipment before making her stroke as with any other movable obstruction. However, there is nothing in the Rules that penalizes a player from hitting their equipment during a stroke.

“There is no surer or more painful way to learn a Rule than to be penalized once for breaking it.”
