Happy July, wolves! Another

wonderful month of service has gone

by. July was a great month for

Hoover. We had back to back events

with ChildS.H.A.R.E., an organization

that finds homes for children. We

worked with the Salvation Army and

sorted cans for hours. We helped out

at the Angeles National Forest and

weeded invasive plants that had the

potential to wipe out our native plants.

We put fundraising on pause to focus

on giving back to our community, but

seeing as how the school year is upon

us in less than a month, we'll jump

right back into fundraising for PTP!

It's been a great month and I am so

proud of my members. There was an

increase in participation and I could

not be more proud. I hope everyone

has had a successful July and I can't

wait to see what August has in store

for the Paws of Fury!

our President

The Articles

At Angeles National Forest, we

drove up the hillside to an area

where we picked a highly invasive

species of plant called Spanish

broom. The reason we did this is

the foreign weeds, in this case the

Spanish broom, take up space and

nutrients that the native plants need

to grow and flourish. So by

uprooting and removing the seeds

from the Spanish broom, we reduce

the number and stop the spread of

this invasive weed. We were there

from 8:30 to 2:30, in the hot sun on

precarious hillsides, moving along

and removing the weeds with

shovels and pickaxes.

Hoover Key Club had spent at least 5 hours for 6 days folding, inserting, and labeling 4,200 newsletters for the Childshare Gala. The Gala is an event where people gather to donate large sums of money toward aiding children. Our club looks forward to volunteering at the Gala in September. We had spent hours in an office performing monotonous tasks like folding envelopes and newsletters, inserting the envelopes into the newsletters, sealing the folds, and labeling addresses. Not only were we able to save the foundation money, but we had a great time helping out. The people in charge of the newsletters were very appreciative of our efficiency and dedication.

Working at the local Salvation Army

allowed us to make a direct impact on

the wellbeing of under privileged people.

The present harsh economic times has

led to many families struggling to find

food to eat. We were able to help the

Salvation Army sort the different types

of foods so that it would be easier to

distribute its contents to the people in

need. We had a great time sorting and

looking through foods, we found

appreciation for the food that we get to

eat every day.

At Pasadena's Heritage 35th

anniversary, we combined with

John Marshall and Glendale

High to help out with the event.

We helped set up tables and

signs. We were given lunch as

reward and all our hard work

went to a good cause. It was a

great experience for key club and

we hope to do it again next year.

Member of the Month This is the second time Mary has been named

member of the month. She absolutely deserves it.

She has been consistently attending our club events

and has even brought in new people to attend! Mary

encouraged her friends to go to our events and they

loved it. They also consistently attended events,

which is awesome! The more the merrier.

Because of her help and the company she

brought, our events have been more fun and

efficient. We got to do our work a lot faster now that

our club participation has boosted up! Our club has

helped a lot of people so much in one month and I

am so incredibly proud. Thanks to Mary, her friends

have discovered the beauty of Key Club and hopefully

they can encourage other people to join as well! Once

again, great job Mary!

Cayla Teng is fairly new to her position as Hoover

High’s bulletin editor but she has been doing a

fantastic job. She is totally the right person for the

job! And look, Jeannie obviously loves her! I can’t

blame her though; she has a great attitude, has

been responsible and incredibly hardworking. She

has attended almost all the Key Club events this

month such as helping out at Child S.H.A.R.E. in

Glendale, where we were asked to organize

invitations for their annual gala and fold 4,200

newsletters, and also helping out at the Salvation

Army food drive, where we had to sort canned

goods and other foods. Cayla’s participation has

been enormously beneficial to both our club and

our community here in Glendale. Cayla was born

to do amazing things and the club is blessed to

have such an amazing bulletin editor! Yay, go

Cayla!
