First Reading A reading from the Book of the Prophet Ezekiel.

As the LORD spoke to me, the spirit entered into me

and set me on my feet, and I heard the one who was

speaking say to me: Son of man, I am sending you to

the Israelites, rebels who have rebelled against me;

they and their ancestors have revolted against me to

this very day. Hard of face and obstinate of heart are

they to whom I am sending you. But you shall say to

them: Thus says the LORD GOD! And whether they

heed or resist—for they are a rebellious house— they

shall know that a prophet has been among them.

Responsorial Psalm R. Our eyes are fixed on the Lord, pleading for

his mercy.

-To you I lift up my eyes,

who are enthroned in heaven,

As the eyes of servants,

are on the hands of their masters. (R)

So are our eyes on the LORD, our God,

till he have pity on us. (R)

-Have pity on us, O LORD, have pity on us,

Second Reading A reading from the Second Letter of Saint Paul to

the Corinthians.

Brothers and sisters: That I, Paul, might not

become too elated, because of the abundance of the

revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, an

angel of Satan, to beat me, to keep me from being

too elated. Three times I begged the Lord about

this, that it might leave me, but he said to me, “My

grace is sufficient for you, for power is made

perfect in weakness.”

I will rather boast most gladly of my weaknesses,

in order that the power of Christ may dwell with

me. Therefore, I am content with weaknesses,

insults, hardships, persecutions, and constraints, for

the sake of Christ; for when I am weak, then I am

strong.

Gospel A reading from the Holy Gospel according to

Mark.

Jesus departed from there and came to his native

place, accompanied by his disciples. When the

sabbath came he began to teach in the synagogue, and

many who heard him were astonished.

They said, “Where did this man get all this? What

kind of wisdom has been given him? What mighty

deeds are wrought by his hands! Is he not the

carpenter, the son of Mary, and the brother of James

and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his

sisters here with us?” And they took offense at

him. Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without

honor except in his native place and among his own

kin and in his own house.”

So he was not able to perform any mighty deed there,

apart from curing a few sick people by laying his

hands on them. He was amazed at their lack of faith.

GOSPEL MEDITATION

God comes in common ways through common things

and ordinary people. Sadly, we are so engulfed in our

little worlds of order and ideas to notice the beauty

and wonder of it all. Many have numbed themselves

to the Divine spark at the essence of all life because

that's just the way it is.

If we're looking for god to come in an event that is so

dramatic and intense that it knocks our socks off, then

think again. When pondering god's relationship with

His people and God's action in our lives, we have to

go back to the stable and the recurring, creative,

unending power of God's presence.

It was a quiet, run of the mill kind of night. There was

nothing spectacular or

extraordinary. To the naked

eye, a woman gave birth to a

child and there wasn't

anything extraordinary to

see. We have a hard time

understanding God's

ordinary-ness. Jesus grew up

in an ordinary town, had

neighbors and did normal

human things. Perhaps that's

why we don't always like the

Gospel. It doesn't dazzle us

with extraordinary things but

simply challenges us to take

a different look at our ordi-

nary stuff. That makes us uncomfortable. We prefer

things as they are. Our lack of faith can even cause us

to take offense at what

Jesus says and does, dismissing it as folly.

Our personal agendas, preconceived ideas,

misconceptions, and expectations can often cause us

to be hardened and blinded to what God is doing or

desiring to do. While god continues to do what he has

done for all eternity, faith is needed for god's

presence to bear fruit.

The blinders we wear and the expectations we bring

to life can often prevent us from seeing graced

moments that radiate with god's graceful presence.

They also prevent god's transforming, healing, and

hope filled vision for our world from being realized.

Without faith, god won't be able to do much for us

either.

MEDITACIÓN DEL EVANGELIO

Dios viene de maneras comunes a través de cosas

comunes y personas comunes. Lamentablemente,

estamos tan absortos en nuestros pequeños mundos de

orden e ideas que no nos damos cuenta de la belleza y

la maravilla de todo. Muchos se han adormecido a sí

mismos con la chispa Divina en la esencia de toda la

vida porque así son las cosas.

Si estamos buscando que Dios venga en un evento

que es tan dramático e intenso que nos deja

boquiabiertos, entonces piénselo de nuevo. Al

reflexionar sobre la relación de Dios con su pueblo y

la acción de Dios en nuestras vidas, tenemos que

volver al poder estable y recurrente, creativo e

interminable de la presencia de Dios.

Era una noche tranquila y corriente.

No hubo nada espectacular ni

extraordinario. A simple vista, una

mujer dio a luz a un niño y no había

nada extraordinario que ver. Nos

cuesta entender lo ordinario de Dios.

Jesús creció en un pueblo común,

tenía vecinos e hizo cosas humanas

normales. Quizás por eso no siempre

nos gusta el Evangelio. No nos

deslumbra con cosas extraordinarias,

sino que simplemente nos desafía a

dar una mirada diferente a nuestras

cosas ordinarias. Eso nos incomoda.

Preferimos las cosas como son. Nuestra falta de fe

incluso puede hacer que nos ofendamos por lo que

Jesús dice y hace, descartándolo como una locura.

Nuestras agendas personales, ideas preconcebidas,

conceptos erróneos y expectativas a menudo pueden

hacernos endurecer y cegarnos a lo que Dios está

haciendo o deseando hacer. Mientras Dios continúa

haciendo lo que ha hecho por toda la eternidad, se

necesita fe para que la presencia de Dios dé fruto.

Los anteojos que usamos y las expectativas que le

damos a la vida a menudo pueden evitar que veamos

momentos agraciados que irradian la graciosa

presencia de Dios. También evitan que se haga

realidad la visión transformadora, sanadora y llena de

esperanza de Dios para nuestro mundo. Sin fe, Dios

tampoco podrá hacer mucho por nosotros.

Primera Lectura Lectura del Libro del Profeta Ezequiel.

En aquellos días, el espíritu entró en mí, hizo que

me pusiera en pie y oí una voz que me decía:

“Hijo de hombre, yo te envío a los israelitas, a un

pueblo rebelde, que se ha sublevado contra mí.

Ellos y sus padres me han traicionado hasta el día

de hoy. También sus hijos son testarudos y obstina-

dos. A ellos te envío para que les comuniques mis

palabras. Y ellos, te escuchen o no, porque son una

raza rebelde, sabrán que hay un profeta en medio

de ellos”.

Salmo Responsorial R. Nuestros ojos están en el Señor, esperando su

misericordia.

-A ti levanto mis ojos,

a ti que habitas en el cielo.

Como están los ojos de los esclavos,

fijos en las manos de sus señores (R)

fijos en las manos de su señora,

así están nuestros ojos en el Señor, Dios nuestro,

que estamos saciados de desprecios;

Segunda Lectura Lectura de la Segunda Carta del Apóstol San

Pablo a los Corintios.

Hermanos: Para que yo no me llene de soberbia por

la sublimidad de las revelaciones que he tenido,

llevo una espina clavada en mi carne, un enviado de

Satanás, que me abofetea para humillarme.

Tres veces le he pedido al Señor que me libre de

esto, pero él me ha respondido: “Te basta mi gracia,

porque mi poder se manifiesta en la debilidad”.

Así pues, de buena gana prefiero gloriarme de mis

debilidades, para que se manifieste en mí el poder

de Cristo. Por eso me alegro de las debilidades, los

insultos, las necesidades, las persecuciones y las

dificultades que sufro por Cristo, porque cuando

soy más débil, soy más fuerte.

Evangelio Lectura del Santo Evangelio según San Marcos.

En aquel tiempo, Jesús fue a su tierra en compañía de

sus discípulos. Cuando llegó el sábado, se puso a

enseñar en la sinagoga, y la multitud que lo escuchaba

se preguntaba con asombro:

“¿Dónde aprendió este hombre tantas cosas? ¿De

dónde le viene esa sabiduría y ese poder para hacer

milagros? ¿Qué no es éste el carpintero, el hijo de

María, el hermano de Santiago, José, Judas y Simón?

¿No viven aquí, entre nosotros, sus hermanas?” Y

estaban desconcertados.

Pero Jesús les dijo: “Todos honran a un profeta,

menos los de su tierra, sus parientes y los de su casa”.

Y no pudo hacer allí ningún milagro, sólo curó a

algunos enfermos imponiéndoles las manos. Y estaba

extrañado de la incredulidad de aquella gente. Luego

se fue a enseñar en los pueblos vecinos.
