    DCM

  • So for those of you who didn't make to ICON for some reason, I have heard

from of my friends on the board that were there, and this is what they said,

Chester Pham, Division 21: Icon was amazing! We got to meet people from

all over and bond as a district. Our very own Kelsie Hoppes was elected as an

International Trustee. ICON will be in Anaheim next year. I hope to see you

guys there! Hakikat Bains, District Secretary: International convention 2013

was a wonderful experience full of education, spirit, service, and key club! As

the Pacific Northwest District, we had the chance to explore our amazing na-

tional capital. From museums to zoos to the beautiful architecture, the tour

was a whole different learning experience in itself. PNW showed their spirit

strong at ICON representing our mighty moose back home! We met dedicat-

ed members from around the world and made lifelong memories. If you ever

have the chance to attend an International Convention, take the opportunity

to learn and explore with Key Club! Alan Yeh, Division 32: ICON was an abso-

lutely amazing experience. I got to meet Key Clubbers from around the world

and learned a lot from the workshops. D.C. was a remarkable city to visit and

I would love to go back even though it was extremely hot and humid. I can't

wait for ICON 2014 in Anaheim!

    Tacoma Rally.

For those of you who didn't go to Tacoma rally, it was amazing! Tons of food! There were a bunch of great workshops, not as many games, but the ice-breakers were great. And the club members got to hit the board members with water balloons! Over all Tacoma rally was great, and I'm so looking forward to next year, and I hope all of you can make it, cause Athena did a great job setting everything up! And it would not have been as great if it hadn't been for her! Thanks everyone, have a great day!

With the Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. Neonatal tetanus kills one baby every nine minutes, nearly 60,000 newborn children every year. A significant number of women also die due to maternal; tetanus. The effects of the disease are excruciating, tiny newborns suffer repeated, pain-ful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch.

To eliminate MNT from the Earth, 129 million mothers and their future babies must be immunized. This requires vaccines, syringes, safe storage, transportation, thousands of skilled staff and more. It will take $110 mil-lion and the dedicated work of UNICEF and every member of the Kiwanis family.

Kiwanis and UNICEF joined forces to tackle iodine deficiency disorders, achieving one of the most significant public health successes of the 20th cen-tury. Now, together, they are eliminating MNT from the face of the Earth. In doing so, the project will reach the poorest, most neglected mothers and babies with additional lifesaving health care. The end of this one disease means the beginning of better health for so many families.

    What is key club?

Key Club is the largest service leadership organization in the world. Key Club empowers its quarter million youth mem-bers to lead and serve in al-most 5,000 clubs in 24 na-tions. Providing more than 12 million service hours annually, Key Club proves to be an ever-popular high school organiza-tion for teenagers seeking to cultivate leadership skills, de-velop friendships, and perform service in their communities. Since the first Key Club at Sac-ramento High School (California) in 1925, Key Club members demonstrate a pas-sion for helping others and de-velop excellent leadership skills they carry with them for a life-time.

STUDENT-LED Key Club is an organization of individual Key Clubs and is funded by nominal dues paid by every member. Its officers are high school leaders elected by the members at district and International Conventions.

INCLUSIVENESS The requirements for Key Club membership are set forth in the By-laws of Key Club Inter-national. Specifically, Key Club membership is open to any student who desires to become a leader in his/her school and community and wishes to provide service to others.
