Transcript of July August Newsletter
-
Lets see, we have
celebrated Lent, Easter, and
presently, we are in the season of
Pentecost. Its about halfway to
Advent and Christmas. Today is
bright, sunny, and muggy. School
is almost out and if you are out of
school you are ready for some
down time. Everyone it seems is
ready for a break, a change. Dont
we all deserve a littler personal
down time? Our time is precious.
Isnt it a wonder that we
have time for God at all? Even
when you factor out how hard you
work everyday theres always
something more to do grocery
shopping, traffic to contend with,
dealing with financial matters,
doctors appointments, childrens
schedules to contend with, and the
list goes on and on.
Greet ings From Fr. Chuck
Being Love
Our Pentecost Season
reminds us that we are Gods
people who act on Gods behalf in
the world. The love of nature is a
part of the delight that God gives
us. During Pentecost we will
consider who we are and who we
represent.

Newsletter
What time do you
schedule in your life as God
time? We are finding out that
more and more people dont
find time for God at all. And at
best a prayer here and there
and a Sunday worship is the
best we have to offer.
But the truth of the
matter is that God is part of all
of our time. The question now
for us Christians is Where do
you find God in your time?
Once I heard it said that
Christians never retire. None
of us ever takes time off from
being a Christian. On these hot
muggy summer days we do
well to remember this.
During these summer
days make time to become
fully immersed in Gods time
and presence. If you do this
We are the people of God
who act on behalf of God in our part
of the world. Just as Jesus taught that
matters of the heart matter. Our
hearts are filled with Gods grace and
love. God has given us the beauty of
creation to enjoy.
As people of faith, we are not
those who hear and dont act, not those
who speak and dont act. As we enjoy
these summer months let us celebrate
creation and Gods love and always
consider how we might be love to
others.
you should be prepared to be
surprised by God even when
you are at rest.
Are you ready for a
vacation? Dont find time for
God? If you are living a life of
faith and discipleship, God is
already in the time that you
have. Yes, things seem to slow
down during the summer but
they dont wind down
altogether. Make good use of
the time you have with God
and your spiritual energy will
grow.
Can you recognize God
in your life while playing in the
sun? Can you recognize God
participating in your life while
doing daily tasks? Summer is
meant to be enjoyed. So enjoy
your down time as God walks
with you this summer.

A God-created super star
God made...the great light to rule the day (Genesis 1:16: NRSV). The first
biblical description of Creation reveals that God made the suna truly amazing body of light.
At the suns center (where the temperature reaches 15 million degrees!), every second, 600
million tons of hydrogen fuse into 596 million tons of helium. The 4 million missing tons
become sunshine, making life on earth possible. The suns magnetic field (which reverses
direction every 11 years) and the resulting sunspots and solar flares impact the earth in ways
most of us rarely think about.
Writes Dennis Overbye in the New York Times: In all of recorded history, as far as scientists
have been able to tell, the suns output has varied by only a tenth of a percent. If the sun
were more volatile, like many stars, earth would either burn up or freeze at regular intervals.
As you spend time outside this summer, give thanks for this bright marvel that God designed.
Mighty to save
Dr. Kent Brantly, a U.S. medical missionary who contracted the Ebola virus last summer in
Liberia, credits a mighty God - and lots of prayersfor his survival. After recovering from
the disease, Brantly returned to the North Carolina headquarters of Samaritans Purse, the
group hed been working with in Africa.
He spoke about Deuteronomy 6, saying its important to remind others of Gods acts. I will
never grow tired of talking of this, Brantly said. Im going to keep telling my story so I can
remember what God has done in my life.
Then Brantly offered this challenge: Never think youre just a normal person. If youre
pursuing Gods calling in your life, he will use you. Even if its a challenging calling, even if you
find yourself in difficult circumstances, he will give you what you need to be faithful to him,
even if its a whole army of people praying for you. Share your story over and over and over
so you can remember we serve a mighty God.
Our Daily Bread
received a donation in
memory of Ray
Herrington from his
wife, Ilene. We were
informed that Ray loved
peanut butter. Our Daily
Bread was able to purchase
144 jars of peanut butter for
our pantry. Rays love of
peanut butter lives on!
Thank you.

Emmanuel Episcopal Church Christian Education Report
by Lynne Walton
This past year of Sunday School went well as long as we had students able to
attend. There were 10 children listed on the attendance sheet, and there was an average of 4 students per
class for the 14
classes. The Seasons of the Spirit curriculum for multi-age classes was used to present stories and crafts to
match the readings for the Sunday services. After the first of March attendance dropped off, so a packet of
the lesson stories and crafts were mailed to 35 families for the Lent and Easter Season.
The Easter Egg Hunt was very well attended, with about 30 people attending the hunt inside the
Parish Hall (due to snow and cold weather). The children gathered 350 eggs and went home with full
goodie bags. A second packet of Seasons of the Spirit stories and craft instructions were sent to the
families with the lessons for Pentecost.
Dr. Roger Allen is the professor of Arabic
Literature at the University of Pennsylvania. He
preached and led a coffee hour discussion about
interfaith cooperation at St. Matthews as they
hosted a three parish worship on May 31, 2015.
