Félicitations The Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord (CSCFN), in partner-ship with Destination Réussite II (a Ministry of Education initia-

tive), has been attracting attention thanks to an online project for collaborative music creation between students across the province. This innovative project has been such a success, that the organizing team was invited to present at a conference in Montreal and an annual global conference in Nashville, TN.

The iStudio21 project, inspired by the similar Rock our World project, allowed Grade 7 to Grade 12 francophone students across Ontario to collaborate online in the creation of a song. Starting with a simple base melody, the participating students progressively created a full song using their preferred device and the Garage Band application. This gave access to virtual instruments, sound effects and also allowed students to record themselves playing their own instruments, thanks to various technological equipment. Students submitted percussion, bass, keyboard, guitar, violin, harmonica and voice tracks on an online platform offered by Desire2Learn (D2L). Progressively, each winning track was added to the base melody by the organizing team and the result was resubmitted on the platform before moving on to the next vote. The end result was a unique song, entitled Un nouveau monde (A New World), which reflects the realities of our ancestors or new immigrants in Ontario.

The project lasted 14 weeks and 83 students from 12 Ontario schools were registered. same room and live a memorable and authentic recording experi-ence. The organizing team was invited to present the project on May 1st and 2nd at the Sommet francophone sur l’iPad en education in Montreal, and in-vited to present the project at the annual Fusion Desire2Learn Global Users Conference, in Nashville, Tennessee, from July 14th to 16th.

The team is composed of Gilles Cuillerier, Technopedagogical Facilitator for CSCFN, Janique Vaillancourt, Technopedagogical Facilitator for Destination Réussite II (a Ministry of Education initiative for the improved performance of Grade 7 to 12 students) and Jean-Luc Proulx, Project Officer for Destination Réussite II.
