St. Paul's Parish sponsored a trip to NYC last

weekend for our Masters of Ceremony as a way to give back to them. These young leaders help run and train the altar server program of 65 kids.

The group visited Ground Zero, Central Park, and other locations in NYC. When they visited St. Pat-rick's Cathedral, they were able to meet and chat

with His Eminence, Cardinal Dolan.

Friar Tim

This summer our parish was blessed with the presence of Friar Tim Blanchard. Sadly, this is his last Sunday with us. While here, he was involved in a lot of different minis-

tries. He has gone on sick calls, assisted at weddings, been present and greeted people after Mass, but primari-ly he has been involved in our youth ministry initiatives and has had a huge impact on our young people. While

we are sad to see him go, we know that it is important that he continue his academic and Franciscan formation. We wish him the very best, and hope that in the future he

will be able to stop by and keep us all up to date on his progress. Friar Tim, thank you so much for saying yes to our Lord. May the Lord who has begun good things in

you bring them to fulfillment. I hope that everyone will take the opportunity to say goodbye to Friar Tim this weekend. He will be at all of the Masses. We need to be

grateful for his “yes” to God and to be resolved more and more to pray and promote vocations in service of the Church. By the way, the video presented before Mass was a Friar Tim creation.

Where Have You Been, Fr. Robert? Two weekends ago I had a four day vacation, then I at-

tended the Steubenville East Youth Ministry Conference with a number of young people from our parish. Last weekend, I was in NYC with the Masters of Ceremony.

This weekend, I am beginning a five day vacation. The following weekend I will be attending our Youth Ministry Core Team Retreat in Litchfield, CT. The retreat will help

those involved with our Youth Ministry Program get to know each other better, and they will also begin planning for the launch of our High School Youth Group. That’s where I’ve been and where I will be. Hope you are hav-

ing a great summer. The Masters of Ceremony

Last weekend, Friar Tim, John Imbimbo, and some of the other Core Team members visited NYC with a group of our altar server Masters of Ceremony. We stayed Friday

and Saturday nights at one of our Franciscan churches in Brooklyn and spent Saturday visiting the city. Everyone who went had a great time and we are very grateful for

the hospitality of the Friars we visited. It is so beautiful to see how slowly, but surely, our young people are becom-ing more and more involved in the life of the parish.

To run a successful program, we need registrations completed by August 15 so we have time to recruit and train volunteer teachers, purchase materials and create class lists. we need your help! We see this as a wonderful Saint Paul Parish community event where your time and sup-port is welcome! If you are interested in volunteering your time at the Berlin Fair, please consider signing up for several needed positions before and during the fair. Consider putting your favorite social or committee group together and sign up as a team for similar shifts! Although we’re weather reminds us that we’re still in the warmth of summer, it’s time to begin planning our 10th annual Italian Night. Last year our parish family raised a significant amount of money to enable our Youth Ministry Program to continue its worthwhile work. This year the proceeds from our annual event

will again help to fund the many programs and initiatives that benefit the youth of our parish. It takes many hands to make this evening as successful as it always is. The next meeting of the Italian Night Committee will be held on Thursday, August 10th at 7 p.m. in St. Paul’s church basement. If you are able, please plan on joining us. People are needed to help out in the following areas:

QUILTERS AND CRAFTERS We meet in the St. Paul Parish Hall on Wednesdays at 9:30am, Please join us. We have ongoing projects.

PRAY THE ROSARY: WEEKDAY MORNINGS at St. Paul Monday - Friday at 7:30am, following Mass. WEDNESDAY EVENINGS at Sacred Heart The Rosary is prayed Wednesday evenings at 6pm. A CHILDREN’S ROSARY is held on the first Saturday of the month at 10am at Sacred Heart Church (about 25 minutes), followed by refreshments downstairs. The group will not meet in August, but will resume on Saturday September 2nd.

Why do we have a liturgical season called ordi-nary time? Can you explain? Ordinary time is the longest season of the liturgical year. It begins the Monday after January 6, the Epiphany, until the Tuesday before Ash Wednes-

day. That period can last anywhere from 5—8 weeks, depending on when Easter is celebrated. Ordinary time picks up again the Monday after Pentecost Sunday and lasts from 23—27 weeks, until the end of the liturgical year, the Saturday before Advent begins. The name "Ordinary" is not in contrast to "extraordinary" or "special" but rather stresses the Latin language notion of "ordinal" or numbered Sundays. The Latin title for the season, "tempus ordinarium," conveys the sense that this time of the year is measured or numbered time, which can allude simply to the numbered Sundays, or the notion that these Sundays are a "measured" time to deepen and im-merse ourselves completely in the realities of Jesus' incar-nation, ministry, passion, death, and resurrection. Ordinary time offers us the measured opportunity to con-nect the ordinary lived experiences of our lives with those of Jesus, who modeled for us how to live a truly human existence. As we experience the season of ordinary time, let us immerse ourselves in task of deepening our relation-

ship with Christ in the ordinary events of life.
