“My Lord, my God!”
This phrase, which was
spoken famously by Saint
Thomas the Apostle, defined
the turning point of his faith. St.
Thomas was one of the
fishermen on the Lake of
Galilee whom our Lord called to
be His apostle. By nature
Thomas was slow to believe,
too apt to see difficulties and
tended to look at the dark side
of things. However he had the
most sympathetic, loving, and
courageous heart.
A f t e r C h r i s t ’ s
Resurrection, St. Thomas
refused to believe that Christ
had indeed Risen, but at the
actual sight of the pierced
hands and sides and through
the gentle rebuke of our
Saviour, his unbelief was gone
forever. In that triumphant
conversion, he joyously
uttered his faithful words “My
Lord and my God.”
As part of his Mission,
Saint Thomas travelled to
India converting and bringing
many souls closer to Christ
Jesus. He did his Mission
particularly in the coastal
regions of Malabar. On July
3rd of every year, we
celebrate the Feast of this
wonderful Saint.
As Malankarites,
members of the church that
sprouted up from India, we
are obligated to pay special
tribute to St. Thomas. He
worked unceasingly to build
the Kingdom of God among
people of India during which
St. Thomas was speared to
death, shredding his blood for
his Master.

A Be liever’s Greatest Challenge
is questioning their faith
or prayer life. Everybody
seems to be extremely
happy and friendly.
Our faith is put
to test when we live
among our immediate
ones, where we have
the liberty to be your
own self. Our family
members are the people
who are actually
exposed to the intimate
reflections of our faith.
It is through our
relationship with them
that we often fail to
express the different
fruits of the Holy Spirit,
as it is mentioned in
Galatians 5:22 “Love,
patience, joy, peace,
kindness, generosity,
faithfulness, gentleness
and self-control”.
After going
through rough moments
Are you a
believer? If somebody
asks you this question,
without a second thought
you may nod your head.
Introspect see whether
you are or not. If you are
able to surpass the
greatest challenge, a
believer may face in his
or her life, you are
correct, if not read the
rest.
A true believer in
Christ faces the biggest
challenge not anywhere
else but within his or her
own home environment.
That is where one is truly
tested in his or her faith.
In a community
environment it is
generally much easier for
an individual to hold a
bold face and walk
around, spreading the
fragrance of good
qualities because no one
in our daily life we often
f e e l f r u s t r a t e d ,
d i s a p p o i n t e d a n d
devastated, in which the
Holy Spirit that dwells
within us reminds us, that
our interactions may not
represent Christ but the
evil one. However this
reminder is not to put us
down, rather my dear
friends remember always,
any aches we feel when
we go wrong in our deeds,
thoughts and words are to
reveal to us clearly the
presences of God’s love in
us. We need to grow in
Christ. A tree sapling when
born is very weak and
fragile. Over time it is
exposed to strong winds,
heavy down pour and
merciless heat from the
sun. Throug h al l
adversities it does not get
uprooted or snap-off,
instead it gathers strength
POPE BENEDICT XVI'S GENERAL
AND MISSION INTENTIONS
JULY 2011 General Intention:
Justice in Electing those who Govern That in every nation of the world the election of officials may be carried out with justice, transparency and honesty, respecting the free decisions of citizens.
Missionary Intention:
An Urban Culture of Justice, Solidarity and Peace That Christians may strive to offer everywhere, but especially in great urban centers, an effective contribution to the promotion of education, justice, solidarity and peace.
and rigidly day by day
finally becomes a full
grown strong tree that
stands very firm and
unshaken. That is the way
we should grow in our
faith.
So let us not give
up our hope. As it is
written in Hebrews 10: 35-
36, 39 “Do not therefore
abandon that confidence
of yours: it brings a great
reward. For you need
endurance. Definitely our
father’s soul takes no
pleasure in anyone who
shrinks back as he knows
his righteous shall live by
faith”. Let us conclude
our battle taking delight in
the following Bible verses:
1 Peter 5:6, 1 Peter 2:19
and Jacob 1: 19.
Peace to all of you who
are in Christ.

Servant of God Archbishop Geevarghese Mar Ivanios was born on September 21st 1882 in Mavelikara. Raised in a Jacobite family He was ordained September 15th 1908. He taught History Politics and Economics at the University of
Serampoor, Bengal from 1913 to 1919.
Eventually, he resigned his post at the University and founded the Order of the Imitation of Christ, also known as Bethany Ashram, on August 15th 1919 at Mundanmala in Ranni-Perunadu. He was made Remban on January 28th 1925 at Tirumoolapuram Church and on May 1st he was
ordained Bishop at Niranam after the name Mar Ivanios. He founded a religious congregation for women known as the Sisters of the Imitation of Christ, also known as Bethany Madhom, on September 8th 1925 after he was ordained Bishop of Bethany. On February 13th 1929 he was raised as the Bethany M e t r o p o l i t a n . Metropolitan Mar Ivanios
had dedicated his life to revive the Malankara Church weakened by disputes and litigations. It was u nder t h i s circumstance that MA
Achen, who was just 30 years old succeeded to get established the throne of the Catholicos in Malankara in the year 1912. At a time when t h e M e t r a n k a k s h i (Bishop’s Party) and the Bavakakshi (Catholicos
’ Party) were engaged in court trials to secure t h e t i t l e - h o l d of Vattippanam (a fixed bank deposit) for favour of the Malankara Church, he toiled to bring peace and reconciliation in the Church. The Synod of the O r t h o d o x C h u r c h , convoked at Parumala in 1926 as a solution to find lasting peace in the Church proposed the
reunion of the Malankara Church with the Catholic Church and authorized Mar Ivanios to hold negotiations with Rome for the same. After a persevering endeavour for four years, Rome accepted the proposal of Mar Ivanios for reunion. However, as the verdict of t h e c i v i l c o u r t on Vattippanam came in f a v o u r o f t h e Metrankakshi , they
backed out of re-union endeavours. But Metropolitan Mar Ivanios a l o n g w i t h M a r Theophilos, Fr. John OIC, Deacon Seraphion and Mr. Kilileth Chacko came in

communion with the Catholic Church, making the profession of faith before Bishop Aloysius Maria Benzigor in the Aramana Chapel at Kollam on 20 September 1930.
Metropolitan Mar Ivanios visited Pope Pius XI, in 1932. The Malankara Cathol ic Hierarchy was erected with Trivandrum as Archieparchy, His Grace Mar Ivanios as its Metropolitan Archbishop and Tiruvalla as its suffragan Eparchy under Bishop Mar Theophilos on 11 June 1932. His Grace Mar Ivanios was enthroned Metropolitan
Archbishop of Trivandrum on 12 March 1933. In 1947, Archbishop Mar Ivanios visited America and Australia. This visit consolidated the life and progress of the Malankara Catholic Church by sharing the ecclesiological and theological positions of the Malankara Catholic Church and the Reunion Movement in the U n i v e r s a l C h u r c h .
Archbishop Mar Ivanios made a global influence through his ascetic life and endevours for the communion of Churches through the Re-union Movement which was essentially ecumenical
in nature. He was a great force in the society through his pioneering efforts in the fields of education and dedication to the cause of the poor. Within twenty two years of his life as Metropolitan
A r c h b i s h o p o f Trivandrum, he founded 78 primary schools 18 Upper Primary Schools, 15 High Schools, 2 Teacher Training Schools and 1 Arts college. As his health weakened, he received the anointing of the sick for prelates (Kanthīla Susrusha). He ordained Benedict Mar Gregorios as Auxiliary Bishop of
Trivandrum. He passed away to his eternal reward on 15 July 1953. Ever since his demise, pilgrims flock to his tomb at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Pattom, Trivndrum. Thousands join the A n n u a l Padayatra (pilgrimage on foot) to his tomb from 10 – 15 July every year to c e l e b r a t e h i s commemoration. He was
declared servant of God in the Church on 14 July 2007 by His Beatitude Moran Mor Baselios Cleemis Catholicos, the Major Archbishop of the Malankara Catholic Church. - Christopher T.
