North Sydney History WalksMap collection available now!

North Sydney has a remarkable number of beautiful and interesting historical sites to visit, despite the many changes that affected the area in the 20th century and the ongoing pressure of development in more recent times.

A new series of 10 History Walks maps will introduce locals and visitors to the heritage of North Sydney, on the principle that walking a landscape is the best way to get to know it. The maps cover much of the LGA: Cammeray, the CBD, Cremorne Point, Crows Nest, Kirribilli, Milsons Point and Lavender Bay, Neutral Bay, ‘Old North Sydney’, Waverton and Wollstonecraft. They are ‘circle walks’ which will bring the walker back to, or near to, the point of departure. The closest public transport access points are highlighted. An indication of accessibility, degree of difficulty and length is given for each walk.

Printed maps are available to purchase as a set of ten for $5.00, or can be downloaded free of charge from www.northsydney.nsw.gov.au/walks.

To celebrate the launch, Council Historian Dr Ian Hoskins will lead a free History Week guided tour of the Neutral Bay Walk on Friday 6 September from 10am-12pm. Online bookings for all History Week events open on Thursday 1 August.

Family History Help Desk First three Fridays of the month, 10am-12pm The Heritage Centre hosts regular free sessions to provide assistance to individuals researching their family history. Staff and volunteers are available to give one-on-one assistance using the resources of the library and those available on the internet. For bookings, phone 9936 8400.
