Fifteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Welcome Back to Celebration of the Eucharist Father Cavanaugh and Father Janusz were pleased to resume public celebration of the Mass and welcome parishioners back to church. Many things have changed but the important thing hasn’t changed at all’; that is, to be with Jesus, to invite Him into our lives, and to allow God’s Word to transform us and to re-ceive Our Lord in the Eucharist as we heed His com-mand, “Do this in memory of me”. Please be reminded of the following changes: Everyone is required to wear a face mask. Seating in the church is limited to 100 people ade-

quately spaced. The lower church (at Saint James) can accommodate overflow seating for approxi-mately 60 people if necessary. Certain pews have been closed to allow for social distancing. Families may sit together but unrelated people should sit six feet apart from one another. You may not be able to sit in your favorite seat.

Missalettes, bibles, and bulletins have been re-moved from the pews.

Music will be provided by our musicians; however, the congregation will not be singing.

The entrance, offertory and recessional processions have been omitted as well as exchanging a sign of peace.

The collection basket will not be passed. You are welcome to place your donation in the collection box as you enter or leave church. Alternatively, you are encouraged to use online giving or to mail a check to the rectory.

When receiving Holy Communion, approach the altar while maintaining a distance from one anoth-er. Do not come up side by side. Keep your mask on if you are receiving in the hand. Receive the Eu-charist, step to the side, drop your mask and re-ceive Our Lord. If you wish to receive on the tongue, you are asked to come at the end of the communion line.

Professional contractors have been hired to clean before each Mass. Parishioners are asked to depart shortly after Mass and arrive no more than twenty minutes before Mass to allow time for cleaning.

While the public celebration of Sunday Masses has re-sumed, dispensation from the Sunday obligation grant-ed by the Archbishop will extend through Sunday, September 6, 2020. Sunday Mass will continue to be broadcast on Youtube.

EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP - RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS

Focus on the Good When I was a child, my mother had a set of sculptures resembling three human heads. One head had hands over the ears, one had hands over the eyes, and one had hands over the mouth. Of course, they depicted the phrase, “Hear no evil; see no evil; speak no evil.” I have seen these images repeated many times since then, usually as the monkey heads from a Japanese proverb, which would have probably seemed a little less creepy to me when I was a small child. Apparently, there is no consensus about the full meaning or certain origin of these three im-ages nor the phrase. At the very least, it causes us to re-flect on the need to avoid evil and look for the good in things. As I have lived my life, I have come to believe there are more people who live their lives in a contrary manner to these images. It is not that they seek evil, but it is as if they “see no good, hear no good, and speak no good.” Gossiping is the way they pass the time, and they always seem to find the negative in people and situations. Being a good steward certainly means that we do not seek evil, but more than that, it means that we see the abundance of good things all around us. These gifts of God are big and little, profound and ordinary. By seeing the world in this way, we begin to change our personalities and our overall disposition. We always need to follow a new proverb: see all the good, hear all the good, and speak about the good. Amen. — Tracy Earl Welliver, MTS ©LPi
