The new processes for contact tracing and temperature checking, in accordance with our Industry COVID Safe Plan, worked well. Other than these changes the night was much the same as always, very enjoyable with good food, drink and companionship. Again Andrew, thank you and thank you to everyone who supported him. I have visited each of the activity groups during the week and although there are fewer people attending, all seem happy with the new contact tracing and cleaning requirements. It is the committees intention to keep going as we are while we all come to terms with the risk that COVID poses for us personally and how each of us intend to manage that risk in the future. Once we know better what services and activities members would prefer and importantly the volunteers available to provide those services, we will review the halls operations, especially the Friday night meal. We hope to start this conversation at the August general meeting, so come along and have your say. In regard to the new boating facility for Poona, on Wednesday 22 July 2020 the Fraser Coast Council meeting unanimously voted to: Advise the Department of Transport and Main Roads of Fraser Coast Regional Council s in principlesupport for the project and request that the feasibility report and preferred conceptual design layouts be used as the basis of a joint pre-lodgement meeting with relevant State Agencies”. The feasibility report included changes recommended at our community consultation sessions and public submissions made via the FCRC. They include a floating 2.5-metre-wide floating walkway on the upstream side of the ramp, toilet block, lighting and contingency funding for CCTV if required. These changes increased the project cost estimate to $4.1M including a 40% contingency. Further detail will be provided in the next Planning update and there is also a press release at: https://www.frasercoast.qld.gov.au/news/article/897/poona-boat-ramp The Poona Community Infrastructure Plan has been completed and we are working with FCRC and their consultant to have it presented to us in a forum that allows a thorough explanation of the report as well as a chance for us to ask questions. With more than 100 attendees expected, this is proving difficult with the COVID restrictions in place. Please stay tuned for updates. Thank you to every one who covered for me over the past 6 weeks and I hope to see you all at the General Meeting at 2pm on 08 August 2020. Please think about how you would like the Association to operate in a future with COVID. Until then, stay safe and all the best. Jon

EVERY MONTH

FOR OUR

COMMUNITY

Hello again,

I want to start by thanking the volunteers who gave the hall a thorough clean before it reopened for activities and Andrew Elder and his team for running our first post COVID Friday night.

It is the committee’s intention to keep going as we are while we all come to terms with the risk that COVID poses for us personally and how each of us intend to manage that risk in the future. Once we know better what services and activities members would prefer and importantly the volunteers available to provide those services, we will review the hall’s operations, especially the Friday night meal. We hope to start this conversation at the August general meeting, so come along and have your say.

In regard to the new boating facility for Poona, on Wednesday 22 July 2020 the Fraser Coast Council meeting unanimously voted to: “Advise the Department of Transport and Main Roads of Fraser Coast Regional Council’s “in principle” support for the project and request that the feasibility report and preferred conceptual design layouts be used as the basis of a joint pre-lodgement meeting with relevant State Agencies”. Further detail will be provided in the next Planning update and there is also a press release at:

The Poona Community Infrastructure Plan has been completed and we are working with FCRC and their consultant to have it presented to us in a forum that allows a thorough explanation of the report as well as a chance for us to ask questions.

Poona Merchandise For Sale We have some great polo shirts, kids T shirts and caps (in 2 colour combinations) that will be for sale on Friday nights. The shirts are available in a range of sizes and are embroidered with a special Poona logo. You will be able to have a look at these at the hall on Friday nights and you can purchase using cash or cards.

If you have moved to Poona as a full time resident, we would like to give you one of our “New Residents Packs”. We have not done this for some time due to the Covid19 restrictions. You will receive some handy ‘Poona specific’ information, fishing and boating info, garden info, brochures on social and cultural activities on the Fraser Coast, fire safety info and a host of other useful information. As well, you will get a hand made reusable fabric shopping bag and a Poona stubbie holder. We even give you a voucher for a free main meal and dessert for two at the hall so you can come down on a Friday night and meet some of our friendly locals. If you have a neighbour who is a new resident, please let us know and we will make arrangements to make contact as well. Phone Jenny 0412.928123 or email at [email protected]

Solicitor from Seniors Legal Service to visit Poona – August 11

Current Covid-19 restrictions are making our Young at Heart get-togethers very difficult. We have therefore taken the difficult decision to postpone until Tuesday the 11

th of August when

activities should be easier.

We have secured a wonderful guest speaker, Alison Chappell, from Taylor Street Community Legal Service and Seniors Legal and Support Services. She will update us on the changes to the new Enduring Powers of Attorney legislation which comes into effect on the 1

st of August. Alison is also happy to answer

questions you may have around Wills or Advanced Health Directives. She will bring pamphlets and new forms, if they are available by then. So it would be helpful if she knew how many to bring.

The hall is restricted to 40 people inside to comply with the 4m2

per person Covid-19 requirements. Knowing numbers in advance will also help with catering. We take pride in providing a lovely hot and cold morning tea for $2 and we don’t want anyone to miss out. Please ring Lyn Corser on 0447 488 081 or 4129 8691 to book a seat.

FISHING REPORTS WILL BE UNDERWAY AGAIN SOON!!!

Poona gets a Green Light from Council for a New Boating Facility on Poona Creek

It's now 3 years on since the Community Workshop of April 2017 set the Planning sub-committee the task to get an improved boating facility for Poona. During those years there has been considerable lobbying of Government agencies and preparation of many submissions and supporting documents leading to the joint Feasibility Study undertaken by Transport and Council. We just reached a big milestone with Council, at their meeting on 22 July, adopting unanimously 'in principle' support for the recommendations of a joint Department of Transport and Fraser Coast Regional Council Feasibility Study. In the final Feasibility Study many recommendations from the community workshop of 29 February were adopted and have now been incorporated in the concept designs taking the total project cost in the vicinity of $4.13 million. More work is still to be done by Transport and Council, particularly in relation to land tenure. More details and document links are available on the Planning Webpage The steps from this point involve a number of State Government agencies and our State Member Bruce Saunders has indicated that with the weight of community support for a new facility and Council's in principle support he will assist in every way possible in progressing approvals through the relevant State Agencies.

If you have any questions you can contact the Planning sub-committee by Email
