  • KOHLERVILLAGER.COM JULY 1, 2015 = KOHLER VILLAGER 3

Sheboygan, WI June 22, 2015 A consistent theme among em-ployers today is the need to findand retain quality employees. Andwhile no company is immune tothose challenges, Tender HeartsSenior Care learned that their ef-forts are creating positive results.

In the 2015 Private Duty Bench-marking Study, Tender Heartsfound they had a significantlylower turnover compared with the88% for the Great Lakes regionand 62% study wide. The studyhas been conducted annually since2009 by Home Care Pulse and en-dorsed by the Home Care Associ-ation of America. The 2015research surveyed 701 home careservice providers throughoutNorth America. In addition to em-ployment issues, the study ad-dresses finance, sales, marketing, and operations to allow compari-son to industry peers.

Ongoing education and supporthave assisted in employmentlongevity for Tender Hearts. Oftheir entire team, 61% have pro-vided over 10,000 hours of serviceper caregiver and 91% of the teamhas over 2,300 care hours per care-

giver. Typical for the home careindustry, employers offer onlinetraining with course material ac-cessed by caregivers when re-quired by the agency. TenderHearts takes a different approach. They use an on-premise classroomallowing for customization andflexibility to adapt to the needs oftheir caregivers and clients. Theirin-person training assures eachmember of the care team experi-ences optimal education and sup-port to encourage ongoing growth.

Our industry requires peoplewith a passion for care. Combinethat with the ability to deliver serv-ices for the unique needs of eachclient and you quickly realize thatfinding, and as importantly retain-ing, caregivers is crucial, saysTodd Witting, co-owner of TenderHearts Senior Care. To that end,we created Essential Functions As-sessments that each caregivercompletes to ensure they have theskills necessary to serve the cus-tom needs of the clients they willbe aiding. This means the care-giver is properly trained and alsohelps forge long-term relationshipswith those in our care.

75% of the Tender Hearts teamhas been with them for two ormore years and 50% for four ormore years. Those retention statsbecome even more impressiveknowing that Tender Hearts pro-vides services to more than doublethe clients than other agenciestheir size in the Great Lakes regiondo.

The final point of difference thatsupports employee retention forTender Hearts is they have 4.5 sup-port staff for the care team com-pared with 2.5 support staffstudy-wide in agencies in theirrevenue bracket.

Tender Hearts Senior Carebegan in 2006 when founderDawn Wittig recognized a need toprovide personalized services toelderly, physically or mentally dis-abled people who need more carethan family or friends can provide. They serve clients throughout She-boygan County with supportive, personal, property, skilled serv-ices; long-term care planning; andrespite. For more informationabout Tender Hearts and their serv-ices, call 920-459-0791 or visitwww.tenderheartsseniorcare.net

Industry survey reveals TenderHearts Senior Care successNorth American annual study proves staff turnover ratelower than average which confirms retention efforts arepaying off

Kohler-Andrae State Park one ofmost popularBy Kevin Struck

Based on a recent report,Kohler-Andrae State Park had anestimated 414,830 visitors in 2010,which placed it 6th among Wis-consins 45 state parks. These vis-itors spent a total of $19,893,383during their visit or en route. Thereport, Economic Impacts of theWisconsin State Park System, waspublished by the Wisconsin De-partment of Natural Resources inNovember, 2013. The nearly $20million in visitor expendituresranked Kohler-Andrae 9th overall.

(Devils Lake was 1st in both cat-egories.)

Positive opinions about our localState Park are easy to find. Ienjoy visiting Kohler-Andrae forso many reasons, from taking mybicycle out for a ride or going fora walk, visiting friends at thecampsites, or even hanging outdown by the lakeshore with thefamily, said Sheboygan CountyAssociate Planner, Emily Vetting.

I really enjoy having one of thebest state parks in Wisconsin just afew miles away. Its a beautiful

park for biking, hiking, walking onthe beach or just relaxing! saidSheboygan resident StevenHeinen.

Indeed, many of Kohler-An-draes biggest fans are from rela-tively close by. Approximately80% of the parks visitors werefrom an 8-county southeastern re-gion that included Sheboygan,Ozaukee, Washington, Waukesha,Milwaukee, Racine, Kenosha, andWalworth. For comparison, only55% of visitors to all Wisconsinstate parks came from a particular

parks region. The report also summarized vis-

itor expenditures by the type ofstate facility, with visitors spend-ing an estimated $90 per personper day at State Trails, $67 at StateRec Areas, and $50 at State Parks. Most of the additional spending atState Trail sites was due to dollarsallocated for accommodations andrestaurants/bars by snowmobilersand ATV riders, which was morethan double what was spent byState Park visitors for the sameitems.

Forensic performancesare judged on composure and the ability to connectwith the audience. For all students, there is ahealthy amount of anxiety and Matt and Ian over-came the unique adversities associated with AutismSpectrum Disorder. The difference was made by theextraordinary efforts of the faculty of the special ed-ucation department: Ms. Lori Schmid for tirelesspracticing and traveling to the competition and sup-port throughout the process, Mrs. Kim Wilkens andMs. Alree Thee for their supportive coaching. A summerand fall fundraising drive for lights on the soccerfield is ahead.

BUDGETAn unprecedented groundswell in oppositionto the proposed cuts to the education budget hasspread across the state. Board resolutions, superin-tendent and teacher letters to legislators and editori-als, parent groups testimonials at public hearings,

and alliances with business partners is making astatement that Wisconsin public schools need therestoration of 127M in proposed cuts to the bien-nium budget. Restoration of the cuts would putschools back to zero rather over negative. As StateSuperintendent Evers states, Zero is not a win.The states budget process will conclude in the nextweeks. I applaud and thank everyone who hastaken interest and action in support of funding forquality public education in our community.

PRINCIPAL SEARCH UPDATEI wish to thank the board, faculty, and families fortheir time and commitment to the input sessions forprincipals for our three schools. It is crystal clearwe are a community deeply invested in our schools. We share excitement over finding the best to leadour schools.

    Principals Report (Lori Neurohr)

Elementary NewsThanks to the generosity of the Kohler School Foun-dation, our fourth grade students recently went on afield trip to JA Biztown. JA BizTown gives thousandsof students in grades four through six the opportu-nity to run banks, manage restaurants, read utilitymeters, use debit cards, and even vote. It combinesin-class learning with a daylong visit to theirfacility. It is a fully interactive, true-to-life simula-tion where students learn the fundamental relation-ship between academics and life beyondschool. Their interactive curriculum engages andexcites students, leading to stronger critical-thinkingand decision-making skills and more confidence.

Middle School NewsThe 8th grade students attended Junior Achieve-ments Finance Park on Friday, April 24th. Over thepast month, advisors have been teaching the kidsthe JA Curriculum to prepare them for their experi-ence on this day. The experience took place from9am - 1:30pm.

The eighth graders got to see what financial deci-sions parents need to make on a weekly basis. Theadvisors heard many comments from studentsthroughout the day about their excitement and whatthey learned. Many of them were in aww aboutbudgeting their money and realizing that the dollardoes not go very far. Each student was given a situ-ation. For example, married, 2 children, credit scoreof 500, income of $25000 per year, and had to maketheir purchasing decisions based on their scenarioin the following areas: home, vehicle, cell phoneplan for their family, eating out, clothing purchases, and many more. They even had to make credit cardpayments in addition to paying utilities! Their goalwas to have a balance of $0 at the end. This in-cluded putting money into savings and giving tocharities, if they could afford it.

JA does a great job making the experience as realis-tic as possible. Their curriculum prepared the stu-dents to make the best educated decisions based ontheir specific financial situation. Thank you to theKohler Foundation for funding this worthwhile fieldtrip for our students.

163 elementary students and 184 middle schoolstudents completed their Badger testing over thelast several weeks. I want to acknowledge the hardwork of the students, the teachers who proctored thetests, Ryan Miller for his outstanding technical sup-port and Karen Ingels for diligence in making sureeverything ran smoothly.

The bicycle helmets were provided at a dis-count and fitted by Aurora Memorial Medical Cen-ter. The chips were donated by Frito Lay ofOostburg and the soda was donated by LakesidePepsi out of Sheboygan Falls. We all look forwardto doing it again next year.
