PRESIDENT’S REPORT MAY 2015

Another month has passed and I apologise for missing a report for June. Please note that the Hillclimb on 16th August is “The Esses” and not Mountain Straight as indicated on the BLCC website calendar. Traditionally this period in the year is quiet event wise on the bitumen and with the recent weather a blessing for our officials – this is not the case however at the quarry where good field are presenting and those people are to be commended for commitment. The members who officiate to facilitate are most appreciated. On the subject of dirt events there has still not been a resolve with regard to the anomalies surrounding NCR18a which pertains to carriage of passenger in Khanacross events and accordingly the decision taken by committee remains in place with regard to age limit of 14 years and above at this point. One of our members has been in contact with CAMS on several occasions with regard to the matter and continues to do so with regard to the delays by CAMS executive in dealing with the issue- further advice will be communicated as it comes to hand. For the information of those who may not be aware some extensive work has been undertaken at the quarry in recent weeks rectifying some of the tracks and Motorkhana ground –this was as a result of discussions between committee and club members. I take this opportunity on behalf of the club and members to thank Mark Hammond for his generosity which is over and beyond in contributing his time , effort and use of his equipment to undertake the work on our grounds at minimal cost to the club - thank you Mark. New Members:. Membership within the club continues to grow. This month we welcome new members: Joe Raso Mark Raso Grant Denyer Recently it has been bought to my attention that some members have concerns with regard to club issues/decisions relative, but not limited to, Quarry Events and are approaching another competitor with their concerns. In an endeavour to address and explain/resolve any concerns I ask that members please give me a call at any time on 0408659862 and I will listen investigate and respond to you asap. It will be noted that operational decisions are made by committee and not the president as an individual - a process which I hope is understood and respected. Alternatively and perhaps a more preferred and efficient option would be to come to a General Meeting and raise concerns where the expertise of many experienced members will be available for active discussion and explanation of reasoning and a clearer outcome will be achieved. Please do not be deterred as your input can be constructive in making our club better and more professional in operation .On another note the issue of scrutineering of vehicles competing in events at the quarry has become a cause of concern for some members- to that end it must be understood that the safety of members is paramount and the integrity of the scrutineers is accountable. In the event of an incident the responsibility ultimately comes back to the club and officials – the club needs/requires a standard to be re-established and maintained for the promotion of club events both internally and externally. The process is not focussed on any individual and an objective assessment must be applied in viewing the requirements- safety of all is the primary factor. The BLCC’s reputation and integrity must be maintained.

Page 4: July 2015 Blower - Homepage | Bathurst Light Car Club Robert Flood 0408 402 729 rflood51@gmail.com Secretary Donna Sims 02 6362 9784 jssims@bigpond.com.au Committee Aiden Hadley motorsportman@hotmail.com

If there is something causing concern or considered not to be working by any individual or group of members please raise it so steps can be taken to discuss and resolve- if we don’t know about it we cannot address it. Communication and interaction is the key to resolving concerns and moving forward. As done previously I ask that all members look at their diaries for 16th August to assist in some way with setup and running of the Esses Hillclimb either on the day or day before. If Scott Sims does not contact you (he cannot call every member) please call him on 0428 629 784 - don’t wait to be asked ,offer in advance and it will be appreciated. Scott unknowingly had a wrong number recently of a member wishing to assist- the call was wringing but not to where it was intended. If you haven’t assisted before don’t be shy it’s not hard and every extra pair of hands helps ease the burden on others as we are all busy. If you can’t get hold of Scott please call me. Come and see what is involved- volunteers are urgently needed to learn the administrative side of events. The general administration process is common to both dirt and bitumen events. Your assistance and input may/will assist in refining existing processes with younger skill sets and knowledge of technology. We welcome all – don’t be afraid you will be trained and supported all the way and not left on your own. CAMS Training .To assist in developing the qualifications and skills of our club members Nigel Buttriss has arranged and organised for CAMS to deliver a Scrutineers Course to be conducted in the Club Rooms on Saturday 8th August – we have I believe 10 starters at this stage. Lunch will be provided by CAMS for those attending. The CAMS courses are FREE . Expressions of interest for other courses are sought and will be welcomed with a view to give capacity for conducting other such courses subject to numbers – consider Club Chief. Stewards, Assessors etc . The courses will as mentioned above require sufficient numbers to make running economically viable both from CAMS and club perspective – talk among yourselves and consider benefits to both yourselves and others by you having the qualification which may contribute to the running of events in the future for benefit of yourself, family or friends. The qualifications once achieved are no burden to carry. Upcoming events for the month of August are the Khanacross on 2nd August and as mentioned the Esses Hillclimb on 16th for competition. Tony’s most recent Visual Navigation Trial event to have been held on Friday night 10th July was postponed due to weather to a date to be advised (16th October). It’s all good family style fun, not difficult and the Pizza at the end is good thanks to Michelle O’Toole and the Domino Team. Come along bring a pencil, rubber and a torch, (plus a friend or two) test your skills and try your luck- the more the merrier. PLEASE CHECK CALENDAR AND CONSIDER Mick Tuckey

WITH SADNESS

It is with sadness that we report the passing of Gary Fisher on Thursday 17/07/2015. Garry worked for Gurdon Motors before operating his own Used Car business, while at Gurdon Motors Gary was responsible for bring one of the Chanel 7Series TR7’s to MT Panorama in the early 1980’s for a Flying 1/5 where he narrowly defeated Alan Paul in his TR7. Sadly missed at 68.

OFFICIALS HEADING NORTH

With August approaching a large number of BLCC officials will head north for the 2015 Kidney Kar Rally starting this year in Alice Springs.

The officials will be joined by a number of members keen to take on the challenges of the Australian outback.

ALAN BARLOW BEST

Alan Barlow (Austin Healey Sprite) recorded a 2nd in class and 17th outright at Rd 7 NSW Hillclimb Championship.

The Round was held at Tamworth’s Oakburn Park hillclimb course, there were 41 drivers competing.

KING STILL NO ONE

Tony King (MX5) recorded another class win in the 2015 NSW Supersprint Championship held at Sydney Motorsport Park, Gardner Circuit.

Tony recorded a time of 1.51.67 for the class win and placed 55th of 107 drivers.

DENYER SHIELS BATTLE AT TOWNSVILLE

Club members Brad Shiels (Porsche 997 GT3-R) and new member Grant Denyer (Ferrari 458 GT3) went head to head at the 2015 Australian GT Championship as part of the Castrol EDGE Townsville 400.

The results of the first race in round three of the Australian GT Championship, presented by Pirelli in Townsville, have been altered significantly following a post-race penalty applied to the across-the-line winner.

The Porsche GT3-R of Andrew MacPherson and Brad Shiels crossed the line first to win the one-hour, 46-lap opening race of the weekend, however have been demoted to 16th place in the final classification via a post race penalty confirmed by race officials this afternoon.

They were adjudged to have not completed their Compulsory Pit Stop time duration and were penalised the equivalent time penalty of twice their allocated pit stop time, a total of three minutes and 12 seconds.

The Grant Denyer Ferrari 458 GT3 Photo from Australian GT news release

The penalty elevates the Maranello Motorsport Ferrari 458 GT3 of Tony D’Alberto and Grant Denyer to victory, Tony Quinn’s McLaren to second and the Erebus Mercedes-Benz of Geoff Emery and Max Twigg to third. It’s the first win for a Ferrari in the Australian GT Championship in a full year given D’Alberto and John Bowe won a race last year at the corresponding round in Townsville 12 months ago.

It’s also Denyer’s first win in the AGT Championship in just his second appearance with the Melbourne-based Maranello team.

He and D’Alberto will start Race 2 from pole position tomorrow with the final one-hour race of the weekend for AGT to be at 12.10pm local time.

The overall results saw Grant finish on top with Brad in 12th after the penalty although Brad would have been happy with the Q1 & Q2 times that saw Brad .1001 sec ahead – bring on the 12 Hour boys.

AUSSIE DUCT MOTOR SPORT- PIPE KING Both the Pipe King Escorts (1) David Hills/Paul Bennet and (2) John Hills / Mick Tuckey ventured to Batemans Bay to run in the Rally of the Bay 2015 on 11th July. We ran the event on pace notes however chose to do only 6 of the 8 stages due to the night stages which we were not equipped for – accordingly we did not rate in the official placings. It was a good event with excellent roads overall with the exception of couple of causeways – one was quite sharp. Stage 1 and 5 had a couple of slippery spots that saw a bit of carnage as was the case in other stages with some vehicle parked in quite precarious positions . It rained on the Friday when we did Recce and notes however the sun shone all day for the rally We had a trouble free run and are looking to running at Narooma on 1st August in the Narooma Forrest Rally- 8 Stages over 116 klm competitive (285 overall). The event is being conducted by the Brindabella Motor Sport Club.

ORGANISERS MESSAGE

Thank you for taking the time to read this message in relation to the Bathurst 200 Car Rally

which the organising team from the Bathurst Light Car Club are pleased to be able to host in

2015.

This year marks a milestone in the history of Bathurst as the community celebrates 200 years

since Governor Lachlan Macquarie proclaimed it as a settlement thus opening up inland

Australia to European settlement.

The Bathurst Light Car Club recognises the Wiradjuri people as the traditional owners of the

Land and I mention this as an enduring symbol of reconciliation.

The Bathurst Light Car Club was formed in 1953 and has enjoyed an important relevance

to the Motor Sport community, in Bathurst in particular, and more broadly Australia as the

Club has hosted events from Club level up to National titles in Rallying and Hill Climb. We

enjoy strong support from local business as well as the Bathurst Regional Council, NSW Police and the NSW Forestry Corporation without whose assistance we would be unable to organise the 2015 Bathurst 200 Car Rally.

We hope you enjoy the event this year and whilst in and around Bathurst take the time to

appreciate the wonderful community that many of us call home. We also hope that you

include this event on your annual motor sport calendar along with the many other events

the club runs throughout the year, all of which can be followed at;

www.bathurstlightcarclub.com.au or on our Facebook page.

The Bathurst 200 Car Rally has been designed to assist competitors to reduce the logistics of getting to and from the Rally by locating the Rally Headquarters, Start and Finish and the Service Park at the one venue at the Old Sunny Corner Forestry Camp 6kms from the Great Western Highway near Kirkconnell between Lithgow and Bathurst. This area is only around 2 hours drive from Sydney’s western suburbs.

Competitors, officials and spectators are invited to the Bathurst Light Car Club on Mt Panorama after the rally to participate in the Awards presentation.

We also take this opportunity to thank the NSW Rally Panel for their encouragement in

keeping a Bathurst Rally on the calendar and more particularly in motivating me to re engage

with organising this years Rally after a lengthy lay off due to work commitments.

We hope you have a safe trip to and from the event and achieve your goals whilst competing

as well as share with me in thanking the many officials who take time out of their busy

schedules to make the 2015 Bathurst 200 Car Rally a reality.

• Morning or afternoon flight opportunity in the Event Safety Helicopter, as they get ready for stages to begin and watch the leading WRC cars as they compete.
