Factory Tour and lunch. Take a self guided tour

at one of the area’s top tourist destinations. After

visiting the gift shop you will travel to Baxter’s

Boat House for lunch. $5.00, non refundable

POWERFUL TOOLS FOR CAREGIVERS

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is a free six (6) week

educational program, beginning in July, designed to

help take care of you while you are caring for a relative,

friend, or loved one. You will benefit from this class

whether you are helping a parent, spouse, friend, some-

one who lives at home, in a nursing home, or across the

country.

Week 1: Taking Care of You

Week 2: Identifying and Reducing Stress

Week 3: Communicating Feelings, Needs, and Concern

Week 4: Communicating in Challenging Situations

Week 5: Learning from our Emotion

Week 6: Mastering Caregiving Decisions

Cost: The Program is provided at no cost by Coastline.

Care for your care recipient may be available during

your participation in the program. For more information

LEGAL SERVICES

The Senior Law Project is available to provide free legal

help to low income and elderly clients and victims of

crime. Priority is given to legal matters identified in the

Older Americans Act. These include: "income

maintenance issues, health care, long-term care, nutri-

tion, housing, utilities, protective services, defense of

guardianship, abuse, neglect, and age discrimination."

mation and education. Denture adjustments and

One of life’s most urgent and important

questions, what are you doing for others? Please

consider joining an active group of Superhero

Boomers and volunteer at GiftsToGive a few hours a

week. It’s a total DROP-IN and right on your door-

step in Acushnet. Open for volunteers six days a

week 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday,

Thursday and Friday 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on

Wednesday and Saturday.

Everyone has a skill to share from sorting books,

children’s clothes/toys, displaying/restocking the

Saturday Thrift Shop or behind the counter to name

POLISH FEST

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church’s

Annual Polish Festival will be held rain or shine on

Saturday, 14th from 11:00 a.m.—8:00 p.m. and

Sunday, July 15th from 12:00—5:00 p.m. (polka

mass, 11:00 a.m.).

Continuous live entertainment, and the famous

Polish kitchen featuring pierogi, golombki, kielbasa

and kapusta, along with assorted games. Fun for the

entire family, free parking.

50+ JOB SEEKERS

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

Funded by Massachusetts Associations of COAs,

this program teaches participants to develop a

resume, marketing plan & job search, preparing &

strategies for an interview, networking, create a

Linkedin Profile, and more.

Cofacilitators are needed to help make copies, email

reminders and be present at each Acushnet meeting

on the third Tuesday of every month from

1:00-3:00 p.m. to sign participants in and help them

complete paperwork. The group is led by a profes-

sional job coach who facilitates the actual meeting,

no public speaking will be required. For more

MEMORY CAFÉ VOLUNTEERS

Memory Café is a welcoming place for individuals

with Alzheimer’s or any type of the dementias to find

a unique social situation with others who are facing

similar experiences.

Volunteers are not required to have experience with

dementia or dementia care to help. Start by consider-

ing what talents you have to offer or are interested in

sharing and let us know!

All volunteers will need to have a successful CORI

on file with the town before being allowed to partici-

pate in Memory Café. Initial and ongoing trainings

SAMARITANS OF BRISTOL COUNTY VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY

The Samaritans provide a free and confidential Suicide Prevention and Crisis Hot Line staffed by caring, trained

volunteers available seven days a week. This service provides unprejudiced and nonjudgmental support to those

who are alone, depressed or in crisis. Everyone can find a caring empathetic ear at The Samaritans of Bristol

FLAG DAY CELEBRATION ~ THANK YOU

On Thursday, June 14th the Acushnet Council on Aging held a Flag Day Celebration at the Senior Community

Center . We’d like to take this opportunity to thank those who partnered with us to make the event such a success

including, The Acushnet Fire Department and Chief Gallagher, Outreach Specialist Patricia Midurski and Richard

Mandeville.

PHARMACY OUTREACH PROGRAM

The Pharmacy Outreach Program is a free service for

Massachusetts residents provided by MCPHS

University and the Massachusetts Executive Office

of Elder Affairs. Case managers and pharmacists

ensure that residents can afford medication and take

medication correctly.

Pharmacists can provide a clinical review of the

medications you take and trained case managers can

help reduce medication costs and explain Medicare

coverage and assistance.

NEW HORIZONS SENIOR CHORUS

Calling all vocalists and music

lovers! The New Horizons Senior

Chorus is moving to the Acushnet

Senior Community Center this Fall

and is looking for new members to join. Starting

September 13th, rehearsals will be held on

MAH JONGG TOURNAMENT

The Annual Mah Jongg Tournament will be held on

Tuesday, August 28th from 10:00 a.m.—3:00 p.m.
