July is a busy month!
Vacation Bible School is upon us! Once again, Mt. Olive engages in a ministry that is both fun and faithful. We get to tell the Good News about Jesus and have a good time doing it!
This year, we’ll be telling about Jesus in these Bible stories:
It’ll be a great time. Right now, though, it’s time for heavy-duty preparation. Here are some needs. Toilet paper and paper towel rolls Bubble wrap with small bubbles Roll of green paper Volunteers… We’re always in need of volunteers
Here are some dates to save… July 5, 6, 7 Neighborhood Canvassing beginning at 7 p.m. Go out for an hour, distribute
flyers. Water is provided
July 9 Preparation for set up and decorations
July 10 Set up and Decorating day
Each year, it’s always amazing to see the people of Mt. Olive and their friends teaching about Jesus, herding from place to place, and serving in God’s Kingdom. No doubt this will be another great year!
Did I mention we need volunteers?
VBS’s long-standing support of Timon’s Ministries will continue this year. Again this year, through support from the church and VBS parents, we hope to make several bags I like to call Homeless Kits for Timon’s to distribute to clients. I hope to have a list of items on Sunday and throughout the week.
The National Youth Gathering is July 16-20 in New Orleans. Departing early on July 16 will be Katie Jennings, Michael Jennings, Summer King, Kristine Regalado, Dawn Johnson, and me. This year, Summer and Kristine will be running the Gathering 5K on Sunday morning. Katie has been selected for the Gathering Choir which will sing in Tuesday night’s communion service. We’ll also be doing an on-site service project on Sunday afternoon. Look for an exciting recap on Sunday, July 27.
My thanks for the congregation’s great support through donations and fundraisers! Look for pictures to be sent throughout the gathering.
This is also the month for the regular convention of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. This time the convention will be held in Milwaukee. This year’s delegates from the coastal bend are our own Leslie Vlisides and Pastor Dustin Beck from Trinity.
As always at this time of year, if you’re traveling, don’t bypass attending the divine service at one of our sister congregations. A search on lcms.org will be mighty helpful. The electronic giving option for contributions is available 24/7.
In Christ, Pastor Kevin Jennings

ELDER’S NOTE
Greetings from the board of elders, in the name of our risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
It is July. It is summer. It is humid. It is hot. It is time for Vacation Bible School at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church! From 9:00 AM until Noon, Monday July 11th thru Friday July 15th, Mt.Olive will host a Barn-yard Roundup focusing on Psalm 23 for pre-school thru 5th grade. This is the perfect opportunity for each and every one of us to evangelize by inviting the children of friends, neighbors, co-workers and anyone else you may know, giving the children an opportunity to know and learn more about our Lord. Think back in time (for some us a long time ago and may-be not so long ago for others) and remember your time at vacation bible school. Was it fun? Was it exciting? Was it fulfilling? Did you learn about the Bible and Jesus? Of course the answer to all of these ques-tions is yes and that is why we should do our part in bringing children to Mt. Olive for that same experience.
Your board of elders is in the early stages of going thru the entire membership list of Mt. Olive. The purpose of this is basically twofold. First, we need to better identify members who have fallen away from the church so that we may be better evangelists and pray for all and en-courage those still living in the area. Secondly, we need to redistribute members to specific elders with the addition of Bud Sage as an elder. This may take some time but rest assured we will publish and make eve-ryone aware of the new elder lists as soon as we have completed our work. As always, we encourage you to come to your elder with any con-cerns, comments or troubles. If you do not know who your current elder is, please check the list posted in the narthex or the 2015 church direc-tory.
Pray for the children of Mt. Olive and children everywhere so that they may come to know and love Jesus Christ. Pray for Pastor and his family so that he may continually guide us to the truth of the Triune God. Pray for our homebound members and our ill and distressed members. Pray for and remember all who have served our country to keep it free, al-lowing us to celebrate our nation’s independence on July 4th each and every year. The board of elders asks that you pray for us that we may better serve our God and all His children at Mt. Olive.
Lastly, have a safe and enjoyable 4th of July!
