They reside at 10203 Treasure Island Drive. The winners for May were Rolf and Tzipora Hilgendorf, who live at 10820 Enclave Vista. A $50.00 honorarium for each month’s winner is donated by Mary Rachkind. Winners are chosen from April though October of each year. Some of the criteria used to choose winners are the following: use of colorful plants, design and creativity, plant selection and placement, including use of native plants, grass/turf appearance, mulching, yard maintenance including weeding, and appropriate use of hardscape elements, such as stone, edging, paths, and walkways. Second Native Plant Garden

Usingagrantfromacommunitysupporter,TheRiverPlaceGardenClubcontractedJohnRearickofNature’sDesigntolandscapethesecondnativeplantgarden.ThenewgardensurroundsthebenchonBigViewjustpastChinaGardenwhichwaspaidforandinstalled

bytheHomeowners’Association.ThepreviousgardenclubprojectwastheparkbenchonRiverPlaceBlvdpaidforandinstalledbytheMuncipalUtilityDistrict. HOA and MUD installed the benches to take advantage of thebeautifulviewsthroughouttheneighborhoodandhavebeengenerousintheirsupportofthegardenclub’son-goingeffortstobeautifythesescenicareas. WearegratefultoBeckyDouglass,chairpersonfortheCommunityServiceCommitteeforhervisionandhardworktobringthisprojecttocompletion.AspecialthankyoutoArtJistelofMUD,andMillardMcBurneyofHOAforcoordinatingeffortsandsupportwiththeirorganizationsonthisproject. Lilies are probably the second mostprevalent plant toxicity in this area.SeveraltypesofLiliesaretoxic,withtheprincipal ones being Easter Lilies,TigerLilies, Stargazer Lilies, Peace Lilies andDayLilies. Liliesareextremelytoxictocats. Generally, toxicosisoccursonly in

Mobile Billboards to be Phased out over the Next two Years in AustinSubmitted by John Anderson

OnJune5,2008Austin’sCityCouncilvoted5-1onanewsignresolution that affected bothtraditional and mobile billboardadvertising inAustin. Whilethe vote effectively “banned”or “prohibits” mobile billboardadvertising in Austin City’sfull-purpose jurisdiction, it is

importanttonotethatonlyaparticularformofmobileadvertisingwillbebannedinAustinandexistingmobilebillboardcompanieswillhavetwofullyearstophaseouttheiroperationsand/ormodifytheirservicestobeincomplianceofthenewresolution.

The City's Definition of a mobile billboard is: "A sign installed ordisplayedonavehicleoperating in thepublic right-of-wayforthepurposeofadvertisingabusinessorentitythatisunrelatedtothe owner of the vehicle's primary business.The term does notincludeasignthatisdisplayedorinstalledon:a)anon-motorizedvehicle,includingbutnotlimitedtopedi-cabs;b)abusthatisusedprimarilyforthepurposeoftransportingmultiplepassengers;c)ataxicab,ifthesigncomplieswiththerequirementsoftheCityCodeSection13-2-388;ord)avehicleoperatedinthenormalcourseof

the vehicle's owner's business, if the sign contains advertising oridentifyinginformationdirectlyrelatedtothebusinessandisnotusedmerely,mainlyorprimarilytodisplayadvertisingthatisunrelatedtothebusiness.“

Theadoptedresolutionasitrelatestomobilebillboardrestriction/banreads:

Prohibit “A mobile billboard within the City’s full-purposejurisdiction, except that a mobile billboard operator with an office located within the boundaries of the CapitolArea MetropolitanPlanningOrganization(CAMPO)ontheeffectivedateofOrdinanceisNOTsubjecttotheprohibitionuntiltwoyearsaftertheeffectivedateoftheordinance.”

Further – it was made clear by both the Planning CommissionandCityCouncilthatAFTERthosetwoyearsthetworecognizedmobile billboard operators inAustin could modify their businessmodeltoinclude,saydeliveryorotherservicesthatwouldkeepthemCOMPLIANTunderthenewordinance.

Therearesomeremainingquestionsastothefairnessandpossiblylegalityofthistypeofbanthatarebeingfurtherexplored.

Repeat this processuntilyourdoghasbecomeaccustomedtothenoises.

If a dog is somewhat deaf,these sounds may also cause adversereactions.Yourvetalsocanhelpifyourpupneedsasedativetocalmhimduringanoisystormorexplosivecelebrationsofthe4thofJuly.AlsocheckwithyourvetaboutusingBachRescueRemedyifasedativeisnotappropriate.

Sinceyouarenotalwayshomewhenstorms hit, you will want to set up anareaforyourdoginwhichhefeelssafe.Crate trainingyourdogoffershim thatsafehaven.Heshouldbeabletoaccessthedesignatedrefugewheneveryouarenotathome.

Some dogs react to an approachingstorm long before it even reaches thearea. It is as though that the dog isreactingtothesoundofthunderfromthedistanced storm. Thedog,however, isactuallyreactingtothepresenceofstaticelectricityintheatmosphere(ashappenswiththedropofbarometricpressurepriortoastorm).

Thesedogsneedtothegrounded.Ananti-staticmatcanbeplacedinorunderthedog’skennel.Thekennelshouldbesituatedinawaythatthedogthinksithasenteredthehouse.Thekennelshouldbesoundproofedwithrubber-backedcarpetwithanextrapieceofcarpetacrosstheopening to create a flap that closes after thedogenters.

Sunday, June 8 was the official “Ice cream kickoff” for the 1st annual “LocksofLove”campaign,thebrainchildofSandraBennett.

Locks of Love is a not-for-profit organization that provides free hairpiecestochildren18yearsandyoungerintheUSandCanadasufferingfromanytypeofmedicalhairloss.

The exceptionallywell attended eventwashostedbyRick andKristiNordin,atCupsandConesinSteinerRanch,ChandiWagner,an executive with the Girl Scouts ofAmerica and other businesssponsors.

The69girls,womenand“Moms”whorecentlysigneduptoshedtheir locks for this worthy cause were treated to fancy “nails” &“toes”administeredbylocalGirlScouts,icecreamcones,fungamesandmore.Eachparticipantwasprovidedabeautifulheadbandtoembellishandweartoallthecomingevents.“Jewels”,puffypaintsandglueweresuppliedatthecrafttable.
