July 2019 Lunch Menu

Water is the basis of life. Water keeps our mouth, eyes and nose moist. We need water to digest food and prevent constipation. As we get

older, our sense of thirst can change. When you don’t physically feel thirsty, you may become dehydrated.

Indicators of dehydration include a mouth that feels dry, fatigue or a headache; advancing to periods of confusion, weakness and dizziness.

Drinking fluids is usually sufficient to treat mild dehydration. Taking small, frequent amounts of fluids rather than forcing large amounts at

once. When dehydration is recognized and treated promptly, one will soon feel much better.

These are some techniques to increase fluid intake. Caffeine and alcohol are diuretics , so when having either, have extra water to balance

the dehydrating effect. Try drinking decaffeinated coffee, or tea, or even just warm water.

Consuming water-based foods count. Fruits and vegetables are a natural source of water, along with valuable vitamins and minerals.

Reduce the sodium intake in your diet. Salty foods can make you excessively thirsty and can also lead to bloating.

Kilawaii volcano since the original eruption in 1983. Other

Tuesday Movie, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel

Tuesday, July 9, 12:30 pm

The film follows a group of British retirees who decide to

"outsource" their retirement to less expensive and seemingly

exotic India. Enticed by advertisements for the newly restored

Marigold Hotel and bolstered with visions of a life of leisure;

they arrive to find the palace a shell of its former self. Though

the new environment is less luxurious than imagined; they are

forever transformed by their shared experiences; discovering that

life and love can begin again when you let go of the past.

Run time 124 minutes

In August, the heartwarming sequel to this movie will be shown.

Yankee Air Museum

Tuesday, July 9, 10:00 am

The stories of “How Detroit Saved the World” and “Rosie the

Riveter” are told on the site where they happened some 70 plus

years ago. The Museum has 47,000 sq. ft. that houses its

collection of permanent and rotating aviation and historic

displays as well as over 5,000 artifacts. Join John Drews for a

highly informative look at the role Detroit played in the war

effort and beyond. There will be a slide show and a free raffle

to win passes to the museum or 4 tickets to the 2019 Thunder

Over Michigan Air Show at Willow Run on August 3 & 4th.

Wow, thank you John Drews!

CBD Hemp Flower Talk

Wednesday, July 17, 9:30 am

Join Matt Callis, (AKA Matt the Geek) for an introduction to

CBD Hemp Flower. CBD flowers come from industrial hemp

plants and contain many of the beneficial cannabinoids and

terpenes (if not more) found within CBD oil. People who prefer

CBD buds claim they work better for them due to the abundance

of cannabis compounds, which work together to produce more

lasting and noticeable effects. Much like CBD oil, hemp flower is

believed to have many beneficial effects that can be used to

alleviate issues like chronic pain, anxiety, sleep troubles, and

more. This is not a product that affects your faculties in any

way.

Lenawee County) that safely tests your balance skills while

Getting to Know The ASC...

The ASC Code of Conduct

Center participants have the right to enjoy programs and receive

services in an atmosphere that is pleasant, safe and without

disturbance from other participants. To ensure that the senior

center is an enjoyable experience for all who use it, disruptive or

disturbing behavior is not permitted. Senior centers are intended

for older adults who are able to function independently. The

center is unable to offer personal care support. Any participant

needing personal care support must have their own support

person with them to take care of personal care needs. Senior

center staff is also unable to provide one-on-one supervision

due to behavioral, physical, or health related reasons.

Be Present and Accounted For!

We determine program popularity by tracking the number of

participants attending activities or classes. Attendance records

also explain and justify the need for our center to the

community with substantive data showing usage by members.

We need your assistance to ensure our records are accurate. You

can help by making sure you sign in on the roster for each

activity. For example, in the Computer Room when using the

computers or the Internet, in the Pool Room when playing pool,

and in Room 2 when using the exercise equipment, computer,

puzzles, cards or Wii. If you are participating in several activities,

ensure that you sign in at each location and for each program.

Thank you for helping to ensure that your favorite activities

continue. The ASC Office is available to provide assistance or

clarification.

Please Help Us Keep Our Files Up-To-Date

Stop by the ASC office and get your picture taken, make sure we

have updated contact information including cell phone number

and emergency contact information. Thank you!

Funding

The Adrian Senior Center is part of the Lenawee Department on

Aging and Lenawee County. Financial support through

fundraising activities and donations provide for additional

activities and programs.

Center Closure Policy

It is the policy of the Adrian Senior Center to open and fully

operate its programs as scheduled. The effects of severe weather

and concern for the safety of our participants may, however,

lead us to close the center. When this or closing for any other

reason occurs, media announcements regarding closures or late

openings will only be made on WLEN Radio-103.9 FM, and

WABJ-1490 AM. You may also call 517-263-3585 for updates.

Note: The Adrian Senior Center’s decision to close or remain

open is made independently from local school districts. There

may be occasions when schools are closed, yet the ASC is open.

Our Mission

“It is the mission of the Adrian Senior Center to be THE place in

Adrian and surrounding communities for adults age 55 and over

to stay healthy and fit, to connect, to build new skills and to join

a community. Together we are better!”

Membership

The Adrian Senior Center is open to anyone 55 years of age and

older. Anyone participating in Adrian Senior Center activities,

programs or services is considered a member. There is no annual

membership fee to be part of the Adrian Senior Center, however

a completed registration form is requested. Blank registration

forms are available at the ASC office.

Computer and Free WiFi

We have high speed, wireless Internet and computers available

for member use in Room 4 available at no charge.

Free Lending Library

The library is located within the Adrian Senior Center. There are

no fees, no checkout, and no time limit when a book is bor-

rowed. Please return when finished. Books may only be pur-

chased at one of our many book sales throughout the year.

Watch for dates and times in the monthly calendar. It is the

mission of the Adrian Senior Center Library to maintain books

for the enjoyment of the participants of the Adrian Senior Center.

Memorial Contributions

A Memorial Donation to the Adrian Senior Center is a special

way to honor the memory of a loved one, family member, or

friend. We are honored when families and friends choose to

remember the Adrian Senior Center during such a difficult time.

Contributions support the services and programs provided by the

Adrian Senior Center for older adults in our community.

Memorial donations totaling $100.00 or more in honor of a

loved one will grant a lasting remembrance on the ASC Memorial

Tree. A golden name plate with date will be added to the ASC

Memorial Tree, which is located in the foyer of the Senior Center

in their memory.

supporting through member contributions. Unlike other organi-

zations, OA is not just about weight loss, gain or maintenance;
