Amen.Celebrant and PeopleAlmighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy Name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.Song of Praise – Canticle 20 Hymnal S2801 Glory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth.2 Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father,

we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory.3 Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God,4 you take away the sin of the world; have mercy on us;5 you are seated at the right hand of the Father; receive our prayer.6 For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord,7 you alone are the Most High,Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. The Collect of the Day BCP 230The Celebrant says to the people: The Lord be with you.People: And also with you Celebrant: Let us pray. Almighty God, you have built your Church upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief cornerstone: Grant us so to be joined together in unity of spirit by their teaching, that we may be made a holy temple acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. The Collect for Independence Day BCP 242Lord God Almighty, in whose Name the founders of this country won liberty for themselves and for us, and lit the torch of freedom for nations then unborn: Grant that we and all the people of this land may have grace to maintain our liberties in

righteousness and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.(The people may be seated.)A Reading From Wisdom of Solomon (1:13-15; 2:23-24)God did not make death,And he does not delight in the death of the living. For he created all things so that they might exist;the generative forces of the world are wholesome, and there is no destructive poison in them, and the dominion of Hades is not on earth. For righteousness is immortal.God created us for incorruption, and made us in the image of his own eternity, but through the devil’s envy death entered the world, and those who belong to his company experience it.Reader The Word of the Lord.People Thanks be to God. Psalm 30 BCP 621

ANTIPHON1 I will exalt you, O LORD, because you have lifted me up*

and have not let my enemies triumph over me.2 O LORD my God, I cried out to you,* and you restored me to

health.4

(Antiphon: choir and congregation, verses of the Psalm sung by the choir)

3 You brought me up, O LORD, from the dead;*you restored my life as I was going down to the grave.ANTIPHON

4 Sing to the LORD, you servants of his;*give thanks for the remembrance of his holiness.

5 For his wrath endures but the twinkling of an eye,*his favor for a lifetime.

6 Weeping may spend the night,* but joy comes in the morning.

7 While I felt secure, I said, "I shall never be disturbed.*You, LORD, with your favor, made me as strong as the mountains."

8 Then you hid your face,* and I was filled with fear.ANTIPHON

9 I cried to you, O LORD;* I pleaded with the Lord, saying,10 "What profit is there in my blood, if I go down to the Pit?*

will the dust praise you or declare your faithfulness?11 Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me;*

O LORD, be my helper."12 You have turned my wailing into dancing;*

you have put off my sack-cloth and clothed me with joy.13 Therefore my heart sings to you without ceasing;*

O LORD my God, I will give you thanks for ever.ANTIPHON

A Reading from 2 Corinthians (8:7-15)As you excel in everything-- in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in utmost eagerness, and in our love for you-- so we want you to excel also in this generous undertaking.I do not say this as a command, but I am testing the genuineness of your love against the earnestness of others. For you know the generous act of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty you might become rich. And in this matter I am giving

5

my advice: it is appropriate for you who began last year not only to do something but even to desire to do something-- now finish doing it, so that your eagerness may be matched by completing it according to your means. For if the eagerness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has-- not according to what one does not have. I do not mean that there should be relief for others and pressure on you, but it is a question of a fair balance between your present abundance and their need, so that their abundance may be for your need, in order that there may be a fair balance. As it is written,“The one who had much did not have too much, and the one who had little did not have too little.”Reader The Word of the Lord.People Thanks be to God.Hymn to Announce the Gospel Lord, whose love through humble service Hymnal 610The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ According to Mark (5:21-43)People: Glory to you, Lord Christ. When Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the other side, a great crowd gathered around him; and he was by the sea. Then one of the leaders of the synagogue named Jairus came and, when he saw him, fell at his feet and begged him repeatedly, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Come and lay your hands on her, so that she may be made well, and live.” So he went with him.And a large crowd followed him and pressed in on him. Now there was a woman who had been suffering from hemorrhages for twelve years. She had endured much under many physicians, and had spent all that she had; and she was no better, but rather grew worse. She had heard about Jesus, and came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, for she said, “If I but touch his clothes, I will be made well.” Immediately her hemorrhage stopped; and she felt in her body that she was

6

healed of her disease. Immediately aware that power had gone forth from him, Jesus turned about in the crowd and said, “Who touched my clothes?” And his disciples said to him, “You see the crowd pressing in on you; how can you say, ‘Who touched me?’” He looked all around to see who had done it. But the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came in fear and trembling, fell down before him, and told him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace, and be healed of your disease.”While he was still speaking, some people came from the leader’s house to say, “Your daughter is dead. Why trouble the teacher any further?” But overhearing what they said, Jesus said to the leader of the synagogue, “Do not fear, only believe.” He allowed no one to follow him except Peter, James, and John, the brother of James. When they came to the house of the leader of the synagogue, he saw a commotion, people weeping and wailing loudly. When he had entered, he said to them, “Why do you make a commotion and weep? The child is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. Then he put them all outside, and took the child’s father and mother and those who were with him, and went in where the child was. He took her by the hand and said to her, “Talitha cum,” which means, “Little girl, get up!” And immediately the girl got up and began to walk about (she was twelve years of age). At this they were overcome with amazement. He strictly ordered them that no one should know this, and told them to give her something to eat.Deacon: The Gospel of the Lord.People: Praise to you, Lord Christ. The Sermon The Rev. BCP 358We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

7

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. The Prayers of the People (Form VI) (standing) BCP 392In peace, we pray to you, Lord God.SilenceFor all people in their daily life and work; For our families, friends, and neighbors, and for those who are alone. For Donald, our president; Roy, our governor; this community, the nation, and the world; For all who work for justice, freedom, and peace. For the just and proper use of your creation; For the victims of hunger, fear, injustice, and oppression. For all who are in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble; For those who minister to the sick, the friendless, and the needy. For the peace and unity of the Church of God;For all who proclaim the Gospel, and all who seek the Truth.

The Great Thanksgiving Enriching Our Worship, Prayer 3

Celebrant The Lord be with you.People And also with you.Celebrant Lift up your hearts.People We lift them to the Lord.Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.People It is right to give our thanks and praise.Celebrant All thanks and praise are yours at all times and in all places, our true and loving God; through Jesus Christ, your eternal Word, the Wisdom from on high by whom you created all things. You laid the foundations of the world and enclosed the waters with dry land;

You brought forth all creatures of the earth and gave breath to humankind.

Wondrous are you, Holy One of Blessing, all you create is a sign of hope for our journey; And so as the morning stars sing your praises we join the heavenly beings and all creation as we shout with joy:Sanctus S130

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory.

Hosanna in the highest.Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.

Hosanna in the highest.(The people stand or kneel)The Celebrant continues

11

Glory and honor are yours, Creator of all, your Word has never been silent; you called a people to yourself, as a light to the nations, you delivered them from bondage and led them to a land of promise.Of your grace, you gave Jesus to be human, to share our life, to proclaim the coming of your holy reign and give himself for us, a fragrant offering.Through Jesus Christ our Redeemer, you have freed us from sin, brought us into your life, reconciled us to you, and restored us to the glory you intend for us.We thank you that on the night before he died for us Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, gave it to his friends and said:“Take, eat, this is my Body, broken for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.”After supper Jesus took the cup of wine, said the blessing, gave it to his friends and said:“Drink this, all of you: this cup is the new Covenant in my Blood, poured out for you and for all for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me.”And so, remembering all that was done for us: the cross, the tomb, the resurrection and ascension, longing for Christ’s coming in glory, and presenting to you these gifts your earth has formed and human hands have made, we acclaim you, O Christ:Celebrant and PeopleDying you destroyed our death; Rising you restored our life; Lord Christ, come in glory. The Celebrant continuesSend your Holy Spirit upon us and upon these gifts of bread and wine that they may be to us the Body and Blood of your Christ. Grant that we, burning with your Spirit’s power, may be a people of hope, justice and love. Giver of Life, draw us together in the Body of Christ, and in the fullness of time

12

gather us with all your people into the joy of our true eternal home.Through Christ and with Christ and in Christ, by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, we worship you our God and Creator in voices of unending praise.Celebrant and PeopleBlessed are you now and for ever. All are welcome to receive Holy Communion at the altar. For the bread, place one hand over the other and hold them up chest high so the minister can easily place the bread on the palm of your hand. You may then consume the bread or hold it to dip (intinct) into the wine and then place it in your mouth. If you wish to receive the chalice, please guide it to your lips. If you do not wish to receive the wine, indicate by crossing your arms. After you have received the bread and the wine, it is appropriate to say “AMEN.” Gluten free communion bread is available.
