A Message From Pastor DavidIve heard all my life that the foundation of a good education is built on the threeRs reading, riting and rithmetic (The only way to spell and make the clichwork). Foundations are important in our Christian faith and life as well. Someonesaid life is all about relationships. I call it the fourth R, the R of Relationships.

Jesus modeled the importance of relationships throughout His life. The mostimportant relationship was His relationship with His heavenly Father. Throughout

His life He would withdraw to spend time alone with God in meditation and prayer. Many times we are told thatthe disciples would awake and find Jesus had risen before them and they would find Him alone, in a quiet placespending time in prayer with God His Father. We also read of Him withdrawing from the disciples at the end of the day to spend time alone with God. One ofthe great stories in Scripture is after feeding the five thousand, He made the disciples get into a boat and go aheadof Him to Bethsaida. He then left them and went up on a mountainside to pray. And during the last hours beforebeing arrested, we see Jesus going in the still of the night to the Mount of Olives to spend time with none otherthan God, His Heavenly Father.

Jesus second most important relationship was with His disciples. The first thing He did when He started Hispublic ministry was to establish life-long relationships with twelve men. He called them to join Him . . . and join

Him they did. For three years they became His constant companions. In addition to these twelve, He had otherimportant relationships as well: Lazarus, Mary and Martha to name a few. He cherished those relationships. They were not only His disciples whom He was teaching and preparing to carry the good news of the Gospel tothe world, they were His friends. In fact He called them His friends. For three years they shared the struggles andjoys, the excitement and sorrows of life with Him. They were His family! Where He went they went. So dear werethey that He chose to spend His last free night with them in the upper room. It was there that He told them tolove each other as I have loved you.

What is Jesus message to us today? This: Our Christian faith and life is built on two indispensible relationships our relationship with Him and our relationship with one another. Dont kid yourself! If you truly love God youwill spend time with His Son Jesus. If you truly love God you will spend time with His friends . . . fellowbelievers.I always have to wonder when someone says they are a Christian but they dont spend time with God in worshipand prayer. I always have to wonder when someone says they are a Christian but they dont spend time with

Gods friends in fun and fellowship.Hmmm . . . Its not about guilt! Its about Relationships. Its about the foundation of our Christian faith and life;the foundation that will ensure a healthy and growing spiritual journey. How are your relationships?

    Just thinking.. Pastor David

Expressions of Worship:But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed, knowing from whom you learned

    -II Timothy 3:14a, ESV

Most of the instruction I remember from my childhood never came from lecturesimposed by well-intended parents; they came in the form of life lessons. More timesthan not, they came under the hood of the car as dad and I changed an alternator, listening to mom talk in between a series of stitches on the sewing machine, or

overhearing kitchen advice given to my older sisters as they dealt with the pressures of high school life. Isuppose that in my late teenage years I questioned much of what I was told by way of specific speeches; but Irarely recall ever doubting the genuineness and sincerity of those casual conversations. The reason? My bestguess is that it had something to do with seeing these lessons in action instead of what I perceived to being puton.I believe that we gain in spiritual matters through similar imparted wisdom and active examples, and both playan important role. Let me be clear. A new Bible study or small group may not have the most lasting impact foryour life; those living room conversations, backyard cookouts, or grocery store exchanges may make as muchof a lasting impression on a decision in your life or in the life of others as will a Sunday morning worshipservice. But does this mean that our time of corporate worship and Bible study is irrelevant? By no means!Surprisingly, what I am beginning to grasp is that those life lessons I saw communicated in my childhood weregrounded in a greater understanding of truth that was simply being expressed in those lecture-scenarios of life.In the same way, our times of corporate meetings and group studies are crucial to providing an accurateworldview so that we may be as helpful to family and friends when those life lessons are being depicted. Bothformal as well as informal instructions play a great role in our spiritual growth.Since we all have opportunity for influence, we must take the responsibility of discovering truth seriously inour own lives. Whether through your personal study of Gods word or in your regular participation in weeklyworship services, it remains vital to your effectiveness for the cause of Christ. Whether you find yourselfoffering advice on Facebook or offering a word of encouragement to someone who is hurting, remember that

they may remember much of what you share in those times of simply living life together as much as they willrecall a sermon or a song lyric; and the things that you share in those times need to be an accurate portrayal ofGods truth. I believe one of the most detrimental things that we can do as a church is offer advice orencouragement that has no biblical basis. I hope and pray that the life lessons in which you are privy to will befound to be truthful and stand the test of time, much like those I received as a child.

If Saturday morning will not work for you, see me for other options. This group is a great way to get connected

and have some accountability. I have included the June 21st devotion from Men of Integrity.

Key Bible Verses:Bravo, God, bravo! All angels shout, "Encore!" In awe before the glory, inawe before God's visible power. God thunders across the waters. God's thunder tympanic,God's thunder symphonic. (Psalm 29:1, 3-4, The message) Dig Deeper: Psalm 29

Nikola Tesla was one of history's most prodigious inventors. Tesla was granted more than a hundredU.S. patents. His most famous is the power system that supplies our homes with easy access toelectrical power via outlets. Every time you flip a switch, you owe Tesla a thank-you.Tesla had an idiosyncratic personality but one ritual in particular is both revealing and inspiring.During thunderstorms, he would sit on a couch near a window. Every time lightning struck and

thunder clapped, Tesla would rise to his feet and applaud God. It was one genius, lowercase g, givinga standing ovation to another Genius, capital G.For the record, there are approximately 2,000 thunderstorms on Earth at any given time. And thereare approximately 100 lightning strikes per second, or 8.64 million lightning strikes per day! That is alot of standing ovations. But according to [today's Key Bible Verses], the angels shout, "Encore!"after each one. When was the last time you clapped for the Creator? When was the last time you gave him a standingovation? When was the last time you were so awed by the night sky or snowcapped mountains orocean waves that you worshiped the Creator in wide-eyed wonder?

Prayerfully consider joining us on Saturday mornings.

    Eternal Youth

    Greetings, my church family!

Our camp was an absolute success. We were really able to see God movingin the lives of the 19 young people we took to Ridgecrest, North Carolina. The 1500 kids at our week of camp raised 11 thousand dollars for missions. One neat way that the kids could help with missions was to buy a very stylishwatch. If you are interested, the website is www.hello-somebody.com. Thewebsite has all the information you would need.God really took over that week of camp. There were many decisions madethat week. Some of the decisions were for rededication, while others werefor desiring to surrender completely to God and His calling. The one thingthat was felt by every student was to know Christ on a more personal level.

If we have been a Christian for any length time, we can all give the Sunday school answer to the question

Who is Christ? The question becomes a little more difficult when the question is slightly changed to

Who is Christ to you? This is no longer a Sunday school answer. It is asking you to take what you havelearned from your parents, teachers, and pastors and using that information to help you develop a real,

    personal relationship with Jesus.

This was the challenge I gave to the students on the first night of camp: find out who Jesus is to you

personally. It is also the challenge I would like leave with all of you. Our relationship with Jesus is

supposed to be about more than church a few times a week and praying before we meet. Like any

relationship, it is supposed to involve communication and quality time spent together. Take some time

over the next few weeks and figure out who Jesus is to you, personally.

Thank you again to all of you for supporting and praying for our teens.

    Stepping out in Faith,Derrick Whiteman
