NEW JERSEY’S LAST SERIES BACK IN THE SHOW: Raul Valdes, who pitched for the Jackals in 2006, was called up to the major leagues by the St. Louis Cardinals from Triple-A Memphis on June 23. Valdes, a Cuban defector, made his major-league debut last season when he appeared in 38 games with the New York Mets. With Memphis this season, the 33-year-old had posted a 3-0 record with a 0.55 ERA in 14 games since shifting from the rota-tion to the bullpen in mid-May.

WE’RE GOING STREAKING: During their recent eight-game winning streak, which ended on Wednesday, the Jackals outscored their opponents 48-20. In those eight games, New Jersey starting pitchers allowed just 11 earned runs in 53.2 innings, good for a 1.84 ERA. The Jackals’ longest winning streak last season was six games (July 22-28) when they swept a pair of three-game sets against Sussex and Brockton.

MR.400:Manager Joe Calfapietra collected his 400th regular-season win with the Jackals on June 20 in game two of a doubleheader against the New York Federals. Calfapietra entered the season with 386.

POWER SURGE: The Jackals tied a franchise record when they launched five home runs in a 10-4 win at Rockland on June 19. Mike Jones and Jeremy Slayden each homered twice while Leonard Davis also left the yard. Twice before in franchise history had the Jackals tallied five home runs in one game: July 18, 1998 at Adirondack and July 28, 1999 at Massachusetts. New Jersey homered 10 times in the three-game series.

FLYING EAST: When the Augusta, N.J.-based Sussex Skyhawks announced they would not be operating in 2011 this past winter, several former Skyhawks made their way to the New Jersey Jackals. EdOtt, who man-aged the Skyhawks in 2010, returned to the Jackals, where he served as a coach from 2007-09. Players migrating from Augusta to Little Falls include reliever Jared Locke, and infielders KrisSanchezand Nick Giar-raputo. The Skyhawks were owned by Floyd Hall En-terprises, which also owns the Jackals.

WELCOME BACK RAMON: Former Jackals infielder Ramon Nivar has joined the Jackals coaching staff. Nivar, a veteran of 10 professional seasons, was in spring training with the Newark Bears this past May before announcing his retirement. The 31-year-old spent parts of three seasons (2003-05) in the majors with the Orioles and Rangers and played 23 games for New Jersey in 2008.

OPENING ACT: After their 8-4 win at Pittsfield on Thursday, May 26, New Jersey is 11-3 (.786) all-time on opening day. The Jackals have now won their season opener nine times in the past 10 sea-sons, with the lone loss during that span coming last year. The Jackals also won their fourth straight home opener on May 31 when they downed New-ark 7-6.

FORMER JACKALS IN SPRING TRAINING: In addi-tion to Oakland A’s reliever Craig Breslow (with New Jersey in 2004), who is currently in his sixth major league season, several former Jackals appeared in major league spring training games. 6-foot-7 right-hander Stuart Pomeranz (2009) posted a 3.86 ERA in three relief appearances for the Los Angeles Dodg-ers. Southpaw Raul Valdes (2006) appeared in seven games (one start) for the St. Louis Cardinals. First baseman John Lindsey (2005-06) went 1-for-4 for the Dodgers. Righty Jon Hunton (2007) made one relief appearances for the A’s.

LittleFalls,N.J. – In the opener of a two-game series, the New York Federals plated the game’s first five runs and held off a late New Jersey Jackals’ rally as the Jackals fell 9-7 in front of a crowd of 2,902 on Saturday night at Yogi Berra Stadium.

Against southpaw Jon Kibler, who made his Jackals’ debut, the Federals jumped out to a 5-0 lead after five in-nings. New Jersey plated four runs in the sixth inning on a Mike Jones sacrifice fly, a passed ball, and a two-run home run to right field by Jeremy Slayden to make it a 5-4 contest, but the Federals struck back with four of their own runs in the top of the seventh with reliever Mike Petrowski on the mound to gain a 9-4 advantage.

The Jackals rallied back in the eighth inning with a two-run homer off the bat of Myron Leslie and an RBI double by Nick Giarraputo to cut the deficit to 9-7, but Federals’ right-hander Jon Shepard entered in the ninth and retired the top of the New Jersey lineup in order to notch his third save of the season and help the Federals (8-27) secure their fifth win in their last nine contest.

Federals’ starter James Kukucka (2-1) earned the win, allowing four runs on six hits in 5 2/3 innings. Kibler took the loss after surrendering five runs on seven hits in five innings.

For the Federals, third baseman Brad Jackson went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs while designated hitter Robert Dyer went 2-for-3 and scored three times.

Jackal Bites: Slayden’s home run was his team-leading seventh of the season while Leslie connected on his sixth of the year… New Jersey went 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts as Leslie swiped his ninth of the season, setting a new career high for the eight-year veteran… Nick Giarraputo has hit safely in each of the five games on the Jackals’ current homestand.

LittleFalls,N.J. – In a game that was delayed three hours due to rain and field conditions, the New Jersey Jack-als erupted for a season-high in runs and hits in an 18-0 win against the New York Federals on Sunday evening at Yogi Berra Stadium.

The Jackals opened the scoring early in the first inning when Mike DeJesus launched his first home run of the season and Myron Leslie walked and came around to score on an RBI double by Mike Jones. New Jersey added on two more runs in the second inning on back-to-back RBI groundouts.

The Jackals continued to pour it on in the third when they scored four runs on three hits, highlighted by a 2-RBI single by Argenis Reyes. In the fourth inning, Nick Giarraputo drove in two runs on a two-out double to increase the lead to 10-0. In the fifth inning, DeJesus and Leonard Davis hit back-to-back solo home runs.

The Jackals’ dominance of the Federals’ continued in the sixth when they scored five unearned runs. In the in-ning, Jones lined a grand slam over the fence in right field for his seventh home run of the year.

New Jersey closed the scoring in the eighth when Leslie ripped an RBI double that scored DeJesus.

Lost in the offensive shuffle was New Jersey starter James Leverton (5-2) who earned the win by throwing seven innings and not allowing a run while giving up just three hits. Luis Pardo (0-3) took the loss after the Jack-als tagged him for 10 runs on 10 hits in 3 2/3 innings.

Jackal Bites: For the second time in three games, DeJesus fell a hit short of the cycle, missing it by a triple… DeJesus and Leslie each reached base five times… The Jackals pounded out 12 extra-base hits…With the loss, Luis Pardo is now 1-20 for his career... The 20 hits and 18 runs were a season-high for New Jersey… Chris Ander-son replaced Leonard Davis in the top of the sixth inning and went 2-2 with an RBI.
