The structure of a consultation may look something like this.

First, check whether it is a repeat purchase or a first-time purchase.

The store pharmacist may want to deal personally with customers who are asking about using VIAGRA CONNECT for the first time, or may delegate the Pharmacy Checklist completion to pharmacy team members.

In both instances, introduce yourself and explain you will have to ask some questions, and the pharmacist may come and speak to them.

CONSULTATION ADVICE

Check your customer knows how to use VIAGRA CONNECT. The dose is one 50-mg tablet, once daily to be taken approximately an hour before intended intercourse.

Remind them to see their GP for a follow up within 6 months of first purchasing VIAGRA CONNECT.

Encourage all customers to read the leaflet carefully and stop taking it if they notice any side-effects such as chest pains, persistent/painful erection, sudden decrease/loss of vision, allergic reaction, skin reactions, seizures/fits.

Complete the Pharmacy Checklist to ensure VIAGRA CONNECT is suitable, checking the customer’s symptoms and confirming they’re affected by erection problems.

You need to clarify that the customer is affected by erection problems, and not another issue, such as premature ejaculation. This can be done by checking their symptoms.

Take them through the Pharmacy Checklist, noting down their responses to all the questions.

Q: How long has it been since you last purchased this product?

Q: Have you seen your GP since you started using this product?

Q: Have there been any changes to your health since you last purchased VIAGRA CONNECT?

Q: Do you still feel fit enough to climb a couple of flights of stairs? (This question helps assess fitness)

Q: Have there been any changes in the medication you are taking since the last supply? (If it was some time ago, it may be beneficial to go through the checklist to make sure.)

Q: Have you had any problems or side-effects when using this before?

With repeat supply, if nothing has changed in terms of the medication or medical history, you may sell the product after pharmacist authorisation. The customer should be reminded to see his GP within 6 months of the initial supply of VIAGRA CONNECT if he hasn’t already.

About skin conditions

Eczema

In the UK, around 15 million people have atopic eczema (or atopic dermatitis), a chronic skin condition that causes dry, irritated skin that can be itchy, red, cracked and sore. It varies greatly, from small patches of affected skin to large areas of the body which are itchy and painful. ‘Flare-ups’ are a common part of the eczema experience, when a sufferer’s condition becomes noticeably worse. At these times, they are likely to need different treatments and skin care regimes.

What causes eczema flare-ups?

Many factors can make eczema worse. These may include:

• Irritants such as soaps, detergents and other chemicals

• Heat, dust, woollen clothing and pet allergies

• Being unwell

• Stress

Dry skin

Almost everyone suffers with dry skin at some time. Dry skin becomes problematic when it leads to itching, cracking or bleeding. Then it can become uncomfortable, painful and at risk of infection.

Factors affecting dry skin:

Very frequent hand washing and the use of alcohol-based sanitisers can lead to very dry skin on the hands

Summary of Terms

1. Where accounts have been approved for credit, payments are due 30 days from the month of invoice.
