Council Notes for the Spotlight at Peace
The May meeting minutes are available within the body
of the newsletter. If you should have any questions
regarding these meetings, do not hesitate to call Pastor
Matthew or any of the council members. Contact infor-
mation on the front page of the newsletter.
The council is your voice.
The Peace Wish List will be posted on the bulletin
boards in the fellowship area. Add anything you would
like the council to consider.
The response to the Peace Parking Lot Project has been
enlightening. Thanks to the diligent work of the
committee, the project is on target for 2015. Updates
will be given by the committee on a regular basis so all
within the church family are informed of the progress.
Various maintenance tasks are being considered by your
council at the present time. They include: a thorough
cleaning of the carpet in the fellowship area, follow
through on the insulation of the new addition of the
fellowship hall which was approved last year and con-
necting with the vendor(s) over the contracting of LP
fuel for our winter heating seasons. All these are
necessary tasks for keeping up the church property.
Discussions are ongoing for the fall worship schedule
and educational plans. Watch the newsletter for details
later this summer.
Mid-year assessment of the approved 2015 budget was
done at the June meeting. The financial secretary
reports at each meeting of the monthly offering and
expenses. An updated budget was discussed and
approved at the beginning of the year, which more
appropriately budgeted for our congregations half of
Pr. Matthews insurance contribution, but did result in a
total negative budget for the year of $8,748. This
increase may reflect/impact our end of the year finan-
cial status if the monthly offerings remain status quo.
A three to five dollar difference per week collectively
makes a huge difference. Mjf
YOUth News
OUR 7th-12th grade will be adventuring into service
work 5 hours north of Barrett, in Winnipeg Canada, as
they work at a warehouse sized food Shelf that serves
our northern neighbors for 3 days, and then return
right here to Barrett, to paint our local food establish-
ment, the Barrett Inn. We have 3 adults and 10 youth
attending, and hope you can keep us all in prayer 6/29-
7/2!
OUR ELCA Youth Gathering Team is in its final
prayers and preparations, as they leave late evening July
13th to head to Detroit, and will be returning the night
of July 20th.
Both groups will be excited to share their experiences
upon their return!
Save the Date
Please mark Wednesday evening, August 19th on
your summer calendars. The annual Immanuel
Church Sing Along will be held at Peace Church.
Planned is a great evening of music, worship and fel-
lowship. Contact Marilyn Frykman if you are available
to volunteer for the fellowship hour.
Church Bus Driver Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are still needed to drive our church bus so
that some of our shut in church members can get to
services on Sunday morning. In order to be a driver, a
medical card from the MN Department of Public safety
must be completed by your family physician. This is a
fairly simple and generic form very similar to ones our
school bus drivers must complete. These forms are
available often times at your medical clinics or from the
MN D.O.T. web site.

Stewardship of the Good News
Recently a seminary friend of mine was humming an unfamiliar to me but obvious-ly childrens tune, so I asked her what the words were she said:
Oh be careful little eyes what you see, oh be careful little eyes what you see! For the Father up above is looking down with love; so be careful little eyes what you see.
It continues with little ears what you hear, little mouth what you say, little hands what you do. Since then it has gotten stuck on repeat in my brain. Problem is, I think the song is wrong or at least the motivation behind it is wrong.
God indeed is watching us with love, but thats not the reason we are careful of what we see, hear, say, and do. We dont behave because were afraid of the consequences of getting caught. We dont live moral lives because it makes God happy (though it does.) We are careful of what we see, hear, say, and do because the world is watching.
We say it at every baptism as we light a candle, Matthew 5:16, Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.
Its the reason for some of the Psalms, May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face to shine upon us, that your way may be known upon earth, your saving power among all nations. (Psalm 67)
Because we hold on to the name of Christ, we are Christs ambassadors in this world. We may be the only Bible anyone ever reads. So if we are hateful and
judgmental, what does that say of the God we follow? If we are selfish and close-minded, how can we talk about a God who loves all?
The world watches when tragedy strikes, both in natural disasters and in hu-man-driven disasters like the church shooting in Charleston. The world looks for hope, and its the ones who bear Christs name who embody that hope to a hurting and broken world. How we respond in times of crisis speaks to the way God is present as well.
Were definitely not perfect in representing God and yet, God chooses to use us as his messengers. God chooses us to carry his love into the world. And God keeps washing us clean for the times when we see, hear, say, and do hurtful things to those around us (or when we sit by in silence as they happen to others).
So, in Pauls words from Ephesians 4 and 5, Put away from you all bitterness and wrath and anger and wrangling and slander, together with all malice, and be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiv-ing one another, as God in Christ has for-given you. Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children, and live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us.
Thoughtfully, ~Pastor Matthew
