A big IDEA for growing business profits. Hello! My name is DeWayne Landwehr. Since 2008 I have been the Executive Director of the Flagship Enterprise Center. In that role I have had the privilege of working with some of Madison County’s best and brightest entrepreneurs and business owners. Now I am pleased to expand that role to include IDEA, which I am developing and implementing under MCC leadership. Although MCC, the Flagship, and CED have worked together in the past, IDEA is taking us from simply cooperating in a somewhat reactive mode to collaborating proactively to reestablish some of the wealth that has been lost from this community over the years. This coordinated effort will allow us to assist a much larger potential market and have a bigger impact on improving the economic outlook of Madison County. I look forward to working closely with business owners and managers to help them identify and address key obstacles to growth and prosperity. Through the IDEA program, owners and executives will learn to work smarter, provide better service, and grow their businesses and our community. Are you ready to take your business to the next level? Let’s talk about what IDEA Academy can do for you. Academy classes will start in September. Contact me at (765) 622-0800 or email [email protected] to learn more. July 1, 2011 It’s a great season for gardening. Economic gardening that is. At MCC we have been sowing the seeds for growth over the last year with the Get Linked Expo and other initiatives. In July we’re rolling out a new “complementary planting” strategy — IDEA. Short for Innovate, Demonstrate, Educate, Accelerate, IDEA is a coordinated economic growth initiative from MCC, the Flagship Enterprise Center (FEC), and the Corporation for Economic Development (CED). Our organizations have been working together for more than a year to find creative ways to be more effective in our economic growth efforts. Using our combined expertise and resources, IDEA is a streamlined, efficient program for improving the economic outlook of businesses in Madison County, key to all three of our organizations’ missions. This initiative builds on the already successful Flagship Client Support Program that has assisted more than 80 companies with strategic planning, finance, business coaching, and other services. The program requires active participation by the companies in meeting agreed upon metrics and deliverables to ensure success. Charles Staley, President and CEO of FEC, says, “Since opening in 2005, the Flagship Client Support Program has been instrumental in providing resources and assistance to assure business growth. This is the kind of resourcing that IDEA will let us bring to the wider business community.” IDEA will include a countywide effort to help companies assess overall business health and opportunities and develop strategies for overcoming obstacles to growth. The program will also provide specific business consulting and a comprehensive education program, IDEA Academy. A key component of the initiative, the IDEA Academy is a year-long series of monthly workshops and roundtable discussions where participants will learn to handle a multitude of business issues, processes, and resources. Participants will complete business evaluations throughout the process to assess progress and will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the Academy. The IDEA initiative will be led by Madison County business expert DeWayne Landwehr, a long-time resident of the area with strong credentials in business growth and mentoring. DeWayne brings the experience of a long career in executive management with Guide Corp. He is FEC’s Executive Director and holds several advisory positions with regional business organizations. IDEA and the accompanying business retention and expansion efforts will be delivered through MCC with the support of the FEC and CED. The Madison County Community Foundation is also helping to kick-start IDEA with a generous grant. Executive Director Sally DeVoe sees the initiative as also supporting MCCF’s mission of individuals working together to enhance the quality of life in Madison County. Want to hear more? A big IDEA for growing business profits.

Hello! My name is DeWayne Landwehr. Since 2008 I have been the Executive Director of the Flagship Enterprise Center. In that role I have had the privilege of working with some of Madison County’s best and brightest entrepreneurs and

business owners.

It’s a great season for gardening. Economic gardening that is. At MCC we have been sowing the seeds for growth over the last year with the Get Linked

Expo and other initiatives.

This is the kind of resourcing that IDEA will let us bring to the wider business community.”

IDEA will include a countywide effort to help companies assess overall

business health and opportunities and develop strategies for overcoming obstacles to growth.
