Program Information

Soldier to Supervisor

In this hour-long presentation, Sabrina Baker will discuss the role of HR professionals in helping veter-an candidates transition from soldier to supervisor or whatever open role fits their background. With more than one million military personnel expected to transition to civilian life in the next few years, the job market will be flooded with candidates whose experience is heavily military -based. Unfortunately, veteran candidates are among some of the most overlooked and misunderstood. HR professionals struggle to translate military experience into qualifications they need to fill open roles in their organization. Veteran candidates struggle to explain how their experiences in the military will help them do the job at hand. The result? Companies and veterans both end up frustrated trying to find the proper fit – an employee or a job.

Heart of Illinois Human Resource Council Receives Prestigious SHRM Award

for Advancing the HR Profession

Peoria, IL June, 2015 — The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) recently awarded the Heart of Illinois HR Council its prestigious EXCEL PLATINUM Award for the CHAPTERS’s

accomplishments in 2014.

The award is part of the SHRM Affiliate Program for Excellence, which aligns individual chapters and coun-

cils with SHRM’s goals. The award recognizes accomplishments and strategic activities and initiatives that

enhance the human resources profession.

“At SHRM, advancing the human resources profession is our mission. The work of our chapters and

councils are central to accomplishing that,” said Henry G. (Hank) Jackson, president and CEO of SHRM.

“Receiving this award is testament to the Heart of Illinois HR Council commitment to advancing the HR

profession through local networking and professional development activities.”

The EXCEL award can be earned at four levels: bronze, silver, gold and platinum, and each level has a pre-

scribed set of requirements and accomplishments that have to be met. The Heart of Illinois Human Re-

source Council received the highest recognition in SHRM publications and conferences, a certificate of

recognition, and special signage to display at its meetings and events.

.

The Chapter began in 1948, under the leadership of H. Paul Hinds of the Hyster Company. At that time,

the organization was titled "Central Illinois Employers' Association Personnel Club."

The Heart of Illinois HR Council has approximately 100 members in all areas of the human resource

profession. Our members are executives, administrators, managers, independent consultants, and other

strategic partners.
